After an appearance by our celebrity President earlier today and intense lobbying efforts by his admininstration, the House will vote later today on the mammoth health care “reform” bill that has become the centerpiece of President Obama’s first year agenda. Do Democrats have the votes? Maybe, but on the Republican side of things the GOP is telling MSM outlets that not a single one of the 177 Republicans in the House will vote for this pro-abortion, pro-big government, pro-illegal immigrant coverage, anti-patient “health care” bill. Bravo. Up to 40 House Dems can “defect” from this bill without it hurting PelosiCo’s efforts in getting it passed. Here’s a list of Democrats who are on the fence. USA Today’s On Politics blog has more on the fencesitters, some of whom are first termers who represent districts McCain won last year.
Michelle Malkin is liveblogging the latest developments taking place during this rare Saturday session. You can watch the goings on as they take place here.
The vote is scheduled to take place around 6 tonight Eastern time. Stay tuned …
Update 1 – 6:22 PM: Per Jake Tapper, the vote is now supposed to take place sometime around 9:30 ET.
Update 2 – 11:11 PM: The House has just passed their version of “health care reform” with 220 votes to 215. 39 Democrats voted against the bill, while 1 Republican voted for it (Joseph Cao – LA). Great – now our dishonest President can claim the House version was “bipartisan.”
Like everything else Democrat, this bill is misleading from the get-go. There is nothing, absolutely NOTHING, in this bill that reforms health care costs, except that it raises administrative costs because the guvmint will set up another oppressive bungling bureaucracy and increase costs to taxpayers at a rate of approximately $1.35 per dollar of health bureaucracy cost to pay for more goodies for themselves and their lobbyist friends.
Yeah, sure sounds like congress and the president really have the interests of the American taxpayers in the center of their hopes, change and intentions…
Thanks for the link to Malkin’s periodic updates. Yikes, I hope this fails to pass today. There’s just so much misinformation on health care costs; I just looked at a report provided to Ezra Klein at WashPo by the CEO of Kaiser, and the costs are way overstated. My family has had the misfortune of actually having some of the procedures they compare, and the actual cost of cat scans and MRIs is closer to Canada’s stated costs than the inflated costs in Kaiser’s report. Congress and the health insurers are lying to us, and will get compulsory health insurance as a result. Yet another example of trading freedom for “security”, yet not being more secure. (I blogged about my actual health care costs and the report at my blog.
Hey Blue Dogs… are you seriously willing to end your political career for Nancy Pelosi?
WHY?
What’s in it for you… and your constituents? Hard to imagine why anyone would allow themselves to be hectored into taking-one-for-the-team and incurring the wrath of the nation… when this arrogant socialist twit wouldn’t spit on you if your hair was on fire.
NOW is the time to KILL this pig- there’s no future in backing Obama’s radical plans anymore.
Vote for this highly unpopular bill at your peril… as SanFranNan will leave you twisting-in-the-wind next fall, of that you can be sure.
My Congressman is voting FOR this bill.
His spokesperson says there has been a “miscommunication” – another way of saying don’t believe what you hear, trying to say this isn’t in there – but could NOT DENY that that section IS in the bill that my craven Congressman, Mike Thompson (D-CA) will vote for ANYWAY.
He was going to vote for it in the VERY BEGINNING, when they were pushing to vote it through before the Recess, before the Tea Parties, before anyone could read it, before there could be any debate – he was going to vote for it without knowing what was in it. Which tells you it doesn’t matter what is in it, they are going to vote for it no matter what. They have their marching orders, from the Party, not the People.
Find out where yours stands – and CALL THEM TODAY ANYWAY – even if they are supporting it – they will say they got XYZ# of calls in favor, make sure they have MORE against. EMAIL them, that way there is also a record.
Then, when they vote for it anyway, dedicate yourself to helping replace them next election.
Anyone who will vote for a bill they haven’t read has to be removed from office.
CALL and EMAIL NOW.

Rose,
“Bela Pelosi” has yet to figure out that she can’t put everybody in jail nor can she fine them all. Especially when a lot of them have firearms at home and know how to use them. Furthermore, the last time I checked, political prisoners don’t pay taxes.
If this ObamaCrap actually gets signed into law, look for immediate legal challenges and massive civil disobedience–even civil unrest–on a scale not seen since the Vietnam War. Do you think tens of millions of Americans are going to willingly subsidize the murder of unborn children not to mention healthcare for illegal aliens?
I didn’t think so either.
The government makes sure when you buy something labeled as “juice” it actually has some “juice” in it.
When you buy “chicken noodle soup” they actually make sure there is a minimum amount of “chicken” in the soup.
It’s called “truth in packaging.”
Shouldn’t Congress and the president be subject to the same “truth in packaging”? Starting with what the bill actually is and how much it costs, and then, because less than 1/2 of one percent of the Republicans voted for the obamanation, not call it “bipartisan”!
And will the jackasses ever get around to controlling health care costs, other than cutting back services (especially to the elderly)? Laying costs for Medicare and Medicaid off onto the states in an unfunded mandate is not “controlling costs”. My sons (only one of which ever went to college) have figured that out, and even a Columbia School of Journalism grad should be able to figure THAT one out.
This is so depressing. I should have waited until after church tomorrow to check the news. What have they done?!
What have they done? Succeeded in a huge leap toward Socializing the nation. Another huge tax-and-spend debaucle which will further take the earnings from working Americans and reward it to the irresponsible, illegal, the so-called ‘downtrodden’ and ‘oppressed’ of society who believe they deserve a free ride at the taxpayers’ collective expense. Bravo, Dem’s–another step toward ruining a once-great nation. Bask in your success. Well earned. Just don’t blame the republicans when the young, idealistic people and old Dem’s who would literally vote for a jackass if he were running under the Dem label wake up to the fact they’ve been royally shafted. Some people have to hit the windshield in a full-frontal crash before they finally see the light.
Interesting point made this morning by a Sunday School teacher was that this bill could be considered proof that God is testing this country….economically.
If the towering mountain of debt does not sink us, it can only be by God’s will, not by anything these bozos have devised!
…a pox on them all!
Where’s the RINO list posted?….and when are they scheduled for a hearing?….and where’s the hanging going to take place?
