Upside down, boy you turn me …

Ed Morrissey has your LOL post of the day.  Well, it’s funny in one way, and not so much so once you get to the end of it to see what the upside down flag on the Obama Invesco Field credentials badge (for anyone planning on seeing the speech in person) is reminiscent of.

The denials by the DNCC and the Obama campaign are especially priceless.   Here was the Obama campaign’s lame excuse:

Matt Chandler with the Obama campaign says the flag is not upside down. He says it is a stylized flag designed to blend the stars on Senator Obama’s shirt with the flag blowing in the wind.

That’s almost – almost – as good as the intial denials about Obama playing the race card with his “I don’t look like the presidents on those dollar bills” remark:

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the senator was not referring to race.

“What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn’t get here after spending decades in Washington,” Gibbs said Thursday. “There is nothing more to this than the fact that he was describing that he was new to the political scene. He was referring to the fact that he didn’t come into the race with the history of others. It is not about race.”

Both the DNC and the Obama campaign: Counting on the American people to be too stupid to see through their shameless attempts at spinning the truth.

Make sure to read Ed’s post in full.

Update – 4:42 PM: From the “I Get Emails” department: Calm down, outraged lefties.  I’m not questioning the O-man’s patriotism with the comparison of the badge to Kerry’s “New Soldier” book cover.  Just pointing out, like Ed did, how it’s an interesting sidenote considering Kerry’s anti-war upside down flag history and the fact that he was the Dem nominee in 2004.

Obama probably had no idea what the badges would look like.  Just a hunch, but I think he’s got better things to do than proof the way credentials badges will look. I just think it’s stupid that neither the Obama campaign nor the DNCC will admit to what was clearly a mistake.   That flag is upside down But then again, considering the flaps over the DNC using stock photos of foreign soldiers on their website in an attempt to show support for US troops, I can understand why they’d like this flag faux pas to simply disappear.

Next think you know, either the Obama campaign or the DNCC (or both) will say that the flag is supposed to represent a cape around Obama’s shoulders on which he, of course, carries the weight of the world – that is, when he’s not sweatlessly lifting weights in Berlin.
