Arrest made in alleged military recruitment center bomb plot in Baltimore area

Via Fox News:

DEVELOPING: Authorities say an individual has been arrested in the Baltimore area for plotting to blow up a military recruitment center.

Antonio Martinez, a Muslim convert who called himself Muhammed Hussain, was arrested and will appear in federal court on Wednesday, Fox News confirms.

An official told Fox News that the arrest was part of a sting operation and that there is no threat to the American public. The official said the suspect was given a phony bomb and was arrested after trying to detonate it.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspect’s goal was to blow up a military recruitment center in Baltimore County.

One official told Fox News that this is “another Portland-type case.”

 The Baltimore Sun has more:

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore said the man attempted to detonate what he believed to be a vehicle bomb this morning.

There was no evidence that the plot was tied to recent shootings at military recruiting centers in the Washington D.C. area.

The man, who was not identified, is scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court this afternoon. An FBI spokesman declined to comment.

The Associated Press first reported the arrest. An official who was briefed on the arrest told the AP on the condition of anonymity, because he was not authorized to release the information, that the individual is a United States citizen.

Waiting for The Usual Suspects on the far left to claim this wasn’t a “real plot” in 3, 2, …

As they say, stay tuned.
