Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher turned 80 on Friday. Happy Birthday to THE iron lady. Sorry I’m a day late, Mrs. Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher also had the good sense to oppose the war in Iraq. She stiffened Bush I for the necessary first Gulf War; too bad his son didn’t listen to her this time. But, of course, he wouldn’t listen to any of the grown-ups.

And it’s too bad you apparently are under some false impression that leaders of this country should defer our foreign policy decisions to other country’s leaders, whether they be former or current.

However, in the case of Mrs. Thatcher, she didn’t “oppose” the war in Iraq:

Although Lady Thatcher remains a strong supporter of the decision to topple Saddam by invading Iraq, it is the first time she has questioned the basis for the war.

Nor do I recall her giving any advice to W in advance that he should have listened to.
