Tuesday Open Thread

Sorry for the light blogging the last couple of days – I’ve been off and trying to take care of some year-end stuff, take down Christmas decorations, put my house back together, squeezing in doctor appts, etc.

I’ll check back in when I can later this evening.

Update – 8:21 PM: Forgot to mention I posted a new post up at Velvet Lair yesterday on the whole “Peyton Manning was benched” debate.

We usually wait until New Year’s Day to take down the Christmas stuff. Seems fitting, for some reason.

This has been on the web for a month or so, but I just found it today. Quite an eye-opener. Doug Ross presents a historical case study of exactly how government spending run wild can completely and permanently ruin a nation’s economy.

For example, one step is this:

the size of government bureaucracies exploded through massive programs of social spending and by encouraging the growth of labor unions.

Sound familiar?

Give this one a good read and you’ll have an idea where we’re headed if the leftists are not stoppped.

The Press (especially MSNBC), the Progressive blogs and the DC political consultant class have made Sarah Palin the “Ultimate Outsider”. The Democratic minions in Alaska even got her to resign as Governor, further making her an outsider.

Now, even the Left sees her as a possible alternative …

Like any good progressive, I’ve gone from admiration to hope to disappointment to anger when it comes to this president. Now I’m fast getting to rage.

How much rage? I find myself thinking that the thing I want most from the 2010 elections is for his party to get absolutely clobbered, even if that means a repeat of 1994. And that what I most want from 2012 is for him to be utterly humiliated, even if that means President Palin at the helm. That much rage.

A good progressive…isn’t that an oxymoron?

So this guy is that mad…at Obama? at Democrats? what the hey?

He sees Palin as some weird form of revenge…or he’s admitting that there are real problems and we need someone who has cleaned up the messes of Alaska and has the gumption to take on the dirty games in Washington. This would be considered a major leap of faith for a person who concedes they are progressive.

I am perhaps encouraged….but, will not hold my breath.
