The UK Telegraph thinks so:

Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House.

Two members of Mr Gore’s staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000 say they have been approached to see if they would be available to work with him again.

Mr Gore, President Bill Clinton’s deputy, has said he wants to concentrate on publicising the need to combat climate change, a case made in his film, An Inconvenient Truth, which won him an Oscar this year.

But, aware that he may step into the wide open race for the White House, former strategists are sounding out a shadow team that could run his campaign at short notice. In approaching former campaign staff, including political strategists and communications officials, they are making clear they are not acting on formal instructions from Mr Gore, 59, but have not been asked to stop.

His denials of interest in the presidency have been couched in terms of “no plans” or “no intention” - politically ambiguous language that does not rule out a run.

One of his former campaign team said: “I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast.

“He hasn’t asked them to do this, but nor has he told them not to.”

Hmmm. This sounds super-vague, and not much like Gore himself is doing any of the organizing of ‘the team’, and the bit about “Gore hasn’t asked them to stop” doesn’t indicate to me what Gore’s thoughts are one way or the other, but knowing Gore and his massive ego, not to mention the fact that he’s popular with the left, who still believe the 2000 elections were ’stolen’ from him and who also think he’s a god on the issue of ‘global warming’, I wouldn’t put it past him to put a bug or two in someone’s ear at some point about the possibility of making another go for the presidency.

I would actually enjoy it if he threw his hat in the ring, as it would be fun to watch he and Hillary battle it out in trying to distinguish themselves, while Obama sat on the sidelines hoping they both knocked each other out (metaphorically speaking, of course). Just how long would it take before we witnessed Gore lose his cool like he did with the President during his debates (remember the sighs?) and like he’s done at speeches like the one he gave in 2004, where he accused the administration of sending out “digital Brown Shirts who work to pressure reporters and their editors for undermining support for our troops”?

I think his campaign would go down in flames … and quick, because he can’t seem to hold his temper in check for too long.

Don’t question me. I am The Goracle!

Update: Gore’s complained recently about the media supposedly being ‘too balanced’ on reporting related to ‘global warming.’ Rich Noyes at Newsbusters puts that claim to bed here in a post titled: Study: ABC, CBS and NBC Morning Shows Join Al Gore’s Climate Crusade.

Many Democrats worry that none of their candidates really has what it takes to win the Presidency. Hillary Clinton has frighteningly high negative numbers –a lot of peoplewould never vote for her under any circumstances. Barack Obama, while having all

  1. Considering how the Democrats “support” the troops, and the fact we’re in a hot war, can you imagine the kind of ads against him that would appear pointing out the fact that he actively had absentee ballots from the military overseas thrown out in 2000 due to a technicality related to the APO system and postmarks? He is damaged goods, but don’t expect the MSM and other liberals to even remotely play this straight. After all, he wuz robbed, robbed I tell ya!8-|

  2. To add, they’d probably spin disenfranchising the military vote this way:

The military is made up of kids and lowly educated losers, and seeing how they voted for Bush in the majority, his disenfranchising of them was in their own best interest, he knew what was best for them. As it was, he lost, err, had the election stolen, and Bush got the military into an illegal war, so his disenfranchisement of the military vote was actually his taking care of them and “supporting” them by trying to keep them from making a mistake and voting in someone who’d send them to war.

    Yeah, that’s the ticket!:o
