Elitists have set arbitrary ’standards’ as qualifications for the Supreme Court. The Constitution itself does not require the best judges, the best legal minds, or the best of anything. A special interest group has established a privileged class in a nation that claims to treat all people as equals under the law. They now apply their secret measure to rate the qualifications of Harriet Miers.
Sophists have has already substituted “legally accurate without volunteering information” for “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” They use elaborate procedures and legal precedents to suppress self evident truth from juries of ordinary men and women. They fashioned an irrational barrier between the intelligence community and law enforcement agents which protects the violent and increases potential injury to victims. They wish to exclude consent of the governed from their deliberations.
Those who follow the main stream media understand that when a reporter becomes an advocate they can lose their objectivity and impartiality (e. g. Rathergate). Some lawyers spend a lifetime as advocates and then become judges and were are to believe they will be objective and examine each case on its merits.
In a society of equals, anyone with personal integrity, analytical skills, commitment to public service, and ordinary intelligence and experience should be sufficiently qualified to serve in any public office. Finding someone with such attributes that is willing to withstand an onslaught of negative personal attacks is difficult enough. Let’s not put additional, unconstitutional, stumbling blocks in the way.
