Breaking: Scozzafava drops out of NY-23 race (UPDATE: ESTABLISHMENT RALLIES AROUND HOFFMAN?)

Huge news (via Memeorandum):

Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents — Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.

Scozzafava has “probably made her last campaign appearance between now and Election Day,” spokesman Matt Burns told POLITICO. “She’s releasing her support to the two other candidates.”

“I had a discussion with her last night, and we made the decision after I spoke with her. We talked about it, what this came down to was spending. It came down to the ability to defend herself from the get-go. And that’s the reality. She was unable to define herself where the people didn’t know her.”

You can read her statement at that same link.

She must have finally seen the writing on the wall with both her falling poll numbers and the groundswell of support for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. Those same numbers indicate what may be a tight election on Tuesdsay between him and the Democrat in the race, Bill Owens, who will be joined by VP Joe Biden on Monday in a last ditch effort to drum up more support. Considering Biden’s high unfavorability ratings, it remains to be seen what – if any – positive impact will come from his visit. As for any ‘official’ support for Hoffman from the GOP establishment, well, they’re not supporting him – never have. In fact, they’ve pulled out of the NY-23 race altogether.

R.S. McCain has much more on this developing story.

Are you a conservative who lives in NY-23 and wants to show your support for Hoffman? Obviously, the best way to do that at this stage in the game is to vote for him on Tuesday. Not to sound cliche, but every vote counts (unless ACORN or Al Gore’s lawyers are involved, of course) – especially in close races.

Update – 12:01 PM: CNN reports that House GOP campaign Chair Pete Sessions is now set to endorse Hoffman. Politico’s Jonathan Martin reported via Twitter that Newt Gingrich, a staunch defender of Scozzafava against conservatives who accurately described her as a liberal in sheep’s clothing, is now endorsing Hoffman and urging others to vote for him on Tuesday.

Talk about opportunistic!

    re: Sessions
Wonder if he just wants the seat to be Republican at any cost, or if he’s actually free to support a real conservative?

    re: Gingrich
He doesn’t wear “waffle” well. I have to wonder if he wasn’t bamboozled by the establishment Republicans, if he didn’t do his due diligence in vetting before endorsing, or if he caught Potomac fever and isn’t the same old Newt we used to know?

And one can still donate to Hoffman, even if you don’t live in his district.

I want the Conservative Party to win cause it may incite others to run outside the 2-party systems. America has lost it’s glory with the demos/repubs. They choose their candidates & we are forced to vote for them. It’s time for a new party so we can regain our glory days.

There is a new book just out about a small town in America that fights federal tyranny & ends up starting the 2nd American Revolution. If you’re tired of the corruptness of our politicians (dozens now under investigation in DC) then definitely read the book! It’s insightful of Americans fighting to regain their country. Great book!

It’s okay Newt, you can now go cry on Al Sharpton’s shoulder, or your buddy Nancy’s shoulder. And while your at it, go look for your 5th wife – I think she ran away.

So now we will see the spin machines going into their final fluff and dry cycle….The RINO NY machine….Boo Hoo our girl can’t run due to the nasty conservative’s campaign. And the Democrats will just copy that and add….see what happens when conservatives run for office on a third party…DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN IN YOUR STATE!

Keep the pressure on! These state committees need to hear from us!

I, agree, Independent….the powers that be need to hear our voices.

This one for Newt, Steele, Sessions, and Cornyn, anytime you send me mail to donate rest assured it is going into file-13. Until you wake up and vet these candidates, then expect the same thing to happen again to other “democrat lite” candidates. Hey Charlie Crist, you’re the next to tumble under the weight of conservatives. Rubio is the right candidate.

  6. In the end, this will nots be a conservative vs liberal race as many want it to be, or some kind of poll on Obama. Simply a contest of advertising budgets, as always.

  7. forest hunter says:

“The reality that I’ve come to accept is that in today’s political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money — and as I’ve been outspent on both sides, I’ve been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record,” she said.

Scozzafava didn’t endorse either of the remaining candidates, opting instead to allow her supporters make their own choice.

Well if she’s any indication where the rest of the RINO minds are, it’s no wonder we’re where we are. Scozzafava aka *CluelesScoz Ima CluelessScoz*, needs to have another gander at the fresh spilt tea leaves. We’re in search of leaders, not breeders of the same’o same’o! And the reason she has no money is hotlinked directly to that very reality, but will neither admit it, nor have what it takes, to ask her sheeple to get beind the conservative. Good riddens!

  8. Carlos says:

So, just to make a point (money wins elections, people don’t) the “Republican” candidate refuses to endorse one who COULD have been a real Republican candidate and instead tells her sheeple to do whatever they want. Great advice!

And the national won’t endorse him, either.

Just goes to show how devoted the national is to the ideals they say they support.

Also shows just how badly they want to cut into the jackass base – by becoming jackasses.

  9. Great White Rat says:

UPDATE: Not that this will come as a surprise to anyone, but one day after quitting the race, Scozzafava has now endorsed the Democrat.

This is textbook RINO behavior. When they win a primary, they expect conservatives to back them in the name of “party unity”. When they lose the primary, they sulk and either secretly or openly support the Democrat. I’ve seen it more times here in NJ (including this year’s campaign for governor) than I care to count.

IMHO, they should make a clean break of it. Admit they’re leftists and go join the leftist party. Who needs them.

  10. Carlos says:

GWR, ya beat me to it. All I would add is that we do have a tent big enough to fit them in.

Provided, of course, they don’t act like the spoiled children all libs/leftists are and threaten to pick up their marbles and go home. They can’t seem to understand that, unlike them, we are not impressed with a socialist agenda, nor do we fawn over the MSM in order to “feel the love” that’s good only as long as a jackass isn’t running against you.

Now, if they can contribute to what we have to offer, that’s fine. If not, get out of the way and let someone with active brain cells do the talking, figuring and planning.

    Are ya listening, RNC?
