The rise of the strong Republican Governor

Not saying we haven’t had strong GOP Governors before, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen such strong, bold, outspoken state CEOs – governing at the same time – who look and act more like national leaders than the President of the United States.

A developing (and certainly most welcomed) trend? A sign of things to come? I hope so.

Can you think of any others to add to this list? These three were the first ones who came to mind. I’m sure there are others.

John Hoeven of North Dakota comes to mind, though he hasn’t got the national attention the others have because of the crises facing their states. Same too with Tim Pawlenty, who’s done an excellent job while saddled with a DFL legislature, though he gets more attention because of his presidential aspirations.

I wonder if the rise of the strong Republican governor will also herald the reinvigoration of the 10th amendment?

I think you should expand this concept from Strong Republican governors to strong Republicans. There are some Congressional Republicans who are also taking the heat in order to do the right thing. Michele Bachmann readily comes to mind. Also let us not forget the prototype of Strong Republicans, Sarah Palin. She threw her party under the bus because it was the right thing to do for the people.

In Virginia, Governor Bob McDonnell, is proving to be a voice for Conservatives along with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Keep your eyes on Virginia.
