Via the Washington Whispers blog at US News:
One of Washington’s principal supporters of the Tea Party movement, former GOP Majority Leader Dick Armey’s FreedomWorks, has been receiving death threats and profanity-laced phone calls as it gets involved in the fall elections. The number and intensity have reached such heights that the organization is leaving its downtown location near the FBI and moving to a high-security building near the U.S. Capitol.
“FreedomWorks and Dick Armey receive dozens of threatening and harassing calls and E-mails each day. Many imply violence and use of weapons,” spokesman Adam Brandon tells Whispers. “As we get closer to the election we expect the harassment to increase.”
[...]
FreedomWorks provided some of the recordings of the threatening calls to Whispers and they include physical threats and profanity aimed at the group, Tea Party spokesmen and even conservative talkers. “You guys better watch it,” says one caller. “Now, we are going to destroy and obliterate Rush [Limbaugh] and Sean Hannity,” said another. “Those two guys are dead.”
This is despicable, of course, and I hope when Freedom Works moves to its more high security location that the threats stop, although I doubt they will. The far left just grows more and more out of control as its big government agenda is rejected more and more each day by a majority of Americans.
I’m curious, though, as to how many mainstream news media outlets will report this. Remember last summer and how the MSM unofficially treated it as the “summer of right wing hate” because a few extremist nut jobs (some of them not even “right wingers”) got stupid and made some threats? Journalists thought those threats were worthy of widespread reporting at the time. I think this story is a pretty big deal – especially considering the media’s obsession with the Tea Party. Not holding my breath that this story will get much attention outside of the beltway, though, because it doesn’t fit the established mainstream media narrative about how it’s only extremists on the right who will threaten the political opposition.

Other than agreeing that such behavior is despicable, my only comment is, why would you expect the MSM to report anything on this? At least until it has grown into so big a story they can’t ignore it.
Right Carlos, the MSM will simply ignore this, it doesn’t exist as far as they are concerned. They’ll jump at the chance to label a leftist attacking a cab driver as a hate crime by the Tea Party, but this will get no coverage.
After all these years liberals are still like Obama’s boy Bill Ayers, blowing things up in the dark, making anonymous threats, taking cheap shots when no one is looking, and basically behaving with the integrity of a catty, teenage school girl.
Interesting is how they follow the Alinsky tactics to the letter; first trying to sideline, insult and ridicule the “teabaggers” – using not only their sycophant media, but their leftist Hollywood pieholes – only to have it backfire on them as the Tea Party gained strength.
Now it’s desperation time and the next step in tactics as November looms; making public and phoned threats. As was mentioned, this eventually leads to the “Ayers method” of contracting individuals and groups to incite violent confrontation, with a calculative effort of shifting blame.
I hope this Restoring Honor rally goes off smoothly, but if I were a leftist this is exactly where I would focus my desperate tactics.
Good Gawd people, when is it going to sink in. The MSM will never again report objectively. I know you read much about how the MSM medium is getting hammered as to readership and viewership but they wont get it but they’re advertisers’ will. Keep a little pad next to you and begin writing down those companies like Progressive Insurance that supports this nonsense all the way to the bank. Stop purchasing their products and contact them with the reasons why. You bet you’ll see some change but this must be done collectively if it’s to have any effect.
As to the death threats from the left? How cute….
Tina, Progressive Insurance is owned by George Soros and donates money to very far left causes. Going to that company will do nothing. But, I think you are on track. The free market still dictates and is the best way for us to make our public opinion heard and followed. Collectively, a boycott of companies that keep the media able to float their half truths and biased reporting will definitely slow them down.
OH, not George Soros, Peter Lewis owns Progressive. They basically are the same, billionaires promoting the overthrow of our republic in favor of a communist state. Progressive Insurance donates a boatload of cash to Soros causes.
This is “stop the hate” taken to the only conclussion available to the left when the market place of ideas repudiates their ideas and values.

I find this whole thing so distressing, I am beginning to think that I just need to turn off the TV.
1. Why is it politically okay to wish conservative news hosts to die, often painful deaths, while it is equally unacceptable for conservative news hosts to wish that Obama fails? How the heck is this even close to equivalent?
2. Why are we supposed to take political comments made by uneducated entertainers as being serious political commentary? I do know that I will no longer watch 30 rock, or the Wanda Sykes sitcom.
3. somehow we are expected to believe that conservatives are naturally less intelligent than liberals? How ridiculous is that?
I am truly sickened by the disparity of coverage in the mainstream media, and being told that Fox News is faux… seems to me they get much more factually correct than the other networks, but, then again, I am just a stupid, ignorant, racist conservative (sarc).
I never know, because like most people I NEVER watch the main stream media.
Well, a check of all the major sites this morning, i.e. abcnews.com, cbsnews.com, msnbc.com, cnn.com shows negative for this story either in the news section or political sections. Absolutely nothing! But hey, all sites have multiple news articles trashing Glen Beck and countless articles questioning whether the Tea Party has influence or not over voters. And the big news of the day, not surprising in all these sites, is of course that former RNC chairman and campaign manager for George W. Bush’s 2004 presidential bid has announced that he is gay. They are all going crazy for this story. It’s looking like he might get a ticker tape parade through Manhattan from all the MSM propaganda outlets the way their tripping all over themselves covering his story.
After reading your next post, ST, is it any wonder the threats are made almost daily?
Anny is on the right track with her analysis that the left considers conservatives ignorant (x)-phobes, but that is as despicable as the belief (still widely held by some in today’s world) that some groups of people just aren’t capable of being taught or learning anything but the most basic of things. That was the excuse used for slavery in the western world, that is the excuse used for not teaching females in many muslim nations, that is always the excuse when one people feels threatened by another.
To some conservatives, it’s even the reason liberals are so bad. And that’s just not right. Deliberate ignorance is much different than the natural lack of intellectual capacity.
Carlos,
I agree completely with your analysis. For myself, I just seem to shut off when anyone calls someone else a name, ie. libtard, teabagger, etc. Seems to me that no dialog can occur if people don’t think of others as being able to contribute to the conversation, and namecall. Plus, what is with the death threats? That is so, so extreme…. Heck, that would be very frightening to have my life threatened (or any other).
Panic, is what it is. If you are secure in your ideas, and believe you are in the right, you don’t get hysterical at the opposition. You don’t wish them harm and death. You don’t physically assault them. You don’t run false flag operations to paint them as violent extremists (in fact, if you believe they are violent extremists and they don’t commit violence, if you are honest you re-examine your assessment).
The left is in full bore panic right now, and it is not going to abate. Do not get complacent, do not think anything is sewn up. These are the sort of poeple who will call down Gotterdammerung upon the entire nation if they think they’re going to lose.
I am holding my breath about the Glenn Beck event. I have believed for months that there is a real possibility of an attack from the left–and of course, MSN will report that it was from a whacko on the right. Should be a nail biter. I pray for their safety.
In the final analysis, it is those who fear their “freebies” being taken away from them, and they’ll either have to really work or starve (think SEIU and teachers).
That’s what it’s all about for most of the libs; for the rest (those in power), it is figuring out how to get more milk from “their” cash cow.
Tex,
Greetings from a fellow Texan! We recently went to visit my FIL who has been working in Norway for the past 2 years. Sadly he has decided that the Health Care system over there is what we need and thinks that my husband and I are stupid to oppose ObamaCare. He always says that Fox News lies but seems to totally ignore what the MSM is lying about. On his recent visit home my husband mentioned Nancy Pelosi’s comments at the 2010 Legislative Conference for the National Association of Counties where she said “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy”
My FIL looked a bit confused and then immediately said that the statement was stupid and that he could not understand why she would say such a thing. In his next breath he said that since he had not seen it on any of the MSM outlets that Fox must have lied about it. This is coming from a very intelligent guy that has an IQ in the genius range. My husband was stunned that regardless of the truth that his Dad is so blind as to not see it right in front of him. Needless to say we left and said nothing further to him about the subject.
People who only use the MSM as their source of “news” are willingly chosing to become blindmen. Sad, huh.
