Figures (via GP):
The nation’s largest federation of labor organizations has promised to directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess.
In a memo sent out on Thursday, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney outlined the blueprint for how the union conglomerate would step up recess activities on health care reform and other topics pertinent to the labor community. The document makes clear that Obama allies view the town hall forums as ground zero of the health care debate. It also uses the specter of the infamous 2000 recount “Brooks Brothers” protest to rally its members to the administration’s side.
“The principal battleground in the campaign will be town hall meetings and other gatherings with members of Congress in their home districts,” reads the memo. “We want your help to organize major union participation to counter the right-wing “Tea-Party Patriots” who will try to disrupt those meetings, as they’ve been trying to do to meetings for the last month. …
(Remember the hooligans – many of them Republican Congressional staff – who harassed Florida vote counters in 2000? We can’t let that happen again!).”
The President implored his minions to get involved, and they have responded.
Ladies and gents, the real attempts at “mob rule” are getting ready to begin.
You know they keep bringing up the Florida recounts…. wasn’t it Al Gore who only wanted his districts recounted?? George Bush argued that it was unfair to only recount Dem controlled districts without recounting all districts. All the Supreme Court did was tell the Florida Supreme Court to follow their own law. How deceived are these people, to be constantly bringing up something that when is truly exposed, only makes them look stupid. – Lorica
Yep, the “real” mobs are getting ready to make their collective appearance at the townhalls. These mobs are ok with the MSM, but “mobs” on the right are seen as a threat to what is becoming the new status quo.
I seem to recall liberals like Obama copping the “dissent is the highest form of patriotism” attitude not too long ago. Funny how that changes.
I’m not likely to ever go to a townhall meeting or some such, but whether or not I do, I will not be intimidated into keeping my mouth shut. I will not be violent or hateful, but I will express my opinions freely as the Constitution says I can.
As I said elsewhere on the site, I don’t fear terrorists like al Qaeda. Why the hell would I fear chumps like Obama?!
On top of that, Gore was the one that went whining to the Supreme Court in the first place. Bush seemed more content to let a statewide recount play out. Gee, I wonder why.
It’s amazing that people are dumb enough to believe that Bush was the one trying to cheat the recount and get the courts to hand him victory. The facts are pretty blatant. If for no other reason (though there were certainly plenty), Gore’s actions and attitude during the recount showed how grossly unfit and undeserving he was and is of being president.

Bring. It. On…
There will be violence now, Democrat Party mobs always “bring” it.
Actually, it’s completely understandable that the leftists think the Tea Parties and the opposition to socialized medicine are some sort of sinister coordinated efforts to embarrass Obama.
I can explain it in one word: projection.
When the left wants to gin up some publicity on some issue, what do they do? They’ll put in a call to ACORN, or SEIU, or Code Pink. Maybe they’ll ask George Soros for a check so David Axelrod can bus in one of his Rent-A-Mobs to show up outside someone’s home or business.
But what NEVER happens for the left is that ordinary citizens, without being paid for their time and without prior instruction, band together spontaneously to make their voices heard. Think about it…whether it’s a pro-abortion rally, an anti-military demonstration, an anti-Walmart protest – NEVER do they rely on the average American outraged and acting on his own.
So it’s only natural that when they see people with fire in their eyes at these TownHall meetings, they assume it’s an Astroturf operation. They’re assuming that their own tactics are being used against them. The idea that Americans would speak out without being herded together for a purpose just is not in their database, so it HAS to be some kind of conspiracy.
Good rule of thumb: when the left accuses you of some sort of chicanery, it’s probably something they’ve done themselves, so they assume you do likewise. Dishonest people always assume everyone else is dishonest.

Will they be wearing brown shirts?
I’ll have to look for such meetings in my area to see how they will “directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters”. I wonder what they’ll do with boisterous Democrat protesters?
Remember during the campaign, when Obama directed his minions to “get in their faces?” Here it comes. There will be violence, and regardless of where it starts or who is bashed, the complicit media will line up to trumpet the theme that this vindicates Napolitano’s warnings of “domestic terrorists.”
Obama and his goons will have their “baby carriage on the Odessa steps” imagery, and they will pin it on anyone who has ever disagreed with his policies, and then it will get ugly.
Can somebody enlighten me, please. Do the unions not have their own health insurance schemes? Are they happy to lose them or will they be able to have a special deal whereby they can keep them?
Amen!!! Someone is going to get hurt. And the sad fact is that most of these people at these town halls are swing voters who are now regretting their vote for the Barry. – Lorica
AFL-CIO members probably have even more to lose than the average American with Obama’s H/C bill, because many if not most of them have excellent healthcare programs as part of their union contracts. Seems like this union is trying to destroy one of its own major accomplishments.
Well said, Chris.
I think this is going to be terrible miscalculation on the part of the White House. It will be noted that these protest were “boisterous” before, but when people start getting hurt they will notice that the violence didn’t start until Obama called in his thugs.
We’re looking more and more like Venezuela every day.
Helen – this may explain things.
Well, that didn’t take long:
TEA PARTY PROTESTERS ATTACKED– 1 Black Conservative Seriously Hurt in St. Louis!… 6 Arrested Including SEIU Members!
So it begins.
And of course, the poor man beaten to a pulp wasn’t a real black/African American, he was just some toady that had wandered off the plantation, kinda like Thomas, Williams, Sowell, Elders, Cain…
For decades the socialists have been able to protect their indefensible positions by shouting (with occasional violence). Now they have to show their real colors and defend the indefensible the only way they can, by violence first.
So much for “teachable moments”.
Violence never solved much of anything and I am sad and disappointed that either group would stoop to such low tactics. We are suppose to be adults but are no better than mean spirited little bullies brawling in the schoolyards. I am a government employee and a union member (I do not plan to go to any town hall meetings for anything!). I have health coverage, but my adult son who lost his job in this recession is not covered because he is too old. I worry about him becoming ill because what can I do? I can’t afford to purchase insurance for him on my own. I want my son to have the choice to be able to pick an affordable health insurance so I don’t have to worry about his health. I would also like to see my own preniums go down along with the costs of precriptions. I don’t understand why people are being so ignorant and disruptive over a choice. You can keep your present insurance coverage but also have the freedom to go shopping elsewhere. Has this entire country gone mad? What is wrong with you people?
Let’s face it. The unions are the equivalent of the Nazi SS.
Indigo, the short answer is to look at the Constitution, then the background explanatory papers for it. Nowhere will you find authority for the federal government to get involved with insurance, and some very specific statements saying that, because that’s not covered by enumerated powers, it can’t.
The long answer is to look elsewhere for savings. My first suggestion would be tort reform, both by patients and their ambulance-chasing lawyers and providers having enormous advantage over patients in grievances. Then look to other reforms, like how the FDA approves drugs. There is simply no reasonable argument that it’s being cautious, since many of the drugs not approved by the FDA are used in socialist-medicine countries years before the FDA moves off the dime. The average drug now costs nearly $1B before it’s ever approved. That’s obscene, and directly attributable to the FDA, bureaucrats and politicians.
There are other ways to lower medical costs, too, but that would be a good start.
This argument is very simple to digest. When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you’ll never get an argument from Paul.
Now what was it Mr Barak Obama did for all those years before his abbreviated term in the U S Senate–wasn’t he a–oh yeah–a community organizer! I guess there are only certain communities which should be organized.
So let me get this straight, Indigo. Because your son is currently between jobs, you want:
- the rest of us to have our medical treatments subject to approval by a government bureaucrat who has the job becuase he wasn’t sharp enough to land a spot at the DMV.
- the mother of all deficits, which will impoverish not only us, but future generations. Oh, and by the way, that will also make sure your son has a harder time landing a job.
- rationed health care, with wait times for routine tests measured in weeks and months, like in Canada and the UK.
- and in a few short years, you can have that bureaucrat calling you in to tell you how it’s your duty to hurry up and die already, because, you know, Congress really needs all your Social Security money to buy themselves another new private plane or something.
Yeah, that makes sense. And you want to know what’s wrong with us???
Let us agree that there is need for reform. But it is not something to rush into. I have a proposition for the democrats, fix medicare and welfare, and social security. When you prove that you can fix an existing program with major waste then you can suggest another program.
I have a question, ‘If my car needs breaks and it will cost me $600, why it make sense to have my car destroyed, and buy a new one? Why not fix the breaks? Congresses fix for healthcare is similar, some people aren’t covered, so let’s reform everyone’s coverage. If those breaks are bad, let’s fix that transmission ans the repair that engine.
Nancy Pelosi is at it again, she is comparing the shouting and complaining about health care reform to the instigating of Timothy McVeigh (sp?). These astroturf protestors are just going to incite riots. So who is the first victim of violence? A black conservative, (oh wait, since he is a conservative and black, he must be an uncle tom, not really black.) I wonder how CNN and MSNBC is handling this subject and how they will blame the right for this. And remember Obama called on the supporters to push back. isn’t he inciting these riots, Pelosi?
