Save it, Prince Charles

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on October 30, 2005 at 11:23 am

We bend over backwards here to show how sensitive we are to Islamists (oftentimes at great risk to our own peril). We don’t need for you to come and tell us how insensitive you think we’ve been. It’ll be nice to have you visit, but too bad the topic isn’t going to be something else.

Whenever the Prince of Ears opens up, I fervrently pray “God Save the Queen.”
At least until Chuck agrees to pass the title to Edward.

This is like the time Al Gore gave a speech during a blizzard in NYC about global warming.

Horrible timing Chucky what with three girls beheaded by members of the religion of peace and the recent violence in India.

Does Goofy really believe that Muslims are getting a bad rap? The man must be a complete idiot.

Go home UpChuck. Go home and work on getting Miss Piggy and Arnold the Pig banned because their existence offends the fainthearted Muslims.

Hey I understand there are still some children in England with piggy banks. Perhaps you should go home and make sure they’re all destroyed lest some Muslim swoons at the sight of one.

    Idiot.

  3. NCSean says:

    Sorry. Wrong topic.

That’s ok, NCSean … I see you reposted in the correct comments section. :) I deleted the one you accidentally posted in this thread. –ST

If the Prince of Wales would rather be defender of faiths than Defender of the Faith, I would have absolutely no problem with the crown passing directly from Elizabeth II to her grandson, Prince William. If the Prince of Wales doesn’t care for the title of Defender of the Faith, I think he ought not to accept it.

Prince Charles is a man who preferred Camilla Shand to Diana Spencer, but didn’t have the testosterone to marry her before she wed her first husband. Then, after he had married Diana Spencer, perhaps somewhat of an airhead but beautiful and dignified and loyal, lacked the discipline and common sense to not screw the now married Mrs. Parker-Bowles, and had all of the maturity to wish that he were her tampon as part of what he saw as romantic conversation.

Such a history gives me rather little confidence in his judgement on anything else.

“This is like the time Al Gore gave a speech during a blizzard in NYC about global warming.”

Do people really think that global warming will mean there won’t be any more cold days in winter? What a shame. There goes the public dialogue on that.

  6. Yes, let’s have no diversity of opinion, after all.

You’re either with us or against us.

    Good grief.

  7. Aidan Maconachy says:

In a recent post on his site Daniel Pipes makes a point of differentiating between Islamists and people of mainstream Islamic faith.

Islamists are radicals who have delibareately set about distorting the teachings of Islam in order to justify their jihad mentality. A great many Muslims are terrorized by these extremists also and reject them as representitives of true Islam.

I have noticed that on some sites there is tendency to slam Islam as a religion and seek to demonize its adherents. This a huge mistake. European Muslims have the power to force the radicals out to the fringes and that will make them easier to monitor and investigate. However if moderate Muslims feel they also are being targeted, they will be much less likely to cooperate with the governments of their respective nations.

Charles clearly wants to elaborate on these distinctions, however I don’t think it matters one way or another what he has to say because given the tragi-comic nature of his life and times, most people receive his pronouncements with more than a slight touch of irony .

  8. Elendril says:

The Brits are probably the last people who should be counseling the US on religious tolerance, however, there is a lot of ignorance of non-Christian faiths in this country. Religious extremists are dangerous regardless of what religion they use. It’s not the “Islamic” or “Muslim” or “Christian” or “Jewish” part that should scare anyone but the “Fundamentalist” part of the group that should scare the hell out of us.
The US has a large group of people in power who truly believe and fight for our country to be run according to certain Christian beliefs and values. Some folks in this group are willing to blow up abortion providers, make consensual sodomy illegal, or treat your drug addiction by giving you a jail cell that used to hold a murderer or rapist. I’m not saying that terrorists are good people, I’m just saying that not all terrorists are “Islamists” and we in this country should stop using the words in a nearly interchangable fashion.

  9. PCD says:

    Elendril,

And you are certainly not a person to scold about tolerance. Your intolerance and willingness to smear makes you a perfect example of what you claim to detesst.

  10. Baklava says:

“Islamist” or Islamofacist” are words Elendril that were made to exclusively talk about terrorists in the name of Islam.

Most who are intelligent and careful Elendril try to make the distinction between the average Muslim or practicer of Islam.

Islamist is not the normal practicer. Here’s a good article to read. Oct 25th article on Islamophobia Please don’t bash Daniel Pipes either. He is very knoweledgable and writes with compassion for the average Islamic or Muslim person.

  11. Elendril says:

smearing and bashing?!? When and where did I smear or bash anyone? Who the hell is Daniel Pipes anyway? How did I “bash” him?

  12. Baklava says:

    Calling Islamism the Enemy

    The best definition I’ve seen
    It includes this paragraph:
There is no such thing as a moderate Islamist, for all Islamists share the same long-term goals; they differ only over means. For example, the Justice and Development Party in Turkey is very different from the Taliban in its means, but not so different in its ends. If the party gained full control over Turkey, it could be as dangerous as the Taliban were in Afghanistan.

  13. PCD says:

Elendril, you smear every Christian as an abortion clinic bomber. If you wish to use that standard, I could say as a liberal you support bombing University buildings and killing cops because the Weather Underground did.

  14. Baklava says:

Didn’t mean to upset you Elendril… this – “Please don’t bash Daniel Pipes” was just a request. It wasn’t a statement that you did bash him.

Your question – “When and where did I smear or bash anyone?” can be answered by looking at today’s posts.
    1) “Man you guys are in denial. Scared that “the Architect” might drop your president’s leash?”
    2) “Why don’t you ask Georgie’s dad what he thinks about naming CIA operatives.
    3) and having top WH officials involved in treasonous activity ….”

It is a pattern of people that I find interesting. It happens with people all over the political spectrum. I’m exceptionally sensitive to the people on the left doing it. One thing is clear. No matter who does it they are COMPLETELY UNAWARE that they do it.

  15. Baklava says:

BTW, I find people like Debbie Schlussel and Daniel Pipes who have studied Arabs and muslim people for decades to be very informative. They are a must read if you want to understand how people like me (centrist/conservative) thinks.

Bush has been shown to be to the LEFT of their reasonable ideas and writings. Unfortunately people on the left PAINT Bush as being on the extreme right. That isn’t helpful to the debate. What would be helpful to the debate is if people on the center and right listen to leftists and if people on the left listen to centrists and people on the right.

And trust me when I say that centrists are to the right of most leftists in power. It is ALL about PERSPECTIVE.

  16. Elendril says:

PCD, did you miss the part of my comment about don’t pay attention to the christian, islamic, jewish and pay attention to the “fundamentalist”? I in no way equated “all” Christians with clinic bombers, I stated there are “some” and I gave other examples. Please stop smearing me.

And Baklava, What did George’s dad say about outing undercover operatives? I may have gotten snarky, but I wasn’t bashing or smearing.

  17. PCD says:

Elendril, I paid attention. You mean that Christians that read the Bible and follow their tenets are just potential abortion clinic bombers because they won’t compromise their principles or abandon them so you can party and pass the bill for your fun unto others with a baby paying the ultimate price because of your irresponsibility.

  18. Baklava says:

Fundamentalists are not bad. That is bashing and a smear. See Wikipedia’s definiton which includes the text:
    The fundamentalist phenomenon
Although the term fundamentalism in popular usage sometimes refers derogatorily to any fringe religious group, or to extremist ethnic movements with only nominally religious motivations, the term does have a more precise denotation. “Fundamentalist” describes a movement to return to what is considered the defining or founding principles of the religion. It has especially come to refer to any religious enclave that intentionally resists identification with the larger religious group in which it originally arose, on the basis that fundamental principles upon which the larger religious group is supposedly founded have become corrupt or displaced by alternative principles hostile to its identity.

Anyways. Hope this helps your outlook.

  19. Elendril says:

No, PCD, not at all. I’m saying that there are some people in any given group/religion who take their belief structure to an extreme. These few are the ones who are radical, dangerous, and willing to kill to promote what they believe. My point is that these extremists may come from any religion. I’m not irresponsible, and I do not believe that religion of any sort is a requirement for personal responsiblity. I also do not require you to abandon any principles in order for me to live my life. Why does what I do in my life make you compromise or abandon your principles?
