McCain campaign responds to the Obama campaign’s latest legal threat

Team McCain issued this statement earlier tonight:

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 Spokesman Ben Porritt issued the following statement in response to the Obama campaign’s letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey:

“After a week of shifting stories and clumsy corrections regarding Barack Obama’s connections to ACORN, the Obama campaign resorted to their now-customary heavy handed tactic of attempting to criminalize political discourse. Today’s outrageous letter to Attorney General Mukasey and Special Prosecutor Dannehy at the Justice Department asking for a special prosecutor to investigate Senator McCain and Governor Palin’s public statements about ACORN’s record of fraudulent voter registrations (including in this week’s Presidential debate) is absurd. It is a typical time-worn Washington attempt to criminalize political differences. For someone who promises ‘change,’ it is certainly only more of the same.

“The letter’s request that the Department of Justice investigate ‘recent partisan Republican activities throughout the country’ is almost a parody of the Obama campaign’s attempt to intimidate their political opponents. In case Sen. Obama’s lawyer did not notice, we are in the midst of a political campaign, not a coronation, and the alleged criminal activity he calls ‘recent partisan Republican activities’ are what the rest of us call campaign speeches and debates. All of this is unfortunately reminiscent of the Obama campaign’s recent creation of a ‘truth squad’ of Missouri prosecutors and sheriffs to ‘target’ people who criticize Sen. Obama. Rest assured that, despite these threats, the McCain-Palin campaign will continue to address the serious issue of voter registration fraud by ACORN and other partisan groups, and compliance by states with the Help America Vote Act’s requirement of matching new voter registrations with state data bases to prevent voter fraud.”

    1. Neo says:

I think it is important to separate “voter registration fraud” from “voter fraud.”

ACORN and the Obama campaign are very careful with their words.

Calling this “voter fraud” gives them a chance to muddy the waters, as there hasn’t been any “voter fraud” this election cycle (except perhaps those same day register and absentee voters), at least not on a massive scale .. yet.

On the other hand, it is now somewhat clear that there has been massive “voter registration fraud”.

    2. Neo, Palestra.net has documented actual voter fraud, not just registration fraud, in Ohio. The New Mexico Republican Party claims it has proof of voter fraud in the Democratic primary there, but I’ve not seen it yet.

(However, the Hillary fans were screaming about the Obamatons’ tactics during the primary. I thought they were paranoid then, but now I think they were on to something.)

I think it’s really really important to separate walking into a bank with a gun and a ski mask from bank robbery. 8-|

Let’s see. They have an actual person on Obama’s campaign , that recieves a paycheck, caught in this VOTER FRAUD. Caught red handed, and Obama has the audacity to alert law enforcement groups, and cry foul?

What in hell is going on here?

Now Colin Powell is miffed at how Obama is being treated? For Gods sake. Has he seen how others have been treated? McCain and Palin dare to bring up truths. Actual, factual issues about Obama’s life, and associations….and this is being mean, and racist?

This is by far thee most bizzare crap I have ever seen in my life.

    5. I’d like to ask that slimy ACORN guy who’s been on Fox recently and says “it’s registration, NOT voter fraud.”

Um, Mr. ACORN dude, how exactly does actual voter fraud occur? If there isn’t a fraudulent registration to begin with, a person can’t very well cast a fraudulent vote, can they? You can’t cast a fraudulent vote if there’s no fraudulent registration. So, a fraudulent registration is the groundwork for a fraudulent vote. And, the reason there’s not widespread VOTE fraud is cause, guess what? We haven’t VOTED yet. The vote fraud comes when we actually vote. So, your fraudulent registrations are paving the way for fraudulent votes. Are you still going to sit there and say, well, it’s just the registrations?

It’s true! It’s just that one precedes the other!

Coming up next, Obama pushes for legal action against the military for killing terrorists.
