Weekend Open Thread

Getting ready to head out for a Girls Day Out with mom and my sisters (it’s my eldest sister’s bday). Enjoy your Saturday, y’all! Lord-willing, I’ll check back in when I can.

Oh, and here’s an adorable pic of a bunny I saw in my back yard yesterday evening. Too cute!

This year, we seem to have more rabbits than I’ve ever noticed before. Despite nine cats, they’re just hopping around out in the open.

Mrs. Webworker got to rescue a baby bun from a cat this month. Daisy the housecat seemed to be protecting it from feral regular visitor Max, although she may have just beem protecting her lunch. As per Professor Google’s advice, we just let the critter go out away from the house, and it hopped away encouragingly. Learned, however, that just a bite from a cat’s bacteria-laden teeth can kill a bun in a couple of days, and while we couldn’t find a wound, there was one drop of blood from the bun. Oh, well, we did our save-the-baby-bunny part, in any case. At least saved ourselves cleaning up the remains off the front porch (this time).

The mercury hit 110 yesterday here in West Texas. I am ever mindful to keep plenty of water in the bird bath and in another pan for the wildlife. Hot enough to make Elmer shuck the coat and cap.

Lots of screwy wabbits here in SW CT. They prefer the weeds to the grass, so they are like welcome unpaid landscapers!

I had a friend of a friend in my car in the sixties,giving her a ride to her parents farm in south Texas she said not a word, a cute if shy blond. She shouted “stop” on a dirt road, reached into a suitcase and got out of the car, before I could focus on a beat up pistol a shot rang out, she went about twenty yards picked up a rabbit and with some sort of box cutter had the creature skinned and cleaned in less than a minute. I immediately proposed but she turned me down flat, said I was too citified and she was too country. I proposed every few years for a long time, didn’t happen. Still who I think of when I see Sarah or Michele.AND I still luv ’em!

My mother used to cook the rabbits I brought home from shooting them in the quarry ,up the road.We could not afford meat all the time ,but Now I am 62 and still would like some of Mum’s Rabbit Stew.Funny how you smile when good memories return.
