Ohio coal miners to Obama: Stop lying about our participation in Romney rally

I’m surprised this isn’t getting more attention from the mainstream press (not really):

BEALLSVILLE – Coal miners at the American Energy Corp. Century Mine said they want President Barack Obama to stop what they term “the war on coal” – and to stop spreading “mistruths” about them.

Miners gathered Friday afternoon to express their opposition to Obama’s energy and environmental policies, which they believe threaten their jobs. Miner Mitch Miracle read aloud a letter the miners mailed to Obama that outlines some of their concerns.

The miners said Obama’s campaign team is running ads filled with “blatantly false” statements about the miners regarding their participation in Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s August campaign stop at the Century Mine. These ads assert that the miners were forced to attend the event by the mine’s owner, Robert Murray.

“There are numerous false statements and absolute lies concerning our participation in this event, mostly started by a local ‘shock jock’ radio host,” the miners’ letter to Obama states. “Why would you (Obama) lie about the 500 working miners who have signed this letter? We, the employees of the Century Mine would request you immediately stop these false ads.”

This summer, Murray Energy Corp., parent company of the Beallsville mine, cut or relocated 56 workers with the closure of the Red Bird West mine near Brilliant. Murray also cut 29 mining jobs from The Ohio Valley Coal Co.’s Powhatan No. 6 Mine. All of this was done, Robert Murray said, because of Obama’s “war on coal.”

Here’s video from last Friday’s announcement from the miners (via @Jackalish):

NRO’s Greg Pollowitz notes how the left glommed onto the allegations the miners were “forced” to attend the rally:

Back in August, the Left went bonkers over a story alleging that coal miners were forced by their employer to protest against President Obama. At the time, HuffPoMother Jonesetc. all ran with that version of events.

Think the ad will be pulled, and that Obama’s dutiful minions on popular left wing blog sites will issue a retraction? Don’t count on it.  Truth is an alien concept to these people, especially now that we’re down the wire – plus the Romney-Ryan ticket is gaining momentum in the polls. To desperate Democrats, it’s time to pull out all the stops, throw whatever crap they can to see if it sticks, and to not worry about whatever shred of integrity any of these “journalistic enterprises” had flying out the window.

“By any means necessary” … and all that. :-w

Oh, gosh. It seems “global warming” stopped about 16 years ago. UPDATED: Met Office replies

**Posted by Phineas

Now there’s an “inconvenient truth” for the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming. And the source is none other than the UK’s Met Office, a veritable temple of the faith:

The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.

The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.

This means that the ‘plateau’ or ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years.

The new data, compiled from more than 3,000 measuring points on land and sea, was issued quietly on the internet, without any media fanfare, and, until today, it has not been reported.

This stands in sharp contrast to the release of the previous figures six months ago, which went only to the end of 2010 – a very warm year.

Ending the data then means it is possible to show a slight warming trend since 1997, but 2011 and the first eight months of 2012 were much cooler, and thus this trend is erased.

Some climate scientists, such as Professor Phil Jones, director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, last week dismissed the significance of the plateau, saying that 15 or 16 years is too short a period from which to draw conclusions.

Others disagreed. Professor Judith Curry, who is the head of the climate science department at America’s prestigious Georgia Tech university, told The Mail on Sunday that it was clear that the computer models used to predict future warming were ‘deeply flawed’.

Even Prof Jones admitted that he and his colleagues did not understand the impact of ‘natural variability’ – factors such as long-term ocean temperature cycles and changes in the output of the sun. However, he said he was still convinced that the current decade would end up significantly warmer than the previous two.

You won’t be shocked to learn the Met Office released this data without any publicity — not surprising since it blows a hole in their precious theory theology big enough to drive a 16-wheeler through. Later in the article it’s observed that the current “plateau” period has been about as long as the warming trend that preceded it. A little bit of reading and some thought based on observable evidence (and not computer models) might lead one to think this is part of a natural cycle, not some sign that man has angered Gaea and will be punished for it.

That’s the theory I prefer, at any rate, and I think it’s more empirical than anything the Met Office, the University of East Anglia, Phil Jones, James Hansen, Al Gore, and the rest of the alarmist, Green Statist, rent-seeking cult has ever produced.

This will not stop them, of course, as Jones’ bleatings and pleadings in the article show, even while he admits they don’t know enough about natural cycles. Well, then doesn’t that make their oracles –their computer models– worthless?

Not to the true climate alarmist. They’ll just wait a little for the fuss to die down, then go back to selling their predictions of doom and claiming mathematical proof in the hope of convincing a few more uncritical suckers.

And we’ll be waiting for them.

Dear FLOTUS: Where exactly is this “huge recovery” you’re seeing?

Really?

(CNSNews.com) – First Lady Michelle Obama said in a radio interview on Friday that the United States is in the “midst of a huge recovery” because of what “this president has done.”

Pablo Sato, co-host of Pablo & Freeon WPGC 95.5, a Washington, D.C.-area hip-hop radio station, asked the first lady:  “Mrs. Obama, you know what, in your words, tell us what you think the state of the union is in right now?”

Mrs. Obama said, “I mean, we are seeing right now that we are in the midst of a huge recovery. Right?  Because of what this president has done.”

[…]

Obama: “Pulled this economy from the brink of collapse when we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. Now were gaining every — throughout most of his presidency, we’ve been adding jobs to this economy because of what he’s been doing. The stock market has doubled. Housing prices are rising. Foreclosure rates are lowering. But in the face of that, you still have people trying to convince us that things aren’t better.”

[…]

Obama: “And that just doesn’t make sense. Now, Barack of all people knows that we still have a long way to go to completely rebuild the economy. But we’re headed in the right direction. And when you see all of that truth, it’s hard to understand why are people blocking this? Why are people talking about not raising taxes on wealthy people? Why is it that people don’t want to fight to make sure that veterans have job opportunities?”

Er, reality check, please.

Mrs. Obama  is either lying through her teeth or has been brainwashed from spending too much time in DC around the lying liars in this administration, including her husband. Take your pick.
