You know the teams. Now make your picks. ST reader William Teach has already made his prediction today:
Big Blue by 2. Scores in the 30’s.
Me? I’ll abstain from making anymore football predictions. So far I think I’ve gotten about 10 % of my post-season picks correct
I’m just going to sit back and enjoy with a bittersweet feeling the last game of the pro football season. Sunday afternoons get a little boring once the season is over.
Update 10:05 PM: NC Cop’s Giants win in a HUGE upset – 17-14!!

As much as it would be fun to see the Giants pull out a stunning victory this afternoon, unless they put pressure on Brady early and often, the tools he has will be too much to overcome. Either that, or if Manning can sustain long time-consuming drives that keeps Brady & Co. on the bench, the game could be close at the end to pull out the upset.
What ever happens, the Giants can hold their heads high with the run they made to get here by schooling the Cowboys (boo hoo T.O) and the Packers. The Patriots can take nothing for granted until the clock strikes .00
I’m picking the Giants just because they aren’t the Patriots. I can’t support a team caught cheating.
And it would be great to see back to back Manning Super Bowl wins (Peyton won last year).
Go Giants!!!
Big Blue!
My brain says the Patriots. Everything else in me is rooting hard for the Giants.
Just this once, I hope my brain is wrong.
Patriots. As an Eagles fan how could I ever root for the Giants?
*shudder*
No matter who wins or loses, thank God we do not have to suffer through John Madden calling the game. Though, it does suck that Fox broadcasts in 720p, not 1080i.
60 FPS does not suck, especially if your TV’s native resolution is 720p like most TVs out there.
BTW, Pats 63, Giants 13
There’s 3 of the Giants’ 13.
Giants 3
Pats 0
6:13 left in the 1st
End of 1
Giants 3
Pats 0
Pats with a 2nd and goal from the 1-foot line when we start the 2nd.
The over isn’t looking too good right now; not even 2 full possessions in the 1st quarter to set the Super Bowl record for fewest possessions in the 1st.
14:57 left in the 2nd
Pats 7
Giants 3
Defensive struggle, at the half:
Pats 7
Giants 3
I’m still trying to figure out how the Giants are playing “great on both sides of the ball.” Great on defense, missed opportunities on offense. Gotta love the halftime analysis.. Puke.
I hate Super Bowl halftime shows, but I guess I should be thankful that it’s not some teeny bopper junk. I want to see an Iron Maiden/Judas Priest halftime show.
That would rock, Ryan.
Pam Oliver’s first sideline report was a little too speedy. I found myself asking, “What?” Then again most sideline reports are useless; they’ve been that way since the best one ever – the Suzy Kolber/Joe Namath fiasco.
Useless? They’re only useless when it’s cold out or the Goose is doing it.
Man – I’ve never seen the pressure on Brady this season like I’ve seen tonight. The Giants are giving them a heck of a game.
After 3:
Pats 7
Giants 3
It’s all about the winning. 15 minutes until Don Shula has a coronary as the Pats join the 1972 Dolphins and the 1929 Packers as the only undefeated teams in NFL history (the 1929 Packers went 12-0-1 against the NFL).
11:05 left in regulation:
Giants 10
Pats 7
Note on that ‘29 Packer team; they did lose to the University of Memphis Tigers 16-6 after the end of the NFL season.
Touchdown Moss!
2:42 left in regulation:
Pats 14
Giants 10
Touchdown Buress (DAMMIT!)
35 seconds left:
Giants 17
Pats 14
Oh. My. Gosh.
GAME OVER! Shula happier than anything.
LOL … this was one of the best SB’s evah!
Unless you had money on my picks, that is. 0-3 on the main 3 (against the spread, over/under, straight-up), 4-7 on the props.
Fortunately, I’m too smart to actually put my money on them.
My dear ST. You really need to take advantage of your geographic location in this fine land of ours and join the NASCAR Nation. You will never again be bored on Sunday afternoon.
I recommend you begin your journey by visiting Restrictor Plate This often. We welcome the curious and those who have yet to embrace the skill, thrill, and drama of all things NASCAR. And have a whole lot of good clean fun while doing so.
(As an additional benefit of watching the sport, I am oft informed that more than a few of the drivers in NASCAR are deemed not unattractive by a multitude of women possessing fine character and demanding taste. I’ll defer to them on this matter, as despite my location in the area named after St. Francis of Assisi I don’t live that close to San Francisco!)
NY Wins!
I got my wish.
WOO HOO!!!!
Congrats, Giants…and NC Cop!!
Woooooo!
Been picking them all post season to win by 4, they would win by 3. Went with 2, and they won by….3!
WOW! What a game….
Holy mackeroli! I predicted NE by 4…touchdowns.
Missed it by that much!
Say Anything has a good post about a patriot…who was rooting for the Giants.
Has NC Cop stopped dancing on tables in celebration of the Giants winning?
Jerry, Restrictor plates suck! Also, what they call stock cars aren’t. I want real stock cars from the 60s and 70s. I want to see cars race that you can buy in the showroom.
Table dancing?
More to the point, has the g-string come off yet?
Sev, I hope NC Cop is laughing with us on this, although I’m sure some of the Distaff members of the viewing audience wouldn’t mind a NC Cop “full Monty” moment.
PCD, they stopped being stock the moment GM stopped making RWD midsized cars (or you could say it was when GM stopped putting 350s in those midsized cars).
Game over. Super Bowl 42 Over. Giants win! The Giants win!
The best: Eli eludes Pat’s D, finds Tyree, who makes what Troy Aikman calls a basketball catch. In Giants lore this will now always be simply The Catch . . . wounded Plaxico Burris open in the end zone, Eli finds him . . . Giants 17, Pats 14 . . . Giants D in last 35 seconds, knocking Brady on his butt, and forcing him into Hail Mary Territory . . . Coach Coughlin running onto the field to call a t/o . . .
Buck and Aikman just about perfect . . . that Bud commercial with the doggie coaching the Clydesdale colt into the big time . . . Jordin Sparks nailing the anthem . . . Tom Petty sounding good . . . Strahan rooting the Giants’ offense down the field on that last drive, yelling and hollering . . . the officials swallowing their whistles (thank you, Mike Carey and crew, for not getting in the way of the game).
The worst: Bellichek, displaying his usual poor sportsmanship–running off the field before the symbolic last kneeldown . . . that car commercial with the grill in the guy’s bed . . . Danica Patrick! You’re an auto racer, get outta the gutter with godaddy.com and stick to your sport. Maybe some day you’ll actually win a race.
Parade in New York City Tuesday.
Pitchers and catchers report in 10 days.
GIANTS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SUPER BOWL 42 CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
As soon as the game ended I went screaming and dancing into the street, only to look up and see another guy dancing in the street four houses up!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
You couldn’t have written this season any better. Giants were underdogs throughout most of the season and every playoff game. Eli has made it and I am happy for him. I’ll be the first to admit I was one of his biggest critics, and Coughlins, but they have proven me wrong!!!!!!!
I’m going to get a t-shirt made up that says 18-1. Most people may not realize what it means but Giants fans will.
I love that story about the disabled vet that has been the Giants inspiration. He will also get a Super Bowl ring!!!!
What a great game, season, year, etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steveegg, take all of this with a grain of salt, I’m just having a little fun. NY fans haven’t had much to cheer about lately so it’s a GREAT feeling for us.
PCD:
It’s either restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega or tear down the racing surface and rebuild it with far less slope. At the speeds today’s cars would generate (230+ MPH last time someone ran a few test laps at Talladega without one, which was three or four years ago), not only would the driver’s lives be in far more peril than they are now in the event of a wreck, the tires would disintegrate. And Goodyear’s not about to build one that could handle it.&nbasp; As to the “there’s no stock in stock cars” argument, that ship sailed the first time Richard Petty rolled into Daytona with that 1969 Plymouth Superbird in tow.
Thank you for tuning into this edition of NASCAR News and Views. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blogging.
Jerry, my comment still stands. Oh, in your NASCAR history, check out the 87-88 T-birds. Faster than the Superbird but with out the wing and a smaller motor!
