President Obama endorses Ground Zero mosque – on “freedom of religion” grounds

Posted by: ST on August 13, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Awesome. He doesn’t mind wee weeing on National Prayer Day, but a mosque deliberately being built near the sacred site of thousands were killed in blatant acts of naked terrorism by Islamofascists is an ‘core to the values of America.’

Now, excuse me while I throw up a little in my mouth.

Phineas butts in: There’s so much that can be said about this (and I probably will, tomorrow), but I’ll leave you with this question: Just how many Democratic candidates around the country are right now tearing their hair out in frustration, knowing that, as sure as the sun rises in the East, they are going to be asked “Do you agree with Obama about the Ground Zero mosque” from now until Election Day? I almost –almost– feel sorry for them.

    1. This is absolutely incredible. Obama can’t be this ignorant about the realities of Islam. This is deliberate. Between this and his stance on immigration, is the president trying to start a civil war? Very worrisome. He is taking the side of radical Islam against America.

    2. Carlos says:

Well, if he’d gone to a Christian Church (not the sect but the general Church) for twenty years instead of to Pastor Wright’s anti-American hate-fest, he may have learned something about love, charity and love of country.

As it is, he was taught to hate his adopted country and to be incredibly deferential to anything Islam. That was his early upbringing and his early schooling, and his college education.

With that background, how else is he supposed to act?

    3. mike191 says:

This is the end of the Democractic stranglehold of Congress. The voters in 2010 will be galvinized by the President44’s endorsement of a ground zero Mosque.Subsequent losers:David Brooks, Bloomberg, and Andrew Cuomo.

    4. Kate says:

Once again, this man is incredibly TONE DEAF. This is not a question of what is popular with the people, it is what is right for this country. His lack of concern for what the majority of people know is their hearts is wrong is troubling.

    5. PE says:

Obama is a source of ceasless outrage; kind of like terror based entertainment, except it’s not fun. Now I’m worried about tomorrow, and his next atrocity du jour. Where are the Harry Truman’s of yesteryear?

    6. Dana says:

The amazing thing is that he could have simply avoided the subject altogether; why open his big mouth on this?

    7. Moira says:

I doubt that Obama even realizes what he has done. By distorting the issue and making it about “freedom of religion” rather than the insensitivity and triumphalism of the backers of Cordoba House he has now implied that all of us who oppose the building of a massive Muslim cultural center at Ground Zero are religious bigots who are seeking to prevent them from practicing their religion. So it’s the usual argument from the Left: if you oppose us than you are a RACIST or a BIGOT! So typical…

BO is not tone deaf he is a muslim. He is not ignorant of the realities of islam he supports them. He loves the call to prayer and to be a student in Indonesia you have to be a citizen and a muslim. Wake up people!!

    9. Lorica says:

I have to agree with Nina. Look at his treatment of Israel. From what I have heard BB Netanyahu has said that Israel stands alone in the world, except the support of the Christian Right in this country.

This man is not ignorant or tone deaf, he is very aware of what he is doing, and the benefit he provides to a people who wish to claim conquered ground in this country.

Personally, it is my hope that this place is firebombed so many times, while it is being built, that they cannot find anyone to insure it’s construction, putting and end to the whole ordeal. – Lorica

    10. Carlos says:

I, for one, Moira, am seeking to prevent the muslims from practicing their “religion” here in the United States, because the practice of their “religion” involves removing the choice of me practicing MY religion.

And because of the way my priorities for my life are structured, that is far more important to me than allowing religious “freedom.”

    11. Joseph Brown says:

And we just stand here playing switch finger(ask a military man)letting our Muslim president do with our country as he pleases.

    12. Scansy says:

I am involved in the construction industry as an engineer and I have known very many union workers – carpenters, iron workers, steamfitters, plumbers, electricians, etc. over the past 15 years. Most of these union workers are staunch supporters of the USA. I would be surprised if they could find union workers in NYC to build that mosque. Would they bring non-union labor from outside NYC? That part of this will be interesting.

    13. your mama says:

Why does it seem to me Obama always sides with the folks going against the wishes of the American people?

    14. Linda Shrager says:

What’s going on in Washington is incredulous. When are we Americans going to take America back and quit handing all that has been fought for to a Muslim? bin Laden and his followers have to be sitting in their easy chairs delighting with glee and laughing their heads off at us. How, oh how, did we get to the point where our leader cares more about HIS agenda than America’s? People….you had better wake up and face where this country is headed and speak up or pretty soon we won’t need to worry about voting for who will be our next president. That freedom will be gone.

    15. John Bibb says:

I’ll believe that Comrade Obama (PBUH) supports religious freedom as soon as I hear him calling for Saudi Arabia to allow building a Christian Church in their benighted 6th century kingdom.
The American People did not fight a revolution, a civil war, and two world wars to let Sharia Law take away freedom and rights from our people.
But our Messiah sees history from a different standpoint. His rights are his–and ours are “negotiable”.

    16. Steve Skubinna says:

A liberal is a person so open minded he won’t even take his own side in an argument.

In Obama’s case, he won’t take the side of his own nation – but this surprises who, exactly? But you’d think he could at least muster enough spunk to stand up for Western Civilization. After all, even the French are part of Western Civ.

    17. Sefton says:

Everything about this man wreaks of lies and calculated deception.
How is it that he supports the building of this community center as a means to uphold the “right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances”, but recently called the building of new apartments by the Israelis in eastern Jerusalem an issue that “embitters the Palestinians in a way that could end up being very dangerous.”?
So it’s a volatile issue that could inflame and embitter on one hand (as if that wasn’t already an historical fact no matter what’s at stake in the region), and the other is an argument of rights over the “embitterment” of local New Yorkers, families of the victims, and (again) the American majority – not to mention just plain common sense.
As most have said, and I agree, this administration has an agenda and every day that passes it becomes more clear what that is. As someone else mentioned, I’m actually wondering if Obama wants to invoke a civil war. Because, to that end, he sure likes to stoke the fires for it.

    18. Jo says:

It is becoming increasingly clear that he is trying to destroy the nation as it once was. Divide and conquer.

    19. Rene Lemke says:

What has made us the greatest country in the world is the freedom speech and religion. What if a priest bombed a building, would we not allow a Catholic church to be built in that area? I do not think so. Look at the rest of the world and how religion has caused so much warfare pain and suffering. Do we want this in the United States? We cannot comprise our laws love and beliefs of this country.

    20. Carlos says:

We are not relinquishing the freedom to worship as we wish, Rene. That’s a straw-man argument.

What we are screaming at the political aparatchik is that the only reason the mosque is being proposed at that particular spot is to make it a symbol of victory to every muslim in the world, and quite frankly, that just flat out pi**e* off a lot of people.

And if you’re dumb enough or thick enough or unaware of the real world enough not to be able to see that, then you have no place at the discussion.

In other words, sir, we have no desire to see them celebrate what they perceive as victory one more time.

    21. jason says:

Obama doesn’t have the first idea about what religious freedom means. Take Islam for example. The entire religion, and culture that surrounds it is oppressive and bigoted – to women, to anyone of another religious belief, to anyone who doesn’t follow its tenets. And this a**wipe “president” of ours insists on defending an imam who has excoriated America and American people – similar to the Irreverend Wright.

    22. Zippy says:

@ Steve ..I’m stealing that quote. It’s classic!
