An early Happy St. Patrick’s Day greeting

%%- ST reader Dana Pico has a cute post up with multiple pictures of a St. Patrick’s Day parade that took place in Jim Thorpe, PA yesterday. I’m trying to figure out which green-haired parade attendee is Dana. (PS: Dana, are you stuck in a time warp? It’s January 2006, according to your camera!) 😉

In other St. Pat’s Day news, Geoffrey Dickens at Newsbusters writes about how the Today Show’s Al Roker did a segment this morning live from Ireland. What was he there to celebrate? Obama’s Irish roots:

Over a chorus of gleeful Irish pub-goers literally singing Barack Obama’s praises, NBC’s Al Roker, broadcasting live from Ireland on Monday’s “Today” show, explored the current president’s Irish roots as he observed: “As St. Patrick’s Day approaches in Moneygall the townsfolk join in the chorus, determined to keep hope alive.” The “Today” show weatherman began the celebratory segment by exclaiming: “In a small pub in Ireland they’re still celebrating Obama’s victory. Dancing in honor of their adopted son.”

The transcript is available at the NB link. Here’s the video:

Seriously – Obama has Irish roots? Is this anything like John Kerry’s phony Irish roots claim, or Hillary’s bogus “my mother named me after Sir Edmund Hillary” claim? Nope. The claim that Obama has Irish roots is true.

Anyway, Happy St. Pat’s Day! And don’t forget to wear green tomorrow, so you don’t get pinched.

Oh – and yes. This is the only time of the year I’m ok with NBC’s logo being green. The other times? Not so much. %%-
