Gag alert: “Golf Summit” in the works for Obama and Boehner

Posted by: ST on June 3, 2011 at 6:53 pm

The Politico reports that Dueling Duo of President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner are preparing to tee up together in the not-so-distant future in an attempt to ‘work through differences':

President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will finally hit the links for a round of golf – and al fresco negotiation – on June 18, a White House official told POLITICO.

Obama’s offer — and Boehner’s acceptance — came six months after White House press secretary Robert Gibbs suggested the two could work out their differences on the course. Both men are passionate golfers; Obama prefers to hit public courses with a handful of friends and White House staffers while Boehner favors private courses, golf fundraisers and schmoozing sessions with other pols.

The game will be at a course in the Washington area, but exactly where – and the names of the other two duffers rounding out the foursome – are yet to be determined, a person familiar with the situation said.

The Wall Street Journal’s Washington Wire adds:

Both Mr. Obama and Mr. Boehner are avid golf players, but the House speaker is considered the better of the two. Golf Digest ranked Mr. Boehner 43rd on its list of Washington’s top golfers, while President Obama is ranked 108. Another administration official, Vice President Joe Biden, is ranked 29th.

Flooding and tornadoes have devastated parts of several states, the economy isn’t even limping along at this point, today’s jobs report was more like a “McJobs” report, so …. let’s go golfing! Yes, MSM, please show the images of our “leaders” out there golfing while thousands struggle to repair and rebuild, and hundreds of thousands still struggle to find work. The symolism and imagery should be quite striking.

Seriously, WTH are these people thinking? :-\

Speaker Boehner is NOT taking the PEOPLE seriously! The magnitude of the problems that need to be discussed deserve the seriousness of a larger group, in a meeting room, preferably with cameras rolling, mics on..not a cutesy golf date!

Mr. Boehner has received many emails from citizens begging him to LEAD and NOT play Obama’s media games. This golf date is not leading, it’s about appearances…go along, get along. I’m totally disgusted if this happens because he WILL be playing right into Obama’s narcissistic little hands, merely another useful idiot for a photo op of Obama, drawn in close, with hand on shoulder, appearing to be directing the conversation, doing most of the talking, you know about all his great/s ideas! Boehner will appear respectful and enamored in Obama’s presence. That’s the way it always goes, like a spider with a trap.

The way I see it, Boehner can NOT get along, be friendly, appear to be a Country Club buddy of Obama and maintain the respect of the PEOPLE, as we KNOW how destructive this person and his administration have been to America and what future destruction they have in the works. Perhaps, it is time for MORE email blasts to Speaker Boehner, this time screaming FORE!.. his warning

  2. PE says:

I’m sure that John Boehner is only eighteen holes away from transforming his partner from an America hating, idiotic, ideologue to a paragon of an objective, fact-based problem solving champion of our Nation. Yup. Gonna deal with him as if he’s a rational player, on our side, never mind his track record of inflicting maximum harm upon anything that works to our benefit.

  3. Tango says:

….both of these men are tone deaf. Another Marie Antoinette moment (let them eat cake!).

  4. PE says:

Paula – your take is righteous and commendable. Hope it’s not rare.

  5. RM says:

Did Pelosi ever play nice with President Bush?

  6. Carlos says:

RM, Pelousy never played nice with her own husband, so why would she play nice with a bumbling idiot like GW?

And come on, folks, this is about Washington power and has absolutely nothing to do with all us “small people.”

My personal opinion is that Boehner is just as much a corruptocrat as Duh-1, he just doesn’t have the Chicago thug perfection Duh-1 has.

  7. Drew the Infidel says:

To paraphrase the late Paul “Bear” Bryant’s famous quote about football coaches, show me an elected official with a good golf game and I’ll show you an elected official who needs to spend more time on his official duties.

  8. I’ll tell you what they think it looks like. They think it looks like they’re saying, “look folks, we know things are bad, but don’t be too worried. Things aren’t really as bad as it looks. We have things under control. Would we, your leaders, spend time on a golf course if things were really that bad?”

  9. Carlos says:

Gee, I don’t know, mssrs. Obama and Boehner. Did Nero worry while Rome burned?

  10. captaingrumpy says:

I always thought the speaker was more worried about his image than the troubles of America.
Time for him to go and T party people take over. They understand the worry.
The speaker didn’t back the house on Libya withdrawal because he wanted his own Bill. That’s enough to show me he’s a little like Obozo.

  11. Coastal Eddie says:

The speaker’s name is correctly truncated: Bo’ner which he pulls all the time.

  12. Aarradin says:

I don’t see how a Speaker of the House can turn down an invitation by a President to speak for an extended length of time – which a round of golf pretty much guarantees. Granted, Obama is mostly trying to make himself look ‘bipartisan’, but consider what the press would be running of Boehner said ‘no’ to the invite. Obama is an idealogue, of course, so its extemely unlikely Boehner will be able to change his mind on anything.

Also, I have no problem with Obama playing golf and taking extended vacations. Those are the only activities he has that don’t do actual harm to the country. If only he’d take Pelosi and Reid with him so they’d be doing less damage as well. In 2 1/2 years in office, the only decision Obama’s made that hasn’t been a disaster was his choice of Bo as first dog (and yes, I’m counting the Bin Laden raid since it turns out the decision was made for him, not by him).
