It’s sort of like the NYT’s endorsement of McCain earlier this year – it’s not an endorsement a true conservative desires, but then again, Charlotte’s 7-term mayor isn’t really a true conservative. He just plays one on TV. On their editorial page this morning, the Observer opined:

The USA Today wrote about a subject I have tackled in depth here on a number of occasions, and that is Barack Obama’s penchant for grossly misleading people about his ties to lobbyists and special interests. They mention ads he is running in PA. He is running similar ads here in NC:
Flair, known as “The Nature Boy” in wrestling circles, retired two weeks ago from the world of professional wrestling after a career that spanned nearly four decades. He wasn’t born in North Carolina but has lived in Charlotte for most of his life, and had a huge fan following.
FYI, Republican candidate for NC governor Fred Smith is currently holding a series of rallies this month to give voters an opportunity to get to know who he is and where he stands on the issues. Appearing at these rallies will be country music singer and Fred Smith supporter Lee Greenwood, who will sing several of his hits, including his signature song “God Bless the USA.”
