… further solidifying the prize’s complete worthlessness.

Update I: And the speculation intensifies: Will he run for president (h/t: ST reader Karl)? Read more on that here and here.

Read tons more blogger reax via Memeorandum.

Here’s the official announcement:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 is to be shared, in two equal parts, between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.

Indications of changes in the earth’s future climate must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and with the precautionary principle uppermost in our minds. Extensive climate changes may alter and threaten the living conditions of much of mankind. They may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth’s resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world’s most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states.

Through the scientific reports it has issued over the past two decades, the IPCC has created an ever-broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming. Thousands of scientists and officials from over one hundred countries have collaborated to achieve greater certainty as to the scale of the warming. Whereas in the 1980s global warming seemed to be merely an interesting hypothesis, the 1990s produced firmer evidence in its support. In the last few years, the connections have become even clearer and the consequences still more apparent.

Al Gore has for a long time been one of the world’s leading environmentalist politicians. He became aware at an early stage of the climatic challenges the world is facing. His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change. He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.

By awarding the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 to the IPCC and Al Gore, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is seeking to contribute to a sharper focus on the processes and decisions that appear to be necessary to protect the world’s future climate, and thereby to reduce the threat to the security of mankind. Action is necessary now, before climate change moves beyond man’s control.

  2. No Surprise: Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize For lying about Global Warming

As predicted by me since earlier this year, Al won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in scaring the hell out of people about Global Warming while lining his pockets selling useless carbon credits.

That’s the reality of what happened, like it or …

  3. - Good post ST…..But I think it would be more accurate to refer to it from now on as the Nobel Peacenik prize.

Talk about pointless and unimpressive. There is good news tho, the Gorebot’s head is so large he can now travel cross country due if he can find the right air current. - Lorica

  6. Ya’ll would laugh if you saw the number of emails and attempted comments I’ve rec’d calling “right wingers” who are criticial of Gore’s win “wingnuts,” and some of those same emails and comments also have tried to declare Gore’s win as the equivalent to the “debate” over “man made” global warming being “over.” It’s kinda like saying Arafat’s Nobel Peace prize win meant the debate over the war between Israel and the Palestinians was over, and Arafat “won.”

As they say, stupid is as stupid does, and the Gore cultists are the epitome of stupid :>

  7. As they say, stupid is as stupid does, and the Gore cultists are the epitome of stupid

Quite so, ST. And nothing is more stupid than awarding a Peace prize to somebody who is working on environmental issues. Anyhow: Were the scientists to come up with a “silver bullet” to counteract global warming, would that improve the cause of world peace in any way?

    Hey, I’m just asking.

  9. The Czech president said it best when he wondered what in the world global warming had to do with world peace. Last night, I wondered myself: why does manbearpig’s causing mass hysteria over something that’s not happening (man-created global warming) qualify for a peace prize?

The terrorist Arafat gets the prize, the meddling terrorist/dictator-loving Carter gets the prize, and now the hysteria-formenting Gore gets the prize. The “peace” prize jumped the shark a long time ago. Are we sure this wasn’t some cruel joke on the part of Alfred Nobel?

  10. Hey Big Mo, cut the Nobel Committee some slack here, it was a damned tough year to have to make such a decision. I mean, in addition to the Goracle, there were so many other deserving and qualified candidates, like Kim Jong Il, Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmedinijad, Moqtada Sadr, etc. A tough crowd to pick from eh? :-"

  11. Indeed, Severian!

Why, they could have very easily given it to THIS man-cuses global warming alarmist, who said in September:

“[T]he life of all mankind is in danger because of global warming resulting to a large degree from the emissions of the factories of the major corporations; yet despite that, the representative of these corporations in the White House insists on not observing the Kyoto accord, with the knowledge that the statistics speak of the death and displacement of millions of human beings because of global warming, especially in Africa.”

  14. My, my, Sister. It seems that every time I check back in with you, you’ve lost still more ground to your nemesis, Al Gore. It must gall you that not only did his film win an Oscar, but now, both he and the IPCC have won the Nobel Peace Prize. And if that weren’t enough, now even President Bush has accepted the basic concept of man-made global warming. Apparently you and your motley band of lackeys aren’t making much of an impact on this issue. You’ll have to try sulking even more, and Severian will have to blow even harder, but you know what? You just don’t seem to have a winning formula, and that’s about all there is to it.

Are you still forced to block liberal posters from commenting on your site, out of some apparent fear of open and honest discourse? Why don’t you go pick a fight with some twelve-year-old, like the classless, fourth-rate hack that you are. Al Gore will enjoy his accolades, most likely not even knowing that you exist.

    Comment by Bob @ 10/13/2007 - 2:20 am

  15. Well bob, you can keep on believing what you want, and the usual suspects, the pro-big/world government socialists and their political and media lackies will keep shrieking that all this is settled in loud voices. And gullible fools like you will still be salivating over the prospect of impending doom like some demented ghoul. But, as all this unravels, realize it’s the death rattle of this entire field. Not a week goes by without the “consensus” and the “science” of global warming being undercut and proven more and more wrong, from the basics of how temperatures are measured to the increasing irrelevance of CO2 to warming and the non-existence of the positive feedback loops that the chicken little warmers rely on.

So, you can take all the pride you want from the fact that the Nobel committee and others are increasingly signing on to a ship that’s sinking, if you’re credulous enough to believe one lie, you’re likely to sign on for the whole enchilada.

Nice to see your obsessive qualities are unabated, you still can’t just accept your lumps and go away, you have to obsess over sites like this, just like every other liberal twit we’ve seen come and go. ;)

  16. BTW bob, you may have found an IP that’s not blocked (probably logging on from the computer at the library nearest the homeless shelter but I digress) but I’m betting your attitude gets you bounced again. You still demonstrate the level of maturity and honesty of a demented 5 year old.

  18. Bob’s obsession with this blog is quite bizarre, isn’t it, Sev?

I do wonder about the mentality of people like Bob who continue to try and visit places where they’ve been told they’re not welcomed. I generally don’t go where it’s obvious I’m not wanted, but Bob’s tendency to do just the opposite speaks alot towards some desperate need for attention.

I also wonder if he does this sort of thing in real life - go where he’s not wanted? It’s kinda creepy, actually.

No doubt he’ll try to post here again from wherever he can snag a public computer to log on to, but I’ve just made it more difficult for him to be successful in getting his comments to actually show up.

  19. It is a farce, and though bob may believe fully in what al gore is shoveling, his ‘movie’ was inaccurate to say the least.

He is nothing short of a propagandist who is making money off his propaganda he is shoveling.

The nobel peace rize is suppose to be for those who make a great contribution to improving mankind.

What has he improved besides his ego and his bank account?

The movie he made was essentially an al gore lecture, and was filled with innacuracies, and half-truths.

So he was given an oscar in the doumentary category for a documentary that was innacurate - I think he should be giving his award back. Doumentaries are suppose to be truthful.

He was given a peace prize for improving mankind? What has he done to improve mankind? Make a movie?

Where is the benefit to mankind?

    Compare:

    Mother Thereasa vs Al Gore

Who has done more for mankind?
As far as I can tell, gore has done nothing that improves the quality of life for mankind.

If making a movie that has innaccureacies and half-truths is all it takes to get a nobel peace prize, then I expect michael moore is up for the next one and then Decaprio for the 11th hour, and Clooney for goodnight and goodluck….

Nobel Peace Prize has become nothing more than a tarnished joke now.

If you don’t think so, then tell me, what has al gore done to improve mankind?

Look thru the will of Alfred Nobel, in deciding for the prize:

“The whole of my remaining realizable estate shall be dealt with in the following way: the capital, invested in safe securities by my executors, shall constitute a fund, the interest on which shall be annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind. The said interest shall be divided into five equal parts, which shall be apportioned as follows: one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery or invention within the field of physics; one part to the person who shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement; one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine; one part to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work of an idealistic tendency; and one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. The prizes for physics and chemistry shall be awarded by the Swedish Academy of Sciences; that for physiological or medical works by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm; that for literature by the Academy in Stockholm; and that for champions of peace by a committee of five persons to be elected by the Norwegian Storting. It is my express wish that in awarding the prizes no consideration whatever shall be given to the nationality of the candidates, but that the most worthy shall receive the prize, whether he be a Scandinavian or not.”

Do you really believe he is the most worthy in all the world to receive such a prize based on what Nobel’s specifications were for it?

    Comment by sanity @ 10/13/2007 - 9:49 am

  20. One humorous aspect of this is that it has to have Bill Clinton going blind with jealousy. He desperately wants a Nobel prize, to the point where in 2000 he had his White House aides actively push for his nomination and selection. Picture a fat Arnold Horshack with his pants around his ankles waving his hand in the air and yelling “OOOH! OOOH! PICK ME! PICK MEEEEE!” and you’ve got the idea.

So now his slow-witted assistant, the guy who didn’t even recognize a picture of George Washington when he saw it on a tour of Monticello, get the award Billy-boy’s been campaigning for. Gotta be driving him nuts. =))

  22. It seems that every time I check back in with you, you’ve lost still more ground to your nemesis, Al Gore.

Gosh, with every mainstream media outlet whoring itself to the self proclaimed prophet, I can’t imagine why he’s gotten such wonderful publicity.

It must gall you that not only did his film win an Oscar, but now, both he and the IPCC have won the Nobel Peace Prize.

In case you haven’t noticed, Bob, everyone hear is having quite a good laugh out of it. Gore is a joke and with each passing day more and more people, as well as scientists, are realizing it. But don’t question him, Bob, don’t ever question him, just continue following along like a sheep and berating anyone who doesn’t agree with you. Very mature.

You’ll have to try sulking even more, and Severian will have to blow even harder

Again, it’s LAUGHING, not sulking, genius. As far as blowing, it sounds like you’ve been doing alot of blowing for Al. I guess that’s better than to Al. But then again, we don’t know you very well.

Are you still forced to block liberal posters from commenting on your site, out of some apparent fear of open and honest discourse?

As soon as a liberal poster who has some open and honest discourse shows up, I’m sure they will not be blocked. However, as evidence by your childish and immature rant, we haven’t had one yet.

Why don’t you go pick a fight with some twelve-year-old, like the classless, fourth-rate hack that you are. Al Gore will enjoy his accolades, most likely not even knowing that you exist.

Thanks for proving my previous post. Again with the media whoring itself in a blind, cult like, daze, I’m sure Al’s accolades are nowhere near being done. I just revel in the fact that Al refuses to debate anyone who has evidence contrary to his propaganda. That’s all I need to know about Al.

However, don’t let this dissuade you from praying to the prophet at his altar of himself. Without you, Al would have no following, hence, no power. Be proud of what you have accomplished, little guy.
