Bill at INDC Journal has posted a moving story about 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was killed by a sniper in Iraq on April 29th. As you’ll see from the story, 1st Lt. Manion’s heroics started early on his life, and continued on the battlefield. He was well-liked and respected by his fellow Marines, as well as members of the Iraqi army, who he fought alongside and who named a combat outpost after him.
RIP, 1st Lt. Manion. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

I’m glad you put that up ST. I read the story and almost emailed it to you. From what I read, 1st Lt. Travis Manion was a great person.
There are no words that can express the gratitude and respect I have for the men and women who serve, and those who pay the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is an inscription on the police officer’s memorial that was a quote from the first G. Bush when he dedicated it.
It says “It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived”
It is just as valid for our heroes in the military.
