Caption This: VP Biden swipes pacifier from Bloomberg’s grandson

First, the story:

It’s like stealing candy from a baby — except it was a pacifier, and the thief was Vice President Biden.

At Michael Bloomberg’s knighthood ceremony at the British embassy in Washington Wednesday, the country’s second highest politician grabbed the former mayor’s baby grandson for some play-time — and proceeded to stick the toddler’s pacifier in his mouth.

The child’s mother, Georgina Bloomberg, captured the odd moment on camera, and posted the funny pic to her Facebook page.

Adorable child. The veep? Well …

If you guessed our VP Joe “Captain Gaffetastic” Biden, you’d be right (via Memeorandum):

Philadelphia, Pa. (CBS DC/AP) – Vice President Joe Biden told Democrats Friday that the past six years have been “really, really hard” for the country and the Democratic Party.

Speaking at the House Democratic Caucus retreat in Philadelphia Friday morning, Biden stressed that “really tough decisions” have faced both Democrats and the country as a whole.

“To state the obvious, the past six years have been really, really hard for this country,” said Biden.

“And they’ve been really tough for our party. Just ask [former DCCC chair] Steve [Israel],” continued Biden. “They’ve been really tough for our party. But together – and together — we made some really, really tough decisions — decisions that weren’t at all popular, hard to explain.”

Watch the video below:

Let’s predict which 2016 presidential contender will use this line first? If you think it’d be Hillary, you’d be wrong … remember, she and Joey B. worked together for the first few years of President Obama’s presidency. Now consider the possibilities if they BOTH run for president. Will other candidates on “their side” use the quote against either of them? Imagine the sparks that will fly … #popcorn

Skinny Veeping? New book details Biden’s alleged fondness for skinny dipping

VP Biden - SOTU

Maybe not exactly what you wanted to know about the Vice President, but we need a little “lighter side” news these days, and this story is a perfect fit:

It’s the Joe Biden you didn’t know — and might not want to see.

Secret Service agents dread being assigned to protect the vice president, in part because Biden’s a big fan of skinny dipping, according to a new tell-all book.

In “The First Family Detail,” author Ronald Kessler quotes unnamed Secret Service agents dishing about the supposedly “hidden lives” of Presidents and the other important people they protect.

Biden is portrayed as being more interested in coming off as a “regular Joe” than being potentially responsible for the nation’s nuclear codes.

Not to mention he’s a guy who apparently doesn’t have a problem getting naked.

“Agents say that, whether at the vice president’s residence or at his home in Delaware, Biden has a habit of swimming in his pool nude,” Kessler writes.

“Female Secret Service agents find that offensive.”

[…]

Between Biden’s “lack of consideration as evidenced by” his naked aquatics and his supposedly incessant last-minute schedule changes, “being assigned to his detail is considered the second worst assignment in the Secret Service,” Kessler writes.

Coming in at No. 1, per Kessler: Protecting Hillary Clinton.

While news of Biden’s alleged swims in the buff is a bit shocking, Hillary’s being difficult for the Secret Service to handle,  well – let’s just say there are no surprises there ….

Billionaire Dem donor Tom Steyer to host VP Biden at home for fundraiser

SHOCKING, right?  Via The Politico:

Liberal billionaire Tom Steyer will host Vice President Joe Biden at his San Francisco home May 28 for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, according to a source familiar with the event’s planning.

It’s the latest indication that Steyer, a vocal opponent of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline and an outspoken advocate for tackling climate change, is building strong ties to Democrats in Washington.

President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have both made appearances at Steyer-hosted fundraisers in the past year.

[…]

Republicans have criticized Steyer’s growing involvement in politics. They’ve also bashed Reid and other Democrats for attending his fundraisers at the same time that railing against the Koch brothers has become a prominent liberal theme.

A DNC spokesman confirmed the news of the fundraiser.

The Democrat talking point that only Republicans are beholden to “big money donors” and special interests continues to circle right down the toilet.  Not that most in the mainstream media will take notice of it and write about it in any meaningful way, but you knew that already.

Move along here, nothing to see…

Caption This: Joe Biden posts selfie pic of himself and President Obama

He posted it to his new Instagram account last night, and of course the White House Twitter feed picked it up:

Now, I know y’all will be able to do wonders with giving this “selfie” the caption it deserves, but remember to keep it clean, please. ;) Twitchy.com has some good ones that were tweeted out last night.

I’m guessing the two weren’t actually riding together in the same car when this photo was taken, as the Secret Service understandably dictates the President and VP can’t travel in the same vehicle for security purposes. But, I can safely assume that this has everything to do with the “guy’s trip” The Hill reported yesterday that President Obama and the Veep went on in an attempt at trying to pivot the national discussion back to the economy:

President Obama and Vice President Biden took what the president dubbed “a guy’s trip” to western Pennsylvania on Wednesday, as the White House looked to refocus attention on the president’s economic agenda.

During a stop at a local community college, Obama announced $600 million in government training initiatives designed to help workers find jobs.

That includes $500 million to help community colleges tailor their curriculums to better fit employers’ needs, and $100 million in grants to fund apprenticeship programs.
“We want a seamless progression from community college programs to industry-recognized credentials and credit towards a college degree,” Obama said.

The president looked to draw a contrast with “some folks” in Washington who have stymied his economic agenda, with his budget proposals and stimulus plans earning little momentum on Capitol Hill. But despite a series of events focusing on his economic messaging, the White House has so far failed to gain traction on his policy proposals.

Obama acknowledged he and Biden “sometimes sound like a broken record” as they discuss their economic proposals.

But, the president argued, it was “more urgent now than ever that we push forward” because of how the job market was changing.

[…]

Before speaking, Obama and Biden met with students at the community college who showed off their work in a “mechatronics” course where they learn how to operate mechanical systems through electronics. Two students showed Obama and Biden a motor control system that simulated a garage door opener.

“We’re lawyers, we barely understand garage door openers,” Obama quipped.

Or, how to fix the economy, for that matter …

LOL. This was just too good to resist. TPM sets it up:

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden jogged around the White House in a video released Thursday for the fourth anniversary of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign.

Video (yes, there is ACTING involved here):

And here’s your “Caption This” image, which is a screencap from the video:

In the event you think briskly sprinting around the White House is something new for President Obama and Vice President Biden, please think again – they take the opportunity to run away from things every chance they get! :))

Yes, I’ll be here all week … hold the applause, please! ;)

Photo of the Day: VP Joe Biden kicks back in a red Corvette

VP Biden

Our VP – a laugh a minute …

Oh my. This one is just begging for a caption, y’all:

The backstory, via the Wall Street Journal:

Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, lauded U.S. auto makers for coming back from the brink – but saved his highest praise for a flashy new Corvette.

“What a difference five years makes,” Mr. Biden said to auto executives, noting that in 2009 car sales plunged and many questioned whether the auto industry could survive the recession. Auto sales have surged in recent months and climbed back to precrisis levels.

“American cars and trucks are once again changing the game and I might add providing good, decent jobs,” he said.

The Obama administration bailed out the U.S. auto industry, and despite facing a lot of criticism for doing so President Barack Obama and the vice president frequently point to the revival of U.S. auto makers as an economic success story.

[…]

The vice president has a 1967 Corvette Stingray that his father bought him as a wedding gift. He lamented that the Secret Service doesn’t allow him to drive it anymore due to security reasons, but that hasn’t stopped him getting behind the wheel in his driveway at his home in Delaware.

He said he told his Secret Service agent last year “either get in the passenger seat with me or shoot me, because I’m moving.” Mr. Biden said he did a 60-foot burnout—in his driveway, not on a public road.

He added: “I just want you to know that that ’67 was zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds. I didn’t do that…but it was. But this new Corvette, Z06, is zero to 60, allegedly, in 3.4 seconds.”

[…]

After the speech, according to the pool report, Mr. Biden visited the Ford stand, where he met Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. and Rep. John Dingell (D., Mich.). “Thank you for saving our ass,” Mr. Biden told Mr. Ford, apparently referring to the 2008-2009 auto crisis, when company was the only one of the Big 3 to not seek a government bailout.

LOL! Fraudian slip? ;)

Vancouver, WA man on gun charge: @VP Biden owes me an apology for bad advice

Biden Owes Me

Vancouver, WA’s Jeffrey C. Barton. Image via The Columbian’s Emily Gillespie.

The Columbian reports:

Jeffrey C. Barton wants an apology from Vice President Joe Biden.

The Vancouver man faces a misdemeanor charge of illegally discharging a firearm from an incident July 15 in which he says he fired a shotgun in the air to chase away three men who were allegedly breaking into his vehicles.

After pleading not guilty July 17 to the misdemeanor charge, 52-year-old Barton said that he was following advice from the vice president of the United States.

“I did what Joe Biden told me to do. I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air,” he said.

Barton’s comment on Biden refers to a question about home defense that Biden was asked in February. Biden responded that Americans don’t need semi-automatic weapons because a couple blasts from a shotgun will scare off intruders.

Clark County Sheriff’s deputies said that’s only allowed in self-defense.

Barton’s comment, dubbed the “Joe Biden defense,” became international news and was the subject of a two-minute segment on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

He appeared in court this morning. While maintaining that he did nothing wrong, Barton said outside the courtroom that Biden owes him an apology. Underneath a black jacket, Barton wore a black T-shirt with the words “Joe Biden Owes Me,” written in white letters on the back.

“He should really know the law before he starts giving America advice on national television,” Barton said Tuesday morning.

A lot of people will read this and laugh, but I find the case a bit intriguing.  Of course, ultimately it is incumbent upon individual citizens to read up on the gun laws in their respective states so they can know what their specific rights are when it comes to firearms, but by the same token it is incumbent upon our elected officials to be responsible enough NOT give out off the cuff , spur of the moment, unsure “advice” on how best to protect yourself, ward off criminals, and handle your weapons!  From a February HuffPo piece:

During a Facebook Town Hall hosted by Parents magazine, Biden took a handful of questions from readers about gun violence. One questioner named Kate asked how gun owners would be able to sufficiently protect themselves if Congress passed a bill banning certain weapons and high-capacity gun magazines.

“Kate, if you want to protect yourself, get a double barreled shotgun,” Biden responded. “I promise you, as I told my wife, we live in an area that’s wooded and somewhat secluded. I said, Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put [up] that double barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.”

The vice president said that by firing two shotgun blasts, anyone who might be trying to break in would be scared off.

“You don’t need an AR-15,” he said. “Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!”

Again, Mr. Barton is responsible for his own actions but Vice President Biden should have also had to bear some responsibility for, frankly, his irresponsibility – and he should have done it way back when by clarifying his remarks once he had gotten advice from experts. Self defense is a serious issue that involves serious discussion on a national stage, none of which describes the “advice” Biden gave earlier this year.
