Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory was sworn in earlier today as only our 4th (I had previously in error said 3rd) GOP Governor since 1901:

Gov.-elect Pat McCrory is sworn in as North Carolina’s 74th governor by Chief Justice Sarah Parker as McCrory’s wife Ann, right, looks on in the House chamber of the old Capitol building in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. McCrory, a Republican and the former mayor of Charlotte, replaces outgoing Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue to become governor a week before the public inauguration.

And the very important factoid of the day, also courtesy of the Charlotte Observer (bolded emphasis added by me):
McCrory is the first Republican governor in 20 years since Jim Martin, and the party now controls both the executive and legislative branches for the first time since 1870. The GOP also has expanded majorities in the General Assembly after gaining control of both chambers in 2010.
The NC GOP also added three new members to the US House, and we now have a GOP Lt. Governor as well. And this time around, Barack Obama did NOT carry this state. We bucked national Election Day trends in a big way.
It’s a great day to be a conservative, freedom-loving, small government North Carolinian!! ![]()

Good job, North Carolina!
Irrespective of any opinions anyone may have formed about Governor Rick Perry during the last Presidential election, he has been good for Texas. He has been able to recruit several solid businesses to relocate here from the anti-business environment in CA and elsewhere.
Well done, North Carolina.
Drew, Perry was my first choice among those running. I think he’d have made a fine president. A shame about how the race turned out.
North Carolina showing the way!
