For the last week or so, there have been no shortage of leftie blogs (examples here) complaining about how Obama supposedly hasn’t been throwing “any bones” to the “progressive movement” in terms of his cabinet/admin staff picks.
While I’d disagree with that assessment, I’d just like to remind the left to remain calm, and remember what Vice President-elect Joe Biden cautioned us about a couple of weeks before the election:
“And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
In other words lefties, give Barry Oh! the full four years to work his “mandate” magic before you start assessing whether or not his decisions have been right or wrong. You’ve already given him a pass for the last two years full of misleading statements and lies that have come from both him and his campaign, so what’s another four years added to that?

But, what happens when President-elect Barry’s snake oil of Keynesian economics wears thin? What happens when inflation rears it’s ugly head? How about a spike in interest rates? And do not forget that there WILL be gas/oil shortages. Do you remember the odd-even days of purchasing gas? How about gas siffening? Those young whippersnappers that voted for Barry will then understand what we tried to warn them about The One.
Well, you know as his policies don’t produce the results he wants, he will continue to blame Bush and then proclaim that he needs ANOTHER four years to undo all the damage.
I only wish that were true Mark. I’m afraid when all of those things happen the media will circle the wagons around THEIR candidate. They will produce a few “experts” that will blame it all on Bush. They got Obama elected, they’re not about to let the chosen one take any heat for any mistakes he makes.
But good news for whom? The Messiah gets to burnish His “bipartisan” credentials (which is all that He cares about in this case). If things continue to go well in Iraq the Messiah will hog the credit; if things go badly He will blame Gates (and by extension the Bush administration).
Asking Gates to stay on as DefSec reminds me of certain Canadians who boast loudly of the moral superiority of their dysfunctional socialized health care system and how preferable it is to the evil American one – and then slink across the border to get medical treatment in the USA. Is it not time that Democrats either turn away from their treasonous activities of the past eight years or pay a political price?
If Gates has an ounce of sense he would do the following. He would make it a precondition of staying on at Defense that the Messiah Himself – and not one of His satraps – must publically state that the policy of the US under His administration is victory in Iraq. This would amount to admitting that He was wrong, and would be a massive blow to His titanic ego. Anything short of that means that Gates is being set up as the fall guy if things go wrong and he would be a fool to take it.
Alas, Gates might turn out to be the typical Washington-centric Republican who gets his jollies out of turning the other cheek until it is slapped off. No wonder they got pulverized in 2006 and 2008 and are on course for yet another licking in 2010.
