“Religion of Peace” strikes again: Cartoonist has to go into hiding

Posted by: ST on September 16, 2010 at 11:11 am

The Seattle Weekly reports on how one of its cartoonists is having to “disappear from view” and essentially create a new life for herself from scratch thanks to intolerant Islamofascists who want her dead because she called for a “Draw Mohammed Day” earlier this year (via):

You may have noticed that Molly Norris’ comic is not in the paper this week. That’s because there is no more Molly.

The gifted artist is alive and well, thankfully. But on the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI, she is, as they put it, “going ghost”: moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in our paper or in City Arts magazine, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection program—except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab. It’s all because of the appalling fatwa issued against her this summer, following her infamous “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” cartoon.

Norris views the situation with her customary sense of the world’s complexity, and absurdity. When FBI agents, on a recent visit, instructed her to always keep watch for anyone following her, she responded, “Well, at least it’ll keep me from being so self-involved!” It was, she says, the first time the agents managed a smile. She likens the situation to cancer—it might basically be nothing, it might be urgent and serious, it might go away and never return, or it might pop up again when she least expects it.

God bless this woman, and please keep her safe from the fascistic thugs who want to do her harm.

Now, I want you to imagine for five seconds the howls of outrage from the left had this been a career woman who basically had to go into hiding because of death threats from a radical fringe fruit loop “Christian” group. We’d never hear the end of it, top mainstream media news outlets would do documentaries about “extremist Christianity in America,” President Obama would be giving us a lecture on the dangers of “religious extremism” (which he, curiously enough, never does when it comes to Islam), etc.  It would never stop, because the MSM and their cohorts on the left want you to believe that rare instances of Christian extremism are morally equivalent to the “tiny minority” (cough cough) of Islamists who have “hijacked an otherwise peaceful religion” (triple cough, double gag).

And speaking of Obama, AllahPundit has a wonderful question:

Question for Obama: If Terry Jones was endangering the troops by burning the Koran, then presumably Molly Norris is to blame for the threats against her, right?

And I have a question for other moral relativists on the left: Why are isolated nutcase Terry Jones’ deliberately provocative actions supposedly reflective of “all Christians” while routine worldwide fatwas, beatings, rapes, beheadings, murders, etc  done by Islamofascists only representative of a “tiny percentage” of all Islamists worldwide?

I won’t hold my breath waiting for an answer.

Of course, we all remember the worldwide call for the death of the “artist” who created and showed “Piss Christ” in NYC a few years ago.

The media and prez almost get it right, though, about the “tiny percentage.” Except the “tiny percentage” is the percentage of Muslims not willing to kill in the name of Allah, or who stand by silently while others do what they can’t bring themselves to do without complaint.

I’m glad Ms. Norris can make light of this; the ability to laugh in the face of adversity is essential to sanity. But I hope the FBI brought home to her the need to take her situation seriously at all times by reminding her of the example of Theo van Gogh.

Now she’s joined the ranks of others persecuted by Muslims for exercising her right of free speech: Lars Vilks, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Salman Rushdie, a whole bunch of Danish cartoonists, and others who have had to go into hiding because of threats against their lives. For merely exercising the same inalienable right we are all born with.

Where is the Left, now that Free Speech is under attack? Where are the feminists, now that a woman has been forced to go into hiding? When Bush was president, they acted as if the Patriot Act was the second coming of Hitler’s Enabling Act. But now… You can almost hear the crickets.

It’s just disgusting on so many levels.

How were we to know about this except here? Where is the outcry and rebuke from the leftist Media? Their silence condones this heinous threat. Unbelievable. See how easy it will be to slide Shiria Law into America? They’ve already got the lamestream media fawning, excusing threats and terrorist acts and crimes against women, ignoring the stealth tactics and defending the religion and the Victory Mosque at Ground Zero. This will be a piece of cake–burka’s may be the next big fashion trend sweeping what was once America.

  4. Kate says:

Hey Jo..keep an eye on Fashion Week….burkas will be the rage.

This whole issue is infuriating…it’s a limitation of freedom of speech. When you have those on the left espousing the “fairness doctrine” that guides and enforces what you can say via media outlets you MUST take it seriously.

I hate that some people have to take to hiding for their own protection for nothing more threatening that asking people to draw a cartoon character, let alone speaking honest truth about the “religion of peace”.

  5. the answer to your last question is that the muslims are political allies of the left and the christian right is not. talk about politics making strange bedfellows, you have an alliance between a theocratic religion and a atheist political ideology. marxism and islam perfect together.

  6. Carlos says:

Which just goes to show, Thomas, that Islam is not a religion but a socio-economic/political system of severe restraint on practitioners (especially women). The “religion” aspect of it is simply for the yahoo youngin’s to get them to murder themselves and others.

I don’t see a whole lot of Islamic “leaders” doing the dirty work there.

But, of course, that reality means little to liberals in general and our apologizer-in-chief specifically.
