More Michael Moore capitalism hypocrisy

The LA Times Entertainment blog has an interesting tidbit regarding a close association lying windbag Michael Moore has with cable mogul John Malone:

He’s been called a bully and a monopolist. Al Gore once labeled him “Darth Vader.” The Wall Street Journal described him as “ruthless” and alleged “self-dealing” in a maze of complicated business transactions. He is a master of the tax-free deal, completely disdains government and most federal regulations, and has expressed a fondness for Rush Limbaugh. This summer he was slapped with a $1.4-million fine by the Justice Department for illegal stock purchases.

Sounds like the perfect target for a hard-hitting Michael Moore documentary, no? But no, we’re talking about Moore’s latest sugar daddy: cable mogul John Malone.

That’s right, Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” is being co-financed and distributed domestically by Overture Films, which is a unit of Malone’s Liberty Media. Moore, who has been railing against Big Media during press junkets promoting the movie, is in bed with the Goldman Sachs of the media world. Liberty also owns satellite broadcaster DirecTV, a stake in satellite radio operator Sirius XM, a big chunk of Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActiveCorp, the Atlanta Braves and a piece of the Denver Nuggets. Malone, who is considered the father of the modern-day cable industry, himself has a piece of cable programming giant Discovery Communications, on whose board he sits.

Obviously there is a little something ironic about Moore’s screed against capitalism being backed in part by one of the country’s richest and most avowed capitalists. Then again, Moore is nothing if not a paradox. Although he still keeps close ties to his home state of Michigan and has positioned himself as the voice of the common man, Moore is also a shrewd negotiator when it comes to his own vested financial interests. On his last film, “Sicko,” he received half of the documentary’s gross profit, as detailed in this Los Angeles Times piece. He doesn’t mind the perks that can come with being a big-shot moviemaker, such as the five-star hotel and the fancy car service.

Once again, the double standards of the left rear their ugly heads: Do as I say, and not as I do.

    Dear Michael,

Since you have so much more than I do (millions more) then it is only reasonable for your wealth to be redistributed to me and my not so fortunate working class family. I’m sure you will agree since you have agreed that capitalism is bad. We look forward to helping you ease your guilty conscience by relieving you of your ill-gotten capitalist bourgeoisie funds. Power to the proletariat and long live Castro and Chavez!

P.S. We accept cash, checks, or credit cards.

If Michael Moore is so much against Capitalism, why do I have to pay to see his movie?

Amen. What a fat, slovenly, hypocritical jackass. If you put him, Pelosi, Reid, Rangle (sp), Bawney Fwank, Soros, and the rest of the lot of harmful hypocrites on a ship with missing planks in the bottom, the nation would be better off.

  4. Avi – great question!

ST, I think you should drop the “h” word. While hypocrisy is the second most frequent charge made by lefties against conservatives (after racism), they themselves are impervious to it. It only has meaning if one has principles to betray or sell short. Leftists have no principles other than a compulsion to have power and order everyone’s lives.

I’m serious. Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue, but lefties acknowledge no vice and no virtue. All is relative, the only constant is their need for power. Everything else is governemd by the situation – principles are solely tactical. They cannot be hypocrites. You run the risk of falling in a rut if you try calling out every example of lefty hypocrisy.

It just has no meaning for them. You might as well accuse a lion of being a carnivore, or a fish of being piscene. Don’t be Sister One Note – besides, what does an unpricipled scoundrel care about being accused of hypocrisy?

“…lefties acknowledge no vice and no virtue…”

Good point, Steve. They have no problem with sexual harassment by a president because he was such a putrid example of humanity to begin with, but for crying out loud, all the Republicans who scream family virtues and end up with girlfriends in Argentina? The sky is falling!

Or Cunningham being bribe central? The heavens and earth were almost re-aligned disastrously with that, but there’s nothing to Jefferson’s cold cash, or Rangel’s bad memory, or Geithner’s inability to understand tax laws even though he’s now head of that part of guvmint. Or running a sex house out of your own home, but let a Republican get caught with some prossy and only shame, dishonor and a scarlet “A” on the forehead will do. The list is nearly endless.

Understand, the donks don’t want those standards, they just want the opposition who proclaims those standards to live up to them.

‘Course, if conservatives did they could always fall back on “Racism!”
