Jesse MacBeth admits in federal court that he is a liar

Remember back in May of 2006, when numerous bloggers were digging into the history to of Jesse MacBeth’s story in which he claimed to be an Iraq war vet who was ‘pushed’ by his fellow soldiers to commit attrocities against the Iraqi people?

He admitted today in federal court that his story was false:

A Washington man, whose claims to have slaughtered civilians as a U.S. Army Ranger in Iraq were seen by millions on YouTube, admitted in federal court in Seattle today that he was a fake and a liar.

Jesse Adam Macbeth, 23, pleaded guilty to charges he faked his war record.

“He was in the Army for 40 days before he was kicked out of boot camp for being unfit,” said U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan. “He was never in Iraq.”

Macbeth’s story of killing men and women as they left a Baghdad mosque included claims that he was a U.S. Army Ranger and had received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in combat in Iraq.

His interview was translated into Arabic and distributed in the Middle East, said the U.S. attorney.

“Macbeth’s lies fueled hostility to our servicemen in Iraq and here at home,” Sullivan said.

[...]

Macbeth, the phony U.S. soldier who claimed to have committed atrocities, was sentenced to five months in jail.

He told the judge today he wanted to apologize to “the real American heroes.”

He said he lied about his military record in order to get money and treatment from the VA hospital.

Finally, this sorry story has come to an end. Unfortunately, the types of anti-troops/hate Bush propaganda that Jesse MacBeth and his defenders (and others like them) have perpetuated -and are still perpetuating – on the Internet and in the media continue to embolden the enemy.

  1. It’s not surprising: The same “Bush lied, people died” types end up being the biggest damned liars in all of their smears against the administration, the troops, and just about anything right and good about America.

    Thanks for this!

To the Left, this story has the same merit as the Dan Rather “National Guard” story. They don’t care that the story was made up; to them the “spirit” of the story is accurate. For people who supposedly “care” about the “truth” this is another blantant example of how dangerous and twisted the Left is to this country.

I think we should castrate this guy to ensure that his stupid gene is never passed on. Any children he has fathered should be taken from him and educated away from their father to minimize the effect of their father’s stupidity. – Lorica

More “fake but accurate.” Or the newest apologia from the lying left, “It’s the right narrative, just the facts were wrong.”

After all, everybody knows MacBeth’s story was correct in the larger context, right? So what if the piddling little details were not entirely, 100% accurate? As the Ratherites say, “Why doesn’t anyone look at the greater narrative?”

I can’t work up any ire, or even irritation at this anymore. These people are beyond parody. They also are beyond decency and integrity. But they are of course right, naturally. No facts will ever stand in the way of their essential rightness. When you’re sufficiently suffused with self admiration you can never be wrong. And even when you are wrong, it’s just more evidence of how right you actually are. These people are like the Communist sympathizers of the sixties and seventies, for whom nothing could ever convince them the USSR was not a socialist utopia. In this case nothing will ever convince them the US is not a fascist dictatorship, held in power through the vile brutality of our abused, victimized, atrocity committing troops, who are simultaneously victims and oppressors.

Pitiful, glad he went to the slammer.
Watched dan rather on larry king the other night, that man is so bitter. He knows the documents were fake but he is still out there saying this had not been proved — is he on major drugs, or what?

We are at war, even though our Congress-without-a-backbone has not had the courage to declare it. This sort of action is treason, and it should merit the standard punishment for treason: either death or banishment. In this case, I think we could simply strip him of his citizenship and cast him loose upon the world, a man without citizenship anywhere. Then be very, very sure he never can return to the US again.
