Seeing in that the Campaign ‘08 season so far has been somewhat depressing, I thought ya’ll would get a chuckle reading this story about Hillary pretending to be a flight attendant:
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton welcomed her traveling press corps aboard her campaign plane Wednesday with a humorous riff on the standard flight attendant speech familiar to commercial air travelers.
“Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and welcome aboard the maiden flight of Hil Force One,” Clinton said over the plane’s intercom as it taxied down the runway en route from Las Vegas to Reno, Nev.
“My name is Hillary and I am so pleased to have most of you on board,” she said. “FAA regulations prohibit the use of any cell phones, Blackberries or wireless devices that may be used to transmit a negative story about me.
“In a few minutes, I am going to switch off the ‘Fasten Your Seat Belt’ sign. However, I’ve learned lately that things can get awfully bumpy when you least expect it—so you might want to keep those seat belts fastened.
“And in the event of an unexpected drop in poll numbers, this plane will be diverted to New Hampshire.
“If you look out from the right, you will see an America saddled with tax cuts for the wealthiest and a war without end. If you look out from the left, you will see an America with a strong middle class at home and a strong reputation in the world.
“Once we’ve reached cruising altitude, we’ll be offering in-flight entertainment: my stump speech.
“Once again, thank you for joining us on Hil Force One. We know you have choices when you fly, and so we are grateful that you chose the plane with the most experienced crew. And so we are grateful that you chose the plane with the most experienced candidate.”
The video is here.
As I wrote to my friend Ed, who drew my attention to this story, I can see Bill Clinton making some crack about the “Mile High Club” in the background under his breath. ![]()

What she didn’t point out:
* Hil Force One only has a left wing.
* Of course, the inflight meal will be waffles.
* And the main reason to keep your seat belts fastened is that the plane may lurch violently left or right depending on the poll numbers at any given time.
Good ones GWR!
Since Hillary is invoking LBJ lately, and giving AF One jokes, I’ll relate the LBJ/AF1 story I know. My Dad knew one of the pilots back when LBJ was in office. LBJ would wander around AF1 in his undershorts, baggy boxers, and had earned the dubious nickname of “bull nuts” from the crew, for obvious reasons.
Anyway, it apparently was beneath the dignity of LBJ to talk directly with the peon who was serving as steward, he had to call the aircraft commander (pilot) and tell him what he wanted and have the pilot relay it to the steward (hmmmm…notice another similarity to Hillary? Disrespect for military and using them as servants?). So one day, he actually called the steward directly. The intercom buzzes, the steward hits the talk button and says “Well, what’s ol’bull nuts want this time?” After a few seconds of silence, LBJ’s voice growls out “Another steward when we get back to Andrews!”
Aw lordy, Severian! That’s priceless! Thanks!
Actually it was “Another $%&*(# steward when we get back to Andrews.”
Heh, I put the word expletive in angle brackets and the s/w just didn’t post that at all.
i saw the video on fox this morning – just another staged “hill is actually human and has a sense of humor ……no really….she is human…we swear” clips
Yup, sodaboy’s right. This wasn’t some off-the-cuff humor. This was carefully staged to show how the Hildebeest is really just a regular gal…Ms. Laughs. They’re hoping the impression subconsciously sinks in with the voters.
The real Hillary, of course, is the foul-tempered shrew that benning highlighted in the comments here a couple of weeks ago.
Good ones, GWR and Severian.
To actually get the opening angle bracket to work, you need to type < instead of <. You can use the closing >
I just watched the video. That has got to be one of the worst campaign stunts I have ever seen. Simply awful.
