Scare America to declare bankruptcy?

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on September 13, 2006 at 2:14 pm

The popular lefty blog Think Progress is saying yes:

Air America Radio will announce a major restructuring on Friday, which is expected to include a bankruptcy filing, three independent sources have told ThinkProgress.

Air America could remain on the air under the deal, but significant personnel changes are already in the works. Sources say five Air America employees were laid off yesterday and were told there would be no severance without capital infusion or bankruptcy. Also, Air America has ended its relationship with host Jerry Springer.

The spin:

The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America. Indeed, many of the country’s most successful and widely-syndicated progressive talk hosts — Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller, for instance — aren’t even associated with Air America.

Is this another example of spinning a negative into a positive or what?

Maybe it’s Bush’s fault.

Update I: AAR is denying the rumor.

Update II: Brian Maloney has several updates to this story – keep checking that link for updates.

The Radio Equalizer, Brian Maloney, has been all over this.

    2. libertarianobserver says:

      OF COURSE it’s Bush’s fault.

    3. What is the use of “creating something that did not exist” if they were unable to maintain it?

And just how strong is it if the premier network files bankruptcy?

    4. Baklava says:

That evil corporation giving no severance to the fired employees….

    5. Dana says:

Given how terrible and unpopular the left says President Bush is, you’d think that Err America would have gobs of listeners. Maybe President Bush is just a more popular and better president than they say, and thus it would be George Bush’s fault that they are failing. :)

    6. forest hunter says:

Have we mentioned the frays *progressive talk* once in every sentence as we sail way on the mothership lollipop? Why yes you did, now wipe the slobber off your chins and go spend Georgey Sorespots bucks on some other equally fruitless and factually challenged misadventure. And no you can’t have any more green stuff! Or white stuff either……..

    7. Marshall Art says:

“creating something that did not exist” and soon won’t exist again. The epitomy of poetic justice.

Hmmm…that damn right wing…there they go using there brains again.

    9. Ryan says:

Ed Schultz.. haha… his best days were spent doing play-by-play for North Dakota State football.

    10. Mwalimu Daudi says:

A radio program that screams a bankrupt political philosophy has nothing to offer its listeners anymore except – bankruptcy itself.

Yep – sounds like Air Amerika/MSM all right! :-?

Think Progressive … sounds like an oxymoron. Or is that “just a bunch of morons”?

    11. Mwalimu Daudi says:

Here is hoping that ABC, NBC, CBS, al-CNN, (P)MSNBC, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post. Boston Globe, etc follows suit – and soon!

    12. Drewsmom says:

Yeah, and they also owe all the money from the incident earlier in last year and folks say, that are owed that money, that they want that money excluded from the bankruptsy or something like that, seems like there was fraud involved, wish they had canned Randi Rhodes, she is advocating Bush’s assination on the air, God I detest that woman and her squeeky voice.:d

    13. Kevin says:

They think we will seize upon the idea that Air America is failing because it’s unpopular? No way. It’s just another example of how Democrats can’t handle money. Let’s not give them America’s pursestring.

    14. Great White Rat says:

Guess they can’t scam any more inner city charities out of their money…curse that evil Chimpy McHitlerburton….:((

    15. J Rob says:

So, no Boys and Girls Clubs or senior centers have offered to “loan” them money yet? How odd.

    16. Big Bang Hunter says:

      - With the PlameGate Liberal scam going south faster than a prom dress in a ‘57 Chevy, the demise of Err America (All hate speech, all the time), and the Chaffee win in RI., I make it BushCo 43 – Moonbats 0. I also include the “Ill-Liberal” Lamont win in that, since Lieberman will roll over him like a John Deer bulldozer.

      - After all their hard work in establishing their rep as “soft on terror”, “cut and run in Iraq”, Islamofascist loving, America hating, idiotarians, it seems like the only thing the “progg-gressives” can win are loaded phoney polls. Go DemoClods.

      - Bang **==

    17. G Monster says:

I can understand why Gloria Wise Boys/Girls Club was afraid to ask for their money back. Scroll down and read #43 in the court documents. The pipe wrench, head in a door threats to the guy that sued them, because they wrote him a bad check for a million dollars.
