“Leading” presidential “scholars” rank Obama ahead of Reagan on “best Presidents” list

Officially the most worthless list evah?

George W. Bush was no FDR, but Barack Obama could be.

That’s the verdict of 238 of the nation’s leading presidential scholars, who – for a fifth time – rated Franklin Delano Roosevelt the best president ever in the latest Siena College Research Institute poll.

In office for barely two years, Obama entered the survey in the 15th position – two spots behind Bill Clinton and three spots ahead of Ronald Reagan.

Obama got high marks for intelligence, ability to communicate and imagination, but his score was dragged down by his relative lack of experience and family background.

“Most of the presidents came from elite backgrounds, and he certainly did not,” said professor Douglas Lonnstrom, who crunched the numbers. “He grew up without a father.”

How did GWB rank? Predictably:

And yet, the scholars rated Dubya a dud as a president, ranking him in the bottom five at 39th place.

That’s a steep drop from 23rd place, which is where Bush ranked when he entered the survey after his first year in office.

Bush got docked for saddling Obama with two bloody wars and a recession, and he got low marks for “ability to compromise, foreign policy accomplishments and intelligence,” according to the survey.

[...]

The scholars ranked the presidents on personal attributes such as integrity, intelligence, leadership and willingness to take risks as well as things they have little control over, like luck.

And, and Obama’s also a “hip” liberal, which makes him even more better than Reagan … and stuff!!!?!

Bob Owens quipped on Twitter:

Poll of academics concludes Obama is one of our best Presidents ever, reveals I’m Playmate of the Year.

Hah.

Maybe the “scholars” ranked Obama so high, in part, not because of what he has done but because of … what he may do in the future, which is simlar the rationale used by the Nobel committee in awarding him the Nobel Peace prize, another worthless “honor.”

I’m so glad I’m not as desperate for validation as those deluded “academics” are. Clinton AND Obama better than Reagan? Whatevs.

    2. Anthony says:

These polls are uniformly worthless, if for nothing else than a) they tend to be dominated by liberal-progressive historians, and b) not all presidents faced the same types of challenges, so these are apples and oranges comparisons.

Obviously a bunch of liberal marxist hacks. BO is in the process of destroying the country.

Yet another example of how education doesn’t equal intelligence.

      hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! ROFLMAO. I can’t breathe.

Those Morons have Wilson listed 8th on the list. He’s the President who instituted racial segregation within the federal government.

Were these academics Big Bird and Ernie?

    9. Old Goat says:

Being that these “academics” are doing the ratings, and they continually get it so wrong, is it any wonder why our education system is doing so poorly?

Just more proof, as if we need it, that liberalism is a mental disorder, and with Obama in office, a dangerous one at that.

    10. LightningRod says:

Can you imagine they actually believe this????

Here’s the oxygen tank Arcman46….I’m done with it now….whew.

And when will reality every make it onto the college campuses…these “experts” must have some really good smoke to keep them as deluded as this little poll indicates!

    12. Sefton says:

Low marks for Obama: Truth, Constitutional oath keeping, and being an American Leader
High marks for Obama: Lying, Narcissism, Buck-Passing, Pandering, Excuses, Pants-Wetting, Bowing, Vacationing, Lying, Fly-Attracting, Hypocrisy, Arrogance, Condescension, Lying

    13. Carlos says:

What more can be said? Obviously, these “academics” are still grading Duh-1 as an affirmative action student, although one would think that, for the position of the single most powerful person in the world, one would wish for more than an affirmative action (meaning he is totally unqualified for the position except because of race) president.

Welcome to the new Amerika, a thugocracy of the New World Order. Led by a creepy nobody from a moral wasteland and praised by mental Lilliputians.

    14. I remember watching GWB gray, apparently naturally. And Reagan didn’t gray, reportedly naturally. A recent photo of Obama, seen on Drudge, showed no gray at the temples but I distinctly remember March or April of 2009 commentators, mostly female, reacting positively to Obama’s graying. It was a sign of his doing a wonderful job.
So, is the best president since sliced bread dying his hair black now, or did he dye it gray then?
I’m sure wise people don’t brag about their wisdom, and people who really work hard don’t costume themselves to appear hard-working. And scholars worthy of the name don’t rank leaders who don’t show leadership, integrity or intelligence above leaders who really showed all those traits.

    15. daveinboca says:

Let’s see. A small unheard-of upstate NY school manages to cherrypick 236 “presidential scholars” who end up ranking FDR number one and fellow New York stater Teddy Rooseveldt number two in the all-time POTUS lineup. I wonder how many out-of-state “scholars” participated!?!

    16. thomas mc donnell says:

a marxist’s job in a non-marxist country is to destroy the existing order. obama is doing a terrific job of doing just that. so it stands to reason that a group of leftist college professors would think he’s doing a terrific job.

    17. Scolaighe says:

By this time Reagan had the ayatollahs sh*tting themselves and by the end of his presidency the Evil Empire had been rope-a-doped into a coma. Obama can’t carry Reagan’s jock.

    18. SpideyTerry says:

So, high unemployment, a massive deficit, an out-of-control oil spill creating unprecedented damage, taking three damn months to determine a war strategy, ramming through a deeply unpopular health care bill, opposing a state immigration law that mirrors a seventy-year-old federal law and saying “uh” every other word even with a teleprompter qualifies as being one of the best presidents ever?

Bush got docked for saddling Obama with two bloody wars and a recession

One war of which was all but won and the other that had a viable strategy in place that only needed to be implemented. (Of course, Obama dragged his feet on the latter naturally.) As for the recession, Obama helped protect Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his braindead policies have made things worse.

    19. Dave B says:

Did you know Obama was the first President in our history that inherited the problems of the previous administration? It’s true, just listen to the MSM. He ran for president not even knowing there were two wars going on and a recession. They sprung it on him after he got elected… the bastards. And the crack up job he did with his appointments… tax cheats, criminals… he’s magnificent. How about his foreign policy? He’s managed to alienate our allies and embolden our enemies. What a great job! And our economy and what he’s done to fix it might damn well propel him into sainthood. What can we say about the Gulf Oil spill? Leadership is too weak a term to describe this “historical” man. As it stands right now Obama should be listed 44th. He’s obviously way over his head when it comes to actually governing and he still can’t get out of “campaign mode.” He only knows how to generate hate and tension because that has always worked for him the past.

I was a college freshman in 1963. I had several professors who went around doing their, “Ho, Ho, Ho chi Minh” chants. They realize they were safe. All of the college heads were also American hater.

    21. ml says:

I don’t believe this. Reagan was better than Obama.

    22. Tom TB says:

I heard “Presidential Historian” Michael Beschloss on the Don Imus show a while back, and he is convinced, with NO proof, that Barack Obama has the highest I.Q. of any American President! If Barry is sooo smart, why does he prevent the release of his college transcripts???

    23. Jo says:

To radical leftist liberal hacks like these so-called ‘scholars’ (and I laugh here), he WILL go down in history as THE GREATEST!!!! After all, the mark of greatness to them is to tax and spend and destroy free enterprise and bring down evil capitalism. He’s doing a bang-up job of that and those despicable, irritating little sideline issues preventing him from totally annihilating the economy and making the government all powerful such as the war’s and the oil spill, those are just pesky, bothersome, annoying impediments to his progress and agenda.

    24. Kate says:

The whole article smacks of the Orwellian 1984 method of rewritting history and wiping out any remnant of truth so that those in power retain it and those out of power remain impotent to do anything.

This was all orchestrated and commanded by those who worship Obama.

    25. Zippy says:

I stopped reading after ‘high score for imagination’. That says it all. Imagination is the PC term for delusional.

    26. Zippy says:

      P.S. Good Morning!:d

    27. Zippy says:

He will definitely go down in the anals (on purpose typo, it stays) of history for reasons which are obvious.

    28. Tom says:

Looks like you get extra points if you are a progressive.

    29. Carlos says:

IF our country survives him, and IF we are good enough to have more presidencies, and IF we have 44 more presidents, hopefully Mr. Obama will be deservedly ranked as the 88th best at that point, even ahead of the dunderhead Jimmuh.

But, at this point anyway, those are pretty big “IFs”.

BTW, excellent shot, Zippy. History shall so record it.

    30. Lorica says:

Utilizing this same fuzzy logic, I’d like to go on record as saying M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, “The Last Airbender” is better than “Star Wars”. I haven’t seen “The Last Airbender” yet, which makes my logic all the more realistic from an academic scholar’s point of limited view.

    34. greenjeans says:

I consider myself as a hardcore conservative, yet I agree with this list.

    35. Anthony says:

Oh come now. You agree that Obama should rank higher than Reagan? Forget ideology for a moment: by what measure do you justify that? Reagan served 8 years. Obama has been in office less than two. Reagan’s policies ended the Cold War and helped institute a 25-year run of almost unbroken prosperity. Obama, after 18 months, has done visible harm to the United States’ economy, foreign relations, and even her environment. Now, things may improve by November 2012, but, since we’re talking about this list, and based on what we know of both presidents, how do you justify putting Obama above Reagan?

    36. Brontefan says:

Who is conducting the polls? After 35+ years of socialist academic take-over in colleges and universities—-why is this a shock? Obama is not genius; he is a Marxist with an agenda. Where does the idea of getting money from BP solve the problem? We are still leaking oil into our Gulf and the gulf states are still suffering! What is Obama doing? Golfing? Where is he? Why is the money all that anyone cares about?
