Next Monday marks the 10 year anniversary of the day Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went on a rampage at Columbine High School, killing 12 students and a teacher and wounding 24 before killing themselves. The USA Today had an interesting article yesterday that debunked several myths surrounding Columbine, including the myth that Harris and Klebold were “loners” who specifically targeted certain types like jocks and Christians.
When the housing bubble burst last summer, people started worrying about more than just the values of their homes. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac collapsed and, in their wake, took down major banks like Bear, Sterns and legendary insurance giants like AIG. If you’re an investor, you can recall when these stocks were among those considered to be as close to “sure things” as any investment could be. Their collapse, and the threatened fall of other big banking houses, was and is frightening.
I’m a little late to the game on this one, but Febuary 27th was the anniversary of the death of mega-conservative icon Bill Buckley.
Some bloggers at the Volokh Conspiracy legal blog are engaging in a back and forth with Slate magazine over comparisons between Lincoln’s laws of war and President Bush’s. For history buffs, it makes for some interesting reading.
On Friday, I linked up to a photo Jason Smith had posted of a Borders book store in Dallas, TX that had set up a shrine of sorts to our nation’s 44th President. The photo was linked to by several bloggers as evidence of the over-the-top nature of many Obama supporters, including some of those who work at bookstores.
