Left wing extremism goes mainstream over God, Jerusalem vote at #DNC2012

Posted by: ST on September 6, 2012 at 11:02 am

This is probably one of the most shocking, disturbing, and revealing things to come out of a national political convention in modern day history, and it speaks volumes as to how the far left anti-Christian, anti-Israel hardliners in the Democrat party have gone from fringe to mainstream:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two platform planks sparked division at the Democratic National Convention here Wednesday.

Things got so bad that President Barack Obama was forced to personally intervene, ordering language mentioning God and naming Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel be added.

While the campaign at first said Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, it later said he did not learn of the issue until Wednesday morning, when he became aware of seeing news coverage of the issue. Once that happened, the president directed his staff to change the language to include a reference to God and Jerusalem as Israel’s capital because, the campaign source said, the amended version is “consistent with the president’s own positions.”

And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the convention’s chairman, kicked off Wednesday’s proceedings by trying to clean up a mess Democrats made by omitting from their official party platform mentions of God and of Jerusalem as the preferred capital of Israel.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland made the motion to reinsert the language about God and Jerusalem back into the platform:

This summer, I was proud to serve this party as the platform drafting committee chair. I came before you today to discuss the two important matters related to our party’s national platform. As an ordained United Methodist Minister, I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the value we have expressed in our party’s platform. In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and our party’s platform should as well. Mr. Chairman, I have submitted my amendment in writing and I believe it is being projected on the screen for the delegates to see. I move adoption of the amendment as submitted and shown to the delegates.

Watch below to see what happened:

Villaraigosa took a voice vote three times. Two-thirds of the convention hall did not say “aye” and two-thirds did not say “no.” In other words, there was no consensus. In fact, it seemed to me that it was split down the middle, with half voting for the inclusion and half being opposed to it.

But this issue has turned into such a political embarrassment for Democrats wanting to try and maintain their bizarre lock on the Jewish vote, that Villaraigosa took it upon himself to declare the two amendments to the platform as “passed” with a two-thirds majority vote, when it had not been. Once he made that declaration, there were audible loud boos in the audience.

Yes, dear readers, at least half of the convention hall booed at the insertion of God and recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel back into the Democratic party’s official platform. I’m sure they were also booing what clearly was an anti-democratic pronouncement by Villaraigosa over the “passage” of the amendments – which is an understandable reason to be upset. But with that being said, the story of the day coming out of this convention was not the stream of (predictable) lies coming from Democrats ranging from Bill Clinton to Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, but the fact that at least half of the Democrat party diehards at the convention did not want the word God reinserted into their platform, nor did they want Jerusalem recognized as Israel’s capital.

Alana Goodman at Commentary writes in response:

It’s hard not to have sympathy for Villaraigosa. Pro-Israel Democrats have been lobbying the DNC all day to change the platform, and convention leadership probably assumed this vote would be the end of it. The shock on Villaraigosa’s face shows you how far in denial the Democratic Party has been about the anti-Israel sentiment spreading among its ranks. Think he’s picturing how many TV ads replaying this moment Sheldon Adelson’s money can buy in Florida?

This video should chill every pro-Israel Democrat to the bone — actually, scratch that, it should chill every pro-Israel American to the bone. Israel relies on bipartisan political support from the U.S., it’s strongest ally. This floor vote at the DNC portends a day when that bipartisan support may cease to exist.

And who has helped lead the way in this anti-Israel effort? President Obama himself. Ben Shapiro:

Sources also report that the language was changed “to reflect the president’s personal view.” This is bull. President Obama has never recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and neither has his spokesperson or State Department. He has never taken a public position against the so-called “right of return,” which would destroy Israel as a Jewish state. And he has publicly stated that Israel should use the 1949 armistice lines as the baseline of any future negotiations. This was obviously a political move designed to prevent disillusioned Jewish voters from leaving the Democratic voters in droves. If Jews are smart — and if they watch this tape — they’ll realize that the base of the Democratic Party simply does not support Israel, even if the DNC quashes their votes.

I won’t hold my breath, but it will be very interesting to see the exit polling numbers on the Jewish vote come November.

Stay tuned.

I am still THOROUGHLY confused. Were they booing the God language or the Jerusalem thing or both? Booing EITHER is terrible and makes no sense to me whatsoever. I really hope some people who shouted ‘NO’ and booed were interviewed. This was an INSANE moment.

Agree, ST. I hope I’m wrong, but it seems to me that the Jewish vote is much like the union vote or the black vote for Dems; automatic.

I’m sure they were also booing what clearly was an anti-democratic pronouncement by Villaraigosa over the “passage” of the amendments – which is an understandable reason to be upset.

If the controversy over inclusion itself doesn’t open the eyes of every independent or “undecided” in the country, I hope this does. It’s a window of truth into how far to the left the progressives and communists have taken the party.

  3. Tex says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those idiots there didn’t try to have “Death to Christians” inserted into the party platform.

  4. Carlos says:

Let’s be clear here about a couple of points.

First, it was only a few weeks ago that the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party (a.k.a., the LSM) was burning Romney at the stake for saying that Jerusalem was the capitol of Israel.

Second, Obama’s faith and beliefs had absolutely nothing to do with his pressure to change the platform. It was a cold, calculated move to save what he could of an important traditional Democrat voting bloc. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing the current occupier of our house does is because of his faith in what others recognize as a higher power, because to him, he is that higher power. It was a pure, unadulterated political move.

No matter what side of the question any attendee was on, the brazen, evil despotism of the leadership should cause everyone there (and the nation at large) to pause and consider whether they want such people running our country, or even being active participants in decisions of direction for this country (as elected representatives).

  5. Kate says:

Debbie Wasser-face Shultz explained that it was President Obama himself who asked that the word “GOD” (and to them it is just a word) and that Jerusalem remain the capital of Israel back into the platform and was a technical error….

    Link: http://thehill.com/video/campaign/247885-wasserman-schultz-calls-jerusalem-omission-technical-error

Okay, that sounds like a creepy way to go about setting the record straight…and changing a party platform.

Can this be known as another “executive order”

  6. There are two ways to lie, commission and omission, and the commiecrats have shown they are adept at both. Both God and Jerusalem were taken out with Obhammud’s approval. He was raised a Muslim and degenerated into religious twerp. And he disrespects Netanyahu at every given opportunity. (He has not visited Israel once.) They may have reinserted Jerusalem but they omitted the original language condemning Hamas.

I have witnessed that voice vote repeatedly and the measure did NOT carry.

  7. Sefton says:

    Drew –
Even though we know Obhammud approved of the original plank text, and that he would’ve preferred for it to stay that way…
I would wager that he is changing his spots again this very moment prior to his speech tonight. He and his speechwriters are doing some fierce editing to include some variation of his (feigned) support for Israel as well as references to God – I would guess some plagiarizing of a Reagan speech, for example.

He needs to plug this hole quick because it’s pouring out too much truth about the Democrats.

  8. Carlos says:

Yep, Sefton, it seems that even Duh-1 is beginning to realize that the frogs in boiling water are starting to realize his real agenda and getting nervous about it, so he has to dial back the heat a bit.

He’ll still boil us all, but many won’t wake up to it until they’re at least medium rare…

  9. Clinton the Unabanger went overboard in laying down excuses for Obhammud’s long unbroken string of failures. What has me mystified is the claim no one (even God himself?) could have corrected the economic mess inherited from Bush. How do the commiecrats reconcile that statement with Obhammud’s claim of being one of the top four presidents in this nation’s history? Or with his prediction he would make the planet cool and the oceans recede along with other Messianic feats?

  10. Sefton says:

Villaraigosa took a voice vote three times.

And he was booed three times.
All that was needed after that was a rooster crowing loudly in the hall.

  11. Eric Eikenberry says:

“rooster crowing loudly”? They got Clinton later, didn’t they?

  12. Great White Rat says:

In fact, it seemed to me that it was split down the middle, with half voting for the inclusion and half being opposed to it.

ST, you forget the sage advice of one of their ideological forefathers, Joe Stalin: “The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”

All Villaraigosa did was apply that principle like any reliable leftist would.

  13. TexasMom2012 says:

There was absolutely no way that the amendment passed by a 2/3rd majority. It was closer to 50-50 than anything else.

I do not understand how any American can support the Dems. How can any Christian (of which are the majority of Americans, including AfricanAmericans) or any of our Jewish citizens could possibly support Obama if they have watched any news over the last few years. Starting with his star treatment of countries in the middle east whom are not friendly to us and ending with his hostility to our traditional allies. This most recent fiasco just highlights Obama’s unreasoning utter hostility to Isreal.

I pray that all Americans wake up before it is too late.

  14. Drew the Infidel says:

“Jesus said to him (Peter), ‘Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.'”–Matthew 26:34

  15. Kate says:

The teleprompter told the whole truth….the matter was decided even before the voice vote! Now that’s democracy in action…NOT!

  16. Jiji says:

I was waiting to see if anyone mentioned the teleprompter before I did. Villaraigosa is a puppet just like most of the demo leaders. He exactly parroted the words as he was told to do on the teleprompter.

It is hard to understand how so many American demos are able to support the party that they registered in when chicanery is exposed at every turn.

  17. Carlos says:

For a Democrat, Jiji, chicanery is a way of life, so why worry about it when it’s one of your fine-feathered buddies doing it? It only counts when done by someone who disagrees with the Democrats, and at that point everything becomes chicanery to them.

  18. kb says:

The convention-floor vote shows that the Democrats don’t believe in God. The three-day celebration of abortion shows that they don’t believe in Motherhood. Do Democrats still believe in Apple Pie? (I mean Democrats besides Michelle, we KNOW she doesn’t!)
