I guess “shared sacrifice” does not apply to unions?

I’m getting really sick of hearing the term “shared sacrifice” – especially when it comes from our celebrity President (and other liberal “leaders”) as he seeks to try to convince the American people that the “rich” aren’t paying their “fair share” of taxes, but a thought came to mind to me this afternoon and it made me boil: “the rich” (aka the job creators) are supposed to pony up even more money in these uncertain economic times, made even more uncertain by the clueless wonder sitting in the Oval Office, yet fat cat unionistas and members (like this union crowd Nancy Pelosi spoke in front of earlier today) aren’t supposed to be touched to any meaningful degree?

“Shared sacrifice” is code-speak for ‘soak the rich.’ But you know that already. You see, the poor, poor, pitiful poor have ALREADY sacrificed so, so much and to ask them to ‘contribute’ even more than they do for ‘the common good’ would be evil. The poor have sacrificed opportunity, entrepreneurship, wealth, independence, sobriety, education, hope and peace of mind so that so many, many others (the evil rich) can prosper and succeed on their lowly backs. The prosperity pie only has so many slices. The poor have selflessly used restraint and rejected affluence for the common good. Such is a noble sacrifice. The evil rich, on the other hand, have gorged themselves like gluttons, leaving only scraps and crumbs under the table for the noble poor to feed upon. And since most of the rich are white and most of the poor are minorities it wouldn’t be a stretch to conclude the rich are not only greedy, they are racists.
If only there were such a thing as ‘wealth creation.’ If only we lived in a world were opportunities existed for everyone to prosper. If only we had a governing document, say a ‘Constitution’, that guaranteed equal rights for all men, with a governing body ‘of the people’, ‘by the people’, and ‘for the people.’ If only we had freedom to CHOOSE our leaders in a democratic process of free and fair elections, and those ‘leaders’ would be ‘the peoples’ representatives’ not Lords over us. If only…
But, we don’t. The rich are evil and greedy and the poor are noble self-sacrificers. That’s the world we live in.

Between the second quarter of 2009 and the fourth quarter of 2010, real national income in the U.S. increased by $528 billion. Pre-tax corporate profits by themselves had increased by $464 billion while aggregate real wages and salaries rose by only $7 billion or only .1%. Over this six quarter period, corporate profits captured 88% of the growth in real national income while aggregate wages and salaries accounted for only slightly more than 1% of the growth in real national income. The extraordinarily high share of national income (88%) received by corporate profits was by far the highest in the past five recoveries from national recessions.

    Just throwing that out there.

Makes you wonder who the real elitists are.

Well, if you’re stupid enough to be in a union and give part of your check every payday so the “Leadership” can do whatever the H*ll they want with it, then you’re stupid enough to believe Pelosis’ (and the Dem partys’)BS.

Besides, the unions are on the $ receiving end, not the $ sharing end (except,of course, when giving 0bama campaign donations…).

  4. Carlos says:

There isn’t a wasted dollar that goes from the Treasury to unions because, as anyone with an active brain cell knows, the rank and file’s 10% “dues” (another word for “job protection racket) just isn’t enough to let the union leadership live in the manner to which they’ve become accustomed, so tossing all that money to the union bigwigs is keeping them happy.

Besides, a good chunk of it comes back as campaign donations, so in fact every taxpayer is contributing to the downfall of the country via the Democraps (who happen to get the vast, vast majority of union “contributions” that, for all their rhetoric, still look like bribes to a dumb country boy).

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. The UAW is already clamoring to have their wages and benefits restored to pre-bankruptcy levels now that the auto companies are profitable again. The contract expires on Sept 14. Will GM and Chrysler have the spine to stand up to the unions? A UAW strike in the fall would be so poetic.

Ford is actually looking for more concessions but then they don’t have the political burden of being crony capitalists like their welfare queen competitors.

Next time, no bail out. Kay?

‘shared sacrifice” means conservatives sacrifice and liberals share in the proceeds.

‘Course, my personal opinion is that Government Motors (both divisions – GM & Chrysler) aren’t a whole bunch worse than all the megacorps farming companies on the government dole, especially the ones that stopped producing corn for consumption and started producing ethanol for the greenie weenies who don’t have enough sense to know just how much more harmful that is to the environment, let alone the wasted energy producing it.

  9. Rebecca says:

Greg, I think “shared sacrifice” is code for soaking just about everyone, not just the rich. It’s a ridiculous concept and it’s offensive that Obama throws it around so easily.

ST – loved the post. I reposted it on my blog:

The bottom line is that this country can never, under any circumstances, repay the unions for all the wonderful things they say they contributed to us.

Let’s also keep in mind that one of the reasons that there are huge profits in the oil industry is that they are not allowed to drill or explore. Industries are hit with so many regulations and restrictions that they can’t reinvest their money. Hence huge profits that they can’t spend which just feeds that crap about more “money than they need” etc. and turning them into public enemy no. 1.

  12. Iva Biggin says:

What sacrifices are the so-called “poor” supposedly sharing? They pay nothing in taxes, receive “earned income credit” checks and uncountable other freebies from us working suckers. How does not receiving more of MY money constitute a sacrifice that they are making?

    Dear Mrs. Billionaire-limousineliberal-daughterofcorruptpolitical machine,

Who is this ‘we’ you speak of?

  14. Liz says:

Never argue with a government(biggest union around if you think about it) or union employee as they have too much skin in the game! They cannot be reasoned with and believe me I have tried!! Let’s start by having our Washington government (including all branches) put their ‘skin’ in the game and we, the people who actually work for our tax dollars, can pay them for the part time work they do!!!

  15. captaingrumpy says:

For a country that sells itself on everyone being equal….. then why doesn’t everyone pay their fair share of taxes ,like any other country. It’s putting the load on rich people that did not waste their money and letting the loonies that spend and spend ,off scott free.
In Australia ,it does not matter how much you make, there is a sliding scale of taxes.Even people on welfare, pay taxes. It all helps.

  16. Greg says:

Why is it that liberals always think in terms of ‘shared sacrifice’ and conservatives think in terms of ‘shared prosperity’?
