AP assigns 11 “factcheckers” to Sarah Palin’s book – and they still get it wrong

Priceless!!

Mark Steyn, in a must-read, laughingly calls them the “Rogue Eleven”:

AP writers Matt Apuzzo, Sharon Theimer, Tom Raum, Rita Beamish, Beth Fouhy, H. Josef Hebert, Justin D. Pritchard, Garance Burke, Dan Joling and Lewis Shaine contributed to this report.

Wow. That’s ten “AP writers” plus Calvin Woodward, the AP writer whose twinkling pen honed the above contributions into the turgid sludge of the actual report. That’s 11 writers for a 695-word report. What on? Obamacare? The Iranian nuke program? The upcoming trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed?

No, the Associated Press assigned 11 writers to “fact-check” Sarah Palin’s new book, and in return the 11 fact-checkers triumphantly unearthed six errors. That’s 1.8333333 writers for each error. What earth-shattering misstatements did they uncover for this impressive investment? Stand well back:

Read it all :)

Interesting, especially considering the likelihood that the AP is going to make cutbacks in their staff at the end of the year. Guess they figured they would assign 11 of their reporters to this “story” while they still could.

And speaking of Palin “factcheckers,” some former McCain campaign senior aides are lining up to “dispute” Palin’s claims in Going Rogue. It’s face-saving time …

Laughing all the way to the bank.

Seriously, are there no grownups left? The same AP who run to press seemingly every time a certain future Playgirl centerfold utters some inane criticism of his formerly future mother-in-law? Where’s the Levi fact check AP? Juveniles, the lot of them.

As for former McCain staffers, there’s a word that so aptly describes them no further elucidation need be made,…LOSERS!

Steyn is the greatest transplant to our shores in recent memory. Always an enjoyable read!

    A.Stephens, make that SORE losers.

What a waste of research time…however, these are desperate days for the liberal press. They don’t have the readership.

What it does tell you is that they are really afraid of Sarah Palin. Is this an irrational fear? Are they being a bit paranoid? What is it that Sarah projects that makes them so tireless in their efforts to disparage her reputation?

I believe it’s the truth….and she’s a rank outsider. She’s contended with corruption and won in her state and they are afraid that if she were to win a national race that the spotlight would be turned on all their corrupt friends in Washington….so maybe the need to be scared, be very, very scared AP.

Wait until a certain former NC congressman and lawyer says that he’s “channeled” Trig, and that Trig was begging for an abortion from the womb but Sarah selfishly ignored his pleas.

Oh, wait, he wouldn’t do that – there’s no millions of dollars in it.

  6. Doug in San Diego says:

Some of this “Fact Checking” is ludicrous. For instance, the rack rate at the Essex House tonight, is $379.00. Plus, it was just remodeled, and was surely cheaper then, at a convention rate.

Second, she was in NYC for the 2007 Republican Governor’s Association conference. I don’t know about you, but if I go to a convention or conference, If at all possible, I stay at the HQ hotel, because the whole point of going is to interact and schmooze with other participants.

All of this is awfully thin gruel.

  7. Sean says:

Did they “factcheck” Hillary Clinton’s book in which she claimed that she was named after the climber Edmund Hillary? I don’t think so. It’s amazing how badly the left wants to besmirch Sarah Palin.

  8. nina says:

McCain’s staffers ran the worst campaign ever. They have no credits do be discrediting anyone.

  9. Lorica says:

I really do have to agree that the McCain Staffers are idiotic losers that somehow can’t believe that the us serfs believe Sarah Palin over them. Hmmmmm makes ya wonder

I also have to agree with Kate. I do believe that these guys are very afraid that when she gets elected, that she is going to put “the Republican’s house” in order. Which should have been done long before now.

Ohhh and lastly, to that BO B**t Boy David Brooks. No David the real joke is you. I have never in all my days seen such stupidity like that which has come out of your mouth as I did today on This Week. Your stupidity is unequaled in all the world, and I seriously think you need to drop the charade that you are a Republican. – Lorica

As a past Alaskan and knowing that Sarah is an amazing leader, it truly was the liberal media with the AP being in charge of creating the drama they did. It is priceless that it is the AP that is going rogue and that the American people know are given the truth of the fact that the Democrats and liberal media are TERRIFIED of her. Good for her. She is a force to be reckoned with and is a great strategist and she just pulled the best victory in a long time!!!:d

  11. A.Men says:

McCain is a loser. I will contribute to the Conservative Repub. running for McCain’s seat at election time.

  12. Jason says:

So let me see if I understand you. The AP fact checks someone who is considered by many within a political organization as a potential candidate for 2012 to make sure they have their facts about things straight and you laugh? It’s called transpearency. It’s the way you keep people honest. This liberal says fact check Obama’s “Audacity of Hope”. For that matter, fact check every single politician for anything political said.

Truth is, people go to news organizations that reinforce their particular views. You don’t find many registered democrats watching fox news, and few registered republicans reading the new york times except to rant about in their little blogs. If you are a liberal and cannot bring yourself to say Clinton make a huge mistake in his personal life you are little more than a zombie. If you are republican and do not believe Rush makes racially charged statements you are a zombie as well.

Extremism on both sides of the isle is what needs to go. The right way forward is not to the left nor the right, it’s down the middle.

EDIT: I see this site moderates comments… if it does not show up I will assume it is really censorship.

NOTE: Please read the site policy on new commenters. In addition to what is already there, newbie commenters are kept on moderation for at least a week so I can make sure they are not here to start flame wars. Also, please don’t assume that I just “censor” people – especially liberals – on whim. Why don’t you get to know me and this site before making such assumptions? –ST

  13. Jason says:

Well my dear ST… Who says I haven’t looked in here in depth?

I have never said you censor anything. I did say if it does not show up I will assume censorship. I know what I wrote was at least halfway well written and biased neither one way or the other. As a result, if my comment were to not be approved, it would count in my eyes as censorship. The wonderful thing about censorship, is the censor effectively wipes away any evidence of their act. Censors also tend to target people who are more towards the center, based on the fact they prefer their opponents to be viewed as extremists to better galvanize people to their particular point of view.

Since you effectively post your positions for people to become familiar with, why not you become more familiar with mine before making an assumption about my thoughts? I’m always open for a healthy discussion and while I will defend my beliefs and positions, I do not ever assume I am 100% correct on them. Cheers! – JR

  14. Kate says:

Well, Jason, unlike you, most of us have jobs….that keep us from posting willy nilly….you seem to think you hold the cards of truth….fact checking is not truth telling. It’s just the formulation of spin to credit/discredit a point of view.

When a person writes a personal narrative, it is just that, a personal point of view. If you agree with it fine, if not, you should allow the person to have their opinion and let it go. But, the fact of the situation here is that the AP decided that they HAD to fact check Sarah Palin’s book….when did they fact check Al Gore’s flight of fantasy? How many people do they allot to scrutinizing the bills in congress that do have an affect on the population as a whole, and not just a group of people who might like to read an insider story of a campaign or personal biopgraphy? Doesn’t that strike you as just a bit odd?

If not, then, in all fairness ask the AP how many people they assign to any book that comes out….maybe you will see why we are at least a bit incredulous about their motivation.

And Sister runs a fine site here, many are welcome, even the occasional troll (who usually don’t stay and play long).
