Ed Morrissey’s got the details on an explosive story that is garnering a lot of attention in the conservative blogosphere regarding a January 2008 interview Obama did with the SF Chronicle in which he made some interesting revelations about his energy plans which – had they gotten more attention at the time – might have given Hillary the extra ammo she needed to win the nomination. The money quotes?
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
And:
So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

So does this mean that Joe Biden slipped up and told the truth about the Obama-Biden ticket’s opposition to coal or has Obama flip flopped?
Fortunately, the McCain-Palin campaign is already launching volleys over this comment, with Gov. Palin bringing it up at her stops in Ohio today. If they really want to take advantage of the remarks, they should run ads in PA, OH, and CO informing voters of Obama’s (earlier or still current?) position.

I have seen many posts in the blogosphere this weekend indicating Obama has an intention to bankrupt the coal industry. Not sure what value it has in terms of Tuesday November 4, but it certainly could land on the pile of major reasons to oppose Barack Obama. Add my name to the list of those amazed if Obama is elected with the quantity of information available that renders the idea of voting for him as something bordering on insanity.
I suppose those who vote for him could claim they are voting in their own best interest or plead extreme mental defect or simply be grossly misinformed.
There are three, and only three, mature technologies for producing electricity in substantial amounts: fossil fuel combustion, hydroelectric and nuclear.
Unfortunately, the Lord did not see fit to distribute sufficient river resources for enough hydroelectric plants to power the whole country; even if He had, our friends on the left would be screaming about all the poor little fishies who’d have their habitat’s changed.
And while nuclear is certainly available, our friends on the left will scream bloody murder about that one, as well.
Which leaves fossil fuel combustion. Wind and solar are interesting, but they are not suitable to produce electricity in the amounts needed.
So, where does that leave us? Cold, hungry, in the dark, reverting to the seventeenth century again. Is that what our friends on the left really want? Or are they all like our former Vice President and Nobel laureate, who decries everyone else’s energy use, while he needs a whole substation to run his stuff?
What amazes me is that it takes an individual researcher to bring this stuff out. Where have the McCain and RNC research teams been? Mongolia?
This illustrates why I don’t like early voting: too much can come out at the last minute that’s material to one’s choice.
“Add my name to the list of those amazed if Obama is elected with the quantity of information available that renders the idea of voting for him as something bordering on insanity”
That’s just it Stanford Matthews, the quantity of information is minimal. The MSM tells the people NOTHING of these kind of things and when someone actually breaks the MSM blockade their life is drug across the pages of America and destroyed. If this election had another week to go, more may come out and damage him but unless these actually hit commercials in the swing states, it will have no impact.
Yes but if Barry loses, these same people are going to hack him into tiny bits with all of this. Mark my words. – Lorica
“This illustrates why I don’t like early voting: too much can come out at the last minute that’s material to one’s choice.” That’s exactly why Obama was such a big booster of early voting. You don’t get do-overs.
The McCain campaign and the RNC Trust need to turn this into a commercial and air it in every coal-producing state immediately.
Not “if,” but “when.” Have faith, Young Jedi.
I stand corrected.

Micheal Steele said on FOX last night, “Wake up America and pull the Kool-aid IV out of your arm. He is telling you in his own words what he wants to do.”
Barrack not only wants to spread Joe the Plumbers wealth around, he wants to spread America’s wealth around. He will tax Americans “carbon credit” and send that wealth to third world countries. Buying there carbon credits.
This will not help those countries any more than Lyndon Johnson’s welfare plan ended poverty in the U.S.
MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON US.
VOTE FOR CAPITALISM! THE HOPE OF THE WORLD!
