The article by Fousad Ajami, “The Summer of Our Discontent”, should be required reading for every politician, media-type spinner, every academic and every teacher in this country. They should be required to read it until they understand it.

Meanwhile, here’s something that I’m sure will surprise everyone: Libya broke promise not to celebrate Lockerbie release.

The man who took the decision to free the Lockerbie bomber from jail on compassionate grounds accused him yesterday of breaking an undertaking not to celebrate his release.

Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi, the Libyan convicted of the bombing, had shown “no sensitivity” to the families of those who died, Kenny MacAskill, Scotland’s Justice Secretary, told the Scottish Parliament.

In other words, a terrorist who is totally unrepentant about his act lied, and this leftist simpleton is shocked.

Like any liberal, MacAskill is only concerned with feelings. The only thing that bothers him is that the terrorist is insensitive. It would be OK if al-Megrahi returned to planting bombs – just don’t take a victory lap around the Tripoli airport and exchange high-fives with Gaddafi when arriving home.

Maybe alchemist or one of the other liberal commenters here can explain why leftists think islamofascists can be trusted, but not ‘enemies’ like Americans who cling to their guns and religion, or veterans, or (the most recent villian) doctors.

My Democrat congressman has come out against the House health care bill (HR 3200). Via the Asbury Park Press:

“The bill that’s coming through the House, with or without the public option, isn’t good for America,” Adler said matter-of-factly. “We have Congressional Budget Office projections of a trillion-dollar increase in costs that will have to be borne by taxpayers or insurance purchasers; meaning businesses and households. Either way, that’s a cost we can’t afford.”

Adler won an open seat last year by a hair riding on Obama’s coattails. So my guess is he’s trying to make nice with the restless voters. But he’s a committed liberal, always has been.

My prediction: Pelosi will have the bill modified slightly and then he’ll vote for it. And next year Adler will trot out the statement above a “proof” that he’s sooooo fiscally responsible and deserves re-election.
