This is going to happen at the state levels, too, as liberal governors and legislatures learn that undying fealty to public unions and those runaway pensions are killing their beloved social programs.
Let us look at a few basic facts. A large majority of Teachers are simply incompetent. But they have tenure, which is just another way to say they can’t be fired for their incompetence. Their salaries are protected, as is their incompetence, by, you guessed it, Unions. Those Saviors of the poor common man, Unions.
Let’s get real. On the list of the best educational systems in the entire world, country by country, the United States of America is just about on the last page. How could that be? We’re the leading Industrial nation in the world, after China of course. How could we not have the best school system just like we have the world’s largest aircraft carriers? Simple, really. The people who build and run the aircraft carriers don’t have Unions.
I’ll make it simple. I have a lemonade stand. I sell lemonade for $2.00. If the cost of lemons doesn’t go crazy, I make money. I’m doing pretty good with my lemonade stand, so I decide to put another stand across town. It works. Pretty soon, I have twenty stands and people working for me selling lemonade. Then the local lemonade Union gets involved. Not because they have any interest whatsoever in the people who work for me and sell my lemonade. No, they simply want a piece of the action. So, they organize my employees, who were perfectly happy to have a job before the Union came along. They demand higher wages and a retirement plan and healthcare for everyone they ever thought they were related to. They drive up the price of my lemonade to $5.00 a glass. My sales predictably decline. I close a few locations that are not performing. Everybody screams, including the Union. “You can’t do this! We work hard for you and we depend on you for our living! You have to get better at managing your business! Really? And exactly why do I have to do that? My employees didn’t create my business. The unions that support my employees didn’t create my business. No, I remember clearly, that I created my business by myself. It was my idea. I invested my own money and put at risk money that I had saved, to create a business based on an idea that I had myself. My employees didn’t do it. The unions certainly didn’t do it. No, I did it myself. My question to you then, is why should I support all these people and their ridiculous demands, when they had nothing whatsoever to do with creating my business in the first place? If they want to add lead weights to my airplane so it won’t fly anymore and crashes, why should I feel sorry for them in the least? Guess what? I don’t.
You hate all those nasty, greedy corporations that took their manufacturing to China, right? Of course, you wouldn’t think for a moment to consider that the Federal Damned Government and their taxes, or the innocent Unions had anything to do with that, Of course not. Just keep drinking the lemonade. Not mine, of course. I was referring to the lemonade served up by your own Federal Government and the Unions that support Obama.
There is no creativity in Government, folks. Government does not create anything. Private industry creates. Government just takes from what private industry creates.
You can get your arms around that basic fact of life, or you can just keep drinking the Koolaid. As an alternative, I sell lemonade at $ 2.00 a glass. Well, at least I used to. Before the Government and the Unions got involved.
