MSDNC reports the latest accusation of racism coming from a rabid liberal Democrat, and this time one who has proven himself time and time again to be radical Islam’s most useful idiot:
In an interview with NBC’s Brian Williams, former Democratic President Jimmy Carter attributed much of the conservative opposition that President Obama is receiving to the issue of race.
“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man,” Carter said. “I live in the South, and I’ve seen the South come a long way, and I’ve seen the rest of the country that share the South’s attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African Americans.”
Carter continued, “And that racism inclination still exists. And I think it’s bubbled up to the surface because of the belief among many white people, not just in the South but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It’s an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply.”
Via Mickey Kaus, who believes the constant accusations of racism against Obama opponents is going to backfire on the left. Do you agree or disagree?
Update – 8:06 PM: Here’s the video of Carter’s remarks.

Each time they try to play on White guilt, it gets less and less effective. Eventually, it’s going to backfire on them badly, but in the process will set ethnic relations in this country back a generation.
PeanutHead exhibits his stupidity yet again. When he’s not validating the regimes of dictators, disrespecting his fellow presidents, talking trash about America, or making Michael Moore look handsome, he’s doing something truly moronic. Redneck farmer from south Georgia calling racist! The next thing you know Senator Grand Kleagle Byrd (D-KKK)will claim he started the underground railroad.
Yeah, I’m against almost everything Duh-1 does (up to but not including wasting oxygen by breathing), but I think Jimmuh would have a hard time proving it’s because of Obama’s race since I truly believe the best possible president we could have right now is Thomas Sowell.
But letting facts get in his way has never stopped Jimmuh from being stupid before and it certainly won’t now.
BTW, since he is backing Hamas so hard, and their written aim is to destroy Israel and eliminate all Jews, doesn’t that make Jimmuh a racist? Or, typically, is it only those who disagree with liberals who are racists?
Says someone who has a well developed, demonstrated raging case of Antisemitism on full public display.
OK, let me see if I get this right….
“Liar” is now a code word for “Black” in the leftist thesaurus.
So now when I say Nancy Pelosi lied about what the CIA told her, does that mean I think she’s black?
Or if I say that Bill Clinton lied before a grand jury, am I saying he’s not a person of pallor?
I think I need an updated copy of my English-to-Leftist dictionary.
The absolutely maddening thing about this is that there will be people who accept Carter’s remarks at face value because, a) his comments reafirm what they already believe, and, b) Carter is from the South, so he ought to know, right?
Whereas those of us who actually live in the South hear what Carter has to say and realize that it indicates nothing more than how insulated his life must be.
Oh, and comparing Obama to Hitler doesn’t mean that someone is racist. It just means that they’re terribly unoriginal.
Well GWR, Clinton was the first “black” president don’t you know.
Jimmy Carter: loathesome toxic toad or vile venomous homunculus?
Discuss.
I liked Carter as a person. I liked his books. I never liked his politics. Its too bad that he now has political dementia and in his alternate reality doesn’t realize what a horrible spokesperson he is for progressivism and Christianity. I think he needs to stick to building houses for the poor. He’s good at that.
This man is such an idiot. Sooooo the reason there were big protests last weekend was due to racism?? Between Dowd and Carter, I don’t know whos the bigger idiot. It is incredible to think that this man once led this country. Good Lord I can’t believe we made that mistake again by electing Obama. I guess in every generation, the fools must rear their stupid heads. Sadly this particular fool, just won’t go away. – Lorica
Do they really think the typical American viewer sees some connection between protests against big government and Pres.Obama’s race? It makes me wonder if the only reason they exalted him so quickly is to give them cover for their agenda.
Poor old Jimmuh,
What a sad legacy for someone who was so ineffective as a president. He really seems like a nice guy but I swear he has his brother Billy’s moments on comments like this…Go back to sleep Jimmuh.
Someone who knew Carter in Gerogia, before he became nationally prominent, defined the man as follows:
“He used to stand in the back of the Rotary meetings, glaring at all the rest of us because we weren’t as *righteous* as he was.”
This is ridiculous. Americans can not be distracted by this calculated “race game” the democratic think tanks have put into motion. Now im not disputing that SOME people might be racist and those people use there racism as a driving force behind Obama’s oposition. But to suggest that a great deal of the oppostion or to go as far as saying the majority of the opposition is based on racism is a clear political tactic designed to discredit and overshadow the genuine MASS opposition that has surfaced against Obama. This is a tactic to gain support and pass the health care reform and further Obama’s idealistic agenda. AMERICA DON’T BE MANIPULATED BY THIS MAN AGAIN. PLEASE!!!! everytime he is in any kind of trouble and his faults and weaknesses start to show Obama goes into campaign mode and manipulates many and his poll numbers rise again???? judge him by the job he is doing dont be afraid to be called a racist!
In a week where Kanye West and Serena Williams stopped major events with tirades, is the “you lie” comment really where we want to play the race card?
Regarding Dave: Jimmy wasn’t ineffective as a President. He’s pretty much caused the huge rise in terrorism against the U.S. When potential terrorists realized that he and the Democrats were afraid to do anything, they felt emboldened. Before Carter, the U.S. was viewed as being nearly invincible by most in the middle east. He was pathetic then and he’s more pathetic today.
Jimmy Carter has proven himself, yet again, to be competely irrelevant and painfully incompetent.
This is the comment of a little mind who has run out of ideas. Their intellect is so narrow, and their ego is so bloated, that they could not grasp why anyone would possibly disagree with them. It is inconceiveable to them, that some people in this world would not want the government running their healthcare. And yes Virginia, the ultimate goal here is Government run HC, don’t be stupid and believe that once this is in place that it won’t be expanded beyond it’s original intent. Just like everyting else run by the Federal Gov. I don’t trust Dems in power to do the right thing. The only thing shrinking in the Government is the “benefits” we receive from paying all these taxes over the years.
Could you imagive just how much benefit we could get from Social Security if Congress would just pay back the IOUs?? There would never be talk of SS being insolvent. Then, we might be able to pull something like this off, but not with this greedy bunch of power hungry maniacs.
Whenever I see these guys talking about Insurance Company profits, all I see is a drooling jealous idiot. But this is what you get when you have Democrats in power. Damn the RINOs in our party who just handed the Gov. over to these buffoons. – Lorica
They always say, “The best defense is a good offence.” If you can take your opponent out, before HE starts to consider taking YOU out, you don’t need any other defense… which has worked rather well for Obama to date. While critics are busy defending themselves against charges of racism, the main objection to the policy and/or lie is lost. Americans should also note when OB is creating “bad guys” because finding a common enemy is another way to shove your Marxist policies forward. OMG, some of this sounds vaguely familiar. Was there some other smooth-talking silver tongued devil who found a common enemy?
Since Jimmuh can paint all conservatives (and even moderates) as racists because they disagree with Duh-1, maybe we can paint all liberals and statists (such as Jackson, Sharpton, Wright, Carter and even His Hollowness) as racists because they base their entire worldview on the assumption that only a person of color can be correct in any belief simply because they are not “white”.
And it seems to me, conservative (read: racist) that I am, our side would be much closer to the truth than theirs.
But bottom line is that neither side would be (or is) correct. When collectivists try to use their reasoning powers (what little they have) it’s always easier to use the group than to try to figure out what each individual is basing actions and words on.
What a sad, sad state we are in as a nation – when any dessention concerning our black citizens (is ‘O’ a citizen?) is labeled racist. As George Orwell said: “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” Is this where we are headed? This constant pulling out the race card is getting a little ‘old’. Like a magician who keeps pulling the same ol’ tired rabbit out of the same ol’ hat. Is this the best the libs can do. What a sick joke. If the only tool in your toolbox is the race card – guess what – all your opponents look like racists. Libs – grow up – get over it – move on (pun intended) and discuss the facts. Or are the facts just a little to ‘real’ to face up to. As to Carter – he’s an embarassment of freedom loving people everywhere and a true racist of the first magnitude.
America is racist so what, its nothing new. Sorry that’s what the black community believes. They are raised hearing about our not to distant past and believe they are at the bottom of society because of white’s not so PAST superiority complex. Hence, the American history book. Wasn’t it only 55 years ago blacks were not even allowed go to school with the whites. Jim Crow laws lasted from 1876 till 1965 and before that it was full blown slavery. Now anybody with kids know that the earlier you start learning and making progress the more successful you become. Can we honestly say things were totally equal in 1965 or before? Blacks didn’t just land on America yesterday. There is a lot of history and ill will. Thats black history. Whites and successful blacks likes to act like the playing field has been leveled. All my family was born in ghettos. Before that sharecroppers and before that slaves. They are slowly making it but its not meant for everybody to make it. We need poor people to work for the rich. Blacks hear the story of there history, look at there situations and realize they are products of the former racist polices of America. Blacks are still fighting tooth and nail to fully get in the game. However when whites were fighting to gain money, prestige, and things of that nature. Blacks were stilling fighting just to be equal. They call a guy that’s half white half African(not American). The first black president. “The United States is the only country in the world in which a white mother can have a black child but a black mother cannot have a white child.” The 1 drop rule. Yep America thought of everything. Now we are in 2009 and opportunity exist for everybody. I strongly believe that, but blacks definitely need to fight to shake off the damages of marginalization that have led blacks to blame white for there current problems.
p.s. blacks should not be retarded as to think that the good fight was there own. Many whites lost there lives too to help the plight of there black american brothers.
Blacks and Whites we all gave up our old identities here in America. Americans are Americans I’m not from Africa, No green card. so what do we call an African from Africa in America? I hope not African American. hahaha just a joke for a serious topic. My best friend is black…. hahaha i luv that 1. 1 thing I must say is the kids is our future. If u love them I don’t care what team you are on
In the area I live, it’s certainly not uncommon to hear someone vocalize a racial slur directed at President Obama. It’s too bad.
Give Jimmy Carter credit for speaking his mind. He knows from personal observation of his acquaintances in intelligentsia elite, that racism motivates their every action. He doesn’t need any facts to support his opinion.
Fortunately, as the Town Halls have clearly demonstrated, the elite of this nation do not speak for the common people.
Carter just proved again why he couldn’t hold a real job. Besides, this Presidency was supposed to be ‘post-racial.’
The promise of a post racial Presidency was just one of a slew of broken campaign promises. ( for a list of the top five broken promises, you can view: LINK )
Carter ultimately helps conservatives though. He is such an embarrassment to any cause with which he is associated.
I think racism played an important role in getting the guy elected. We know there weren’t too many libs who knew anything else about the guy. How could they? He had no track record of which to speak. Later surveys showed in incredible lack of knowledge about Obama by those who supported him. His color won him the White House as much as anything else. Everyone was enamored with the notion of finally having a minority elected to president that they allowed this radical with very questionable connections to win. Those of us who looked at the guy, I mean, really looked at him, looking beyond his skin color (as if it freakin’ matters), knew the guy was a loser, ironically on the order of another Jimma Carter.
As to Carter himself, why does this buffoon get the time of day from anyone?
You nailed this one!! During the campaign the only person to bring up race [several times!] was OB. He counted on millions voting for him “because” he was black and the rest “because” they wanted to PROVE they were not racist. As president he did something unheard of–commenting on a police conduct without any facts–which, he should have known better. The information about him was out there–although not easy to find. I read two books and learned enough, but the true tale is told by a close scrutiny of his 30+ Czars: who they are, what they’ve done previously, who they are connected to, etc. And “end of life” counseling? Where does this come from, 1984? “Media Malpractice” documents the failure of the mainstream media to actually vet this guy–they were more like his personal Public Relations firm–and shows how uninformed most of his supporters were.
So, Damien, how do you explain the rapidly increasing proportion of blacks in the “middle class?”
And just as relevant, how do you explain the myriad communities throughout this country of ours that are commonly referred to as “poor white trash”? If race was the dominant determinant in production of poor, illiterate and socially inept groups of people there would be no “poor white trash.”
And if race is the dominant determinant, what explains Asian children of this country excelling at scholastics, but mostly just those of Japanese, Korean and Chinese descent?
Granted, there are still pockets of racism in our country, but broadbrushing all conservatives by labeling them “racist” just because they are conservative doesn’t add to the conversation in specific or the debate in general. That’s one reason I believe race baiters like Jackson, Obama, Wright and Sharpton (strangely, three “men of the cloth”, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how) are the bane of good race relations.
Carlos: I think you ought to (re-?)read Damien’s postscript…
I think he must have missed that camo….and I have had black friends and co-workers in the past, i moved to a more rural part of PA and there are very few black folks here…but any that are here are welcome in my home anytime….I grew up in an integrated school and neighborhood not dictated by a government program, but because we all lived together in the same little town. I am a people person and will talk to anyone and take people for who they are on the inside not what color they are wrapped in. I have gotten reacquainted with black and white friends from school at the latest reunions and we have great communications via the email.
I figure, God looks to the heart, not the surface. That should be my attitude, too. If your actions are telling me that you can’t be trusted I will take that as a warning before anything superficial gets in the way. There are plenty of poor white people who play the system as there are black. Now we are dealing with the Hispanic groups who are a different story. They have not been truly introduced to the American Dream, in my opinion. They have been introduced to Big Government Programs and figured if these other folks are taking advantage of it, why not us. They have a language barrier and many Mexicans are undereducated and cannot even read Spanish effectively enough to learn English. A little compassion, please, they will learn if they are instructed and if it is mandated. Right now we are giving the a free ride to NoWhereville and cultivating a lower class.
Kate: I grew up in Philly, but live in “da ‘burbs” now, after having lived in NH, NY, TX, CA, AL and HI.
(I was in the military for some of that)
Whereabouts in PA do you currently reside? (You don’t have to be too specific, but I’m no stalker or anything…)
