Via the NYT:
Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-radio host, was charged yesterday with prescription drug fraud and turned himself in to Florida authorities as part of a deal to resolve a lengthy inquiry into whether he improperly obtained painkillers.
Mr. Limbaugh, who is one of the nation’s most popular radio personalities and is heard on nearly 600 stations, turned himself in yesterday afternoon to the Palm Beach County sheriff on a warrant for fraud to conceal information to obtain a prescription. He was released about an hour later on $3,000 bail, the authorities said.
Mr. Limbaugh’s lawyer, Roy Black, said his client and prosecutors in Palm Beach County had reached a settlement in which Mr. Limbaugh would be charged with a single count in connection with allegations that he illegally obtained multiple prescriptions for a drug from more than one doctor.
Let’s hope Rush has gotten or gets the help he needs to help with his addiction to painkillers. And let’s hope that those who have taken delight in his plight also get the help they need so in the future maybe they will be less of a pain in the a– to society and common decency in general.

“And let’s hope that those who have taken delight in his plight also get the help they need so in the future maybe they will be less of a pain in the a– to society and common decency in general.”
Can we instead of his plight take delight in having some of the things he’s said about drug users and criminals applied to him?
Funny thing is, I find this about as interesting as the Katie Couric move to C-BS.
Do I find him hypocritical at times, sure, no more than everyone else that is out there, including Alan Colmes, O’Rielly, Olberman, ect.
But if your wanting to trash Rush for it, you might want to go to DU or KOS where they are probably giddy as school girls at the prom and throwing a party.
Trouble is, this will not affect his show one iota.
He will continue to be a top radio host on the air waves, and this will be nothing but an after thought.
By the way, he will pay his fines and the money he needs to, but how about Air America, when will they give back the money they stole? Hell they have soros backing now, can’t they get rid of their problem with his million dollars backing them now?
Everyone has controversy, and this too will be a small blip in along the road of his career, but if the liberals were hoping to knock Rush out and off the airwaves, they were sadly mistaken.
Again, as I posted for the Katie Couric issue of her move: “Guess we should file this one under..Whatever? Big Wup? Who Cares? Non-Story?”
I guess it depends on where peope take their pleasure, as DU and KOS probably shows they are most likely in an orgy of vitriolic pleasure over this.
For me, if Olberman had the same problem, I still wouldn’t care, and I really can’t stand the man.
*shrugs*
That is just me though…
Rush is a different man these days. I think that his hearing problem and all these drug dilemas are changing him. Not that he can’t change back to his pompus self, but he is different these days. I listened to him on and off since 1997, these days it is more on than off. – Lorica
The libs just love this story. They revel in the misfortunes of conservatives. They can’t get that despite being human and fallible and subject to temptations and weaknesses, conservatives still support high standards and the law and not legislating in a way that enables human shortcomings.
Back in 1988 my brother called to tell me about this guy on the radio.
He told me that this guy was saying things about Rodney King and the LA riots that everyone else in the MSM was afraid to say but something we all knew. So I tuned in.
As a ditto-head since then, Rush does not tell anyone what to do or how to think, as the leftists claim. His success is based on the fact that he echos what every common sense American already believes.
He is not afraid to expose the leftist agenda and remind us of all the things that made this country great. That is why the lefties hate him and I just love him.
It appears he did something dumb. He should pay like anyone else who breaks the law.
But it will not in any way discredit what he believes in.
Mega-dittos!
Rush is an entertainer, paid to give opinions. His opinions have been controversial and provoke much debate. The debate, in turn, has led to broader understanding of complex issues. His popularity suggests he has tapped into the opinions of the ‘average John Q Citizen’ and given voice to an opinion ignored by the MSM.
It should come as no surprise that those who are unable to respond to view of important issues have resorted to personal attacks. Those afraid of the message often disparage the messenger.
you mean he has been lashing out on people while high on drugs how many of his followers have faimly menbers on dope they dont even keep up with or listen to could it be he stands for the right to shame people with his type of problem last time i read up on addiction they have sex problems too. well it is a long fail from a high horse but he is not faimly so we can hope he lands on his feet can’t we myself I dont take advice from addicts i pray for them.
jif – Huh?
The beeeg mistakes leftists make re: Rush are: (1) listeners to his show are stoooopid and/or mind-numbed robots and/or racists/bigots/liars/anti-poor/anti-female/environment ravager/rednecks who have little or no brain, so treat every syllable he utters as gospel and prowl dank, cloudy nights doing his will; and (2) as conservative demi-god, listeners believe he can do no wrong and/or is above the law.
Actually, most of us listen for news we can’t find elsewhere, opinions, viewpoints and (good golly, Miss Molly!) entertainment! As stated above, we tune in and tune out at will. When we don’t hear what we came for, we go elsewhere. Rush isn’t thrust upon us. It’s a choice. Our radios get all frequencies.
As any more than casual listener to his show knows, Rush never asked for special treatment from FL prosecutors. He was being harassed because of his conservative status. When prosecutors offered him the same terms others with addictions had been offered, he took them.
I have not seen or heard a single conservative claim Rush ought not suffer consequences for his actions. But I have read and heard plenty of liberals gloat about his addition and harassment. Sad, sad, sad people, they.
- Rush is a huge on-going thorn in the lefts side, so as usual in their rabid defense of everyones free speech, if you oppose them with little things like exposing their lies, they decide to find someway to take you down. If they didn’t have that agenda, then simply expressing the wish that everyone should be answerable to the law would be enough. Problem is when you look close you find that the only people that some laws seem to apply to just somehow happen to be active outspoken Conservatives. The law hes being skewered over has never before been enforced on another single soul. Funny how that works. Moron leftists.
- Bang
Rush, sounds holier than thou, yet has the same feet of clay as the rest of us. His lying is what I can’t tolerate. Peace
steve will now list all the lies that he has recorded from his constant listening to the Rush Limbaugh program. Go ahead, steve…
In reacting to this story, we see the bias and deceit of the MSM with their arrested lie. We see the deranged lefties dancing in the streets. Maybe we will get lucky and have fewer lefties to deal with and to carry on our backs.
I for one want Steve(fn) to list everything Rush is lying about. Does anyone else want Steve(fn) to list Rush’s lie’s? Because if Rush has been lying that will make me listen to Al Franken and Randi Rhoades on Air America we know they will not lie. Right Steve(fn)?
I’m no Rush Limbaugh fan…ever since he made the ill-advised and controversial racist statements about blacks in the NFL.
His brother David is OK, though…
I’m not sure what you mean camojack (and I listend to all of his McNabb comments) but I’ll just respectfully disagree with you an hope that you’ll use the “racist” word a little more accurately in the future.
Is this a time warp or what? The headline seems to be attached to an old article from last year. The current story is that the DA or State’s attorney has backed the charge off and declined prosecution on condition Limbaugh continues treatment and testing to prove he’s drug free (which he’s been doing voluntarily), and the worst they could charge him with was one bottle, forty pain pills…when other DA’s are declining to prosecute lefty celebs for proven red handed recreational Cocaine use. Becoming addicted to a prescription painkiller that was legitimately prescribed for a real medical condition is a tragedy. Going out on your own volition to buy cocaine for the pure druggy pleasure of it is a criminal decision, and a bad one. That’s a significant distinction. The State’s attorney also tried to steal private medical records without probable cause, on a fishing expedition…but that’s okay, because they were going after a right wing gadfly. Sure it is. So all you lefties, bring us your medical records and let us go through them at our leisure, and we’ll tell you in a few days if you broke the law.
Excellent points, Doug in Coloradoexico.
