Misc. Thursday night links

Some news/info for your perusal:

—- Columnist Jason Whitlock, who was was fearlessly outspoken when the Imus controversy was heating up, has another piece written on the issue here, where he condemns Rutgers center Kia Vaughn for suing Imus, and slams Rutgers women’s basketball coach Vivian Stringer for promoting the victimhood mentality.

—- ST reader Marshall Art has started his own blog. Make sure to visit it and tell him hello! I see his comments sections are active, so that means he must be getting under the skin of a few lefties ;) I’ll be adding his blog to my “Reader blogs” section tonight.

—- A few months ago, I was proud to help spread the news about an upcoming second addition to ST reader Justin Thibault’s family. I’m even more proud to report today that little Palmer Thibault has just found out that he is going to have a baby brother :)

—- Jenna Bush, one of the President’s two daughters, has gotten engaged. I haven’t even attempted to visit the lefty blogs to see what kind of nasty remarks have been made, and it’s probably for the best that I don’t try. Best wishes to Ms. Bush and her fiancee.

—- Please keep Peru residents in your prayers. They have suffered a devastating earthquake, which has killed at least 450 people. Please also continue to think of and pray for the six trapped Utah miners and their anxious, worried families. Rescue teams are now in day ten of rescue efforts.

— Today was the 30 year anniversary of the death of the King of Rock -n- Roll. Read about the neat way his only child, Lisa Marie (who is a singer as well), has honored it. Here’s an interesting factoid: 76 babies have been named after Elvis in Queensland over the last 30 years. Sweet!

Finally – in memory, a video from Elvis’ 1973 Hawaii concert, of a song trilogy that gives me chills everytime I hear him sing it. This was around the time when Elvis – in my view – still ‘had it.’ Concerts he performed in later years he was known to have forgotten some of the words to his songs, and didn’t perform with nearly the spirit he had in years past – primarly due to all the prescription drugs that obviously had taken their toll on him.

He had a spectacular band.

My dad was a huge Elvis fan, so naturally as a little girl I got to hear many Elvis songs, but didn’t see many of the movies (dad never did care too much for his movies). I was less than 2 when he did that Hawaii concert, and 6 and a half when he passed away, and believe it or not, remember seeing the news on TV about Elvis’ passing.

He may be gone, but he is most certainly not forgotten.

RIP, E.
