Just got back from an Edwards event in San Francisco. He threw out a lot of red meat — in particular savaging the big oil, drug, and insurance companies — and these deep blue Americans loved every minute of it.
Edwards is awesome on the stump. He knows how to work a crowd into a lather. Today’s event, in a hot, dark SoMa night club was packed to the gills, and you’d have thought it was Bono up on that stage. People were that into it. [Gag! --ST]
The Frisco crowd especially reveled in — and clapped in time to — the Aquarius throwback “Hair” video.
But Edwards saved his biggest bomb for the mini presser afterward, where he responded to Giuliani’s jibe that he and Obama and Hillary, “do not understand a capitalistic economy.”
“What Giuliani is, is George Bush on steroids.” Edwards said. “Giuliani, Romney and the rest of the Republicans running for the nomination are going to give the country four more years of crony capitalism, which is exactly what we have now. We have insurance companies and drug companies and oil companies running this government. They need to be stopped. And Giuliani just wants to empower them.”
Let’s have some fun with this.
I think John Edwards is John Kerry with good hair.

Ahhh, but that’s just it: John Edwards does understand capitalism — and has personally profitted from it greatly. Our beautiful blogmistress had an article just a few days ago noting how Mr Edwards is invested in the things he campaigns against!
Capitalism = the people choosing who gets what resources.
Any other entity choosing who gets what resources would have Edwards divy up his estate and give it to homeless people right?
Communism is the diving up of all resources equally to all the people – therefore there is no incentive or reward for risk taking and having good ideas and working harder than the neighbor. There is no personal responsibility unless imposed on you by the government.
Socialism is the government choosing who gets what resources with many of the same consequences as communism.
We are a nation of laws, with protections (always under refinement) and the reason WHY we are as prosperous as we are is because of capitalism. There are other countries in this world who enjoy capitalism too and are growing at remarkable rates. It simply is ignorance (willful) at it’s finest for somebody at Edwards age to know so little about economies and which one provides for it’s people the best.
Taxes are levied to provide more than a safety net in this country. We have program after program for health, food, education, veterans, etc. It is right that we are a generous nation but what is his specific plans? To raise tax rates higher with negative effects on the economy?
Count me as one who will NOT vote for Edwards…
I think Edwards is Katie Couric with hairy legs….though he may shave them, I am not sure.
