Site updates
FYI, still no resolution on the comments editor plug-in dilemma. I’ve gotten quite a few emails from people who miss that feature … believe me, I’m missin’ it, too. I’ve even tried installing earlier versions, which work the same but don’t resolve the problem. I’m thinking about trying to install a comment “preview” plug-in different from the one we have here now. Whereas this one let’s you preview it below the screen where you are typing it, the one I am looking at would give you a “preview” button to click in order to view your comment before it’s posted. If the coding doesn’t look too tricky on that one, I’ll try to install it as a short-term fix until a resolution (if any) can be reached on the comment editor plug-in. I contacted the creator of the plug-in but that was several days ago and I’ve received no response. Ah well.
I’m still also trying to figure out how to add an “enlarge your font” plug-in for anyone viewing the site who believes the font is too small (or large). And lastly on the plug-ins, one of the smilies in the smiley plug-in isn’t showing up correctly (and it happens to be my favorite one). It’s the one where the little guy is raising his hands in the air like he’s rockin’. I’ve edited that plug-in in several places but that one smiley is still not showing up the way it should. I’ll continue to work at fixing it (and continue to learn as I go!).
As to new features, as you’ll see on the right side there is a “Stay Connected” feature that lists a few options for how you can keep up to date with what’s posted at this site when you’re not directly on this page. First, there’s the link to my Twitter page. In case you are unfamiliar with it, Twitter is a great communication tool that reminds me of “instant messaging” yet, thankfully, there is no software to download. You just go to your Twitter page, post a quick comment (or link) and hit the “update” button. Anyone following you on Twitter will see the comment/link. I’ve also added the rss/atom feed links for anyone who keeps up with their favorite blogs via a news aggregator. Most browsers have an option to find the feed link for a particular site, but for those who don’t have that feature on their browser, there you go.
Finally, if you’d like to sign up for email notifications for when this website is updated with content, enter your email in the box on the right and you’ll be taken to a page where it asks you to confirm your email address. Once you click confirmation link sent to you via email, you’ll see a “manage subscriptions” link that you can go to to set how often you want to receive updates (along with some other settings). Just for testing purposes I set mine up a while back to get them once a day (they are emailed at night), but there are also options to get hourly updates, or every 4 hours, or every 8 hours, or every 12 hours. If you don’t want your box clogged with email updates about this site, I would suggest setting it at every 4 hours. If you’re a Toldjaholic (humor me for a few seconds, ok?), then I would suggest setting it to hourly.
Any comments or questions about site features/functionality? Lemme know …
