First it was renaming schools, then naming kids
… and now, we have our first “Barack Obama holiday“:
MARION, Ala. (AP) – A small central Alabama county whose mainly black residents gave Barack Obama more than 70 percent of the vote on Election Day has created an annual holiday in honor of the president-elect.
The Perry County Commission voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” County offices will close and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday.
The sponsoring commissioner, Albert Turner Jr., said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect’s victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.
The majority of the county’s 12,000 residents are black.
The county commission’s three black members and one of its two white members voted for the resolution.
Commissioner Brett Harrison said Wednesday he voted against the resolution because of the holiday costs to the county, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. He said closing the courthouse would also idle some state employees.
“I’m a Democrat, but just in these financial times, it’s not using the county’s money wisely,” Harrison told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday. “The recognition is certainly well-founded.”
Doesn’t he know that Obama’s win was “God’s will” (whereas a McCain win would not have been, I guess)? Why, opposition to the creation of an Obama holiday is tantamount to a sacrilege! Not to mention the fact that it is racist …

Is it just me or has it been customary to honor historic events posthumously such as, oh, I don’t know, Martin Luther King, Jr Day?
I find the quote on the flyer highly ironic…isn’t that statement the same kind of statement that libs bash Bush for?
YES! Exactly, the liberal illuminati did bash bush for just about the exact same statement but what they learned is that it won him the election. So now Obama is using it! God ends up just being another card that people play when they are in the political game! I wonder if Obama really has any faith at all. I guess we might see.
And as far as the holiday goes. You can’t compare this to ML King day. That’s not fair. Obama hasn’t earned anything, especially a holiday yet. MLK died for millions of people to be able to experience fullness of life. He deserves more then a holiday.
I actually take offense at the statement on the card. If he had any sort of faith his prayers would create action. I knew a man whose Great Aunt had a stroke at 102 years of age. For the rest of her life all she could do was sit in her rocking chair and pray. 7 years later, as she neared the end of her life, my friend who is a Luthern pastor asked her why she thought the Lord let her live so long. Her answer was an amazing testimony of God’s grace. She told him that for 7 years she pondered that very question. Crying out to the Lord, asking him to take her home. Until one day the Lord led her to the realization that for 7 years she had been praying neices and nephews and grandchildren and great grandchildren into the Kingdom. That at the end of her life over 95% of her extended family were Christians and many were serving the Lord in some capacity. That she had prayed 6th and 7th cousins into the Kingdom. But yet Barack wants me to believe that prayer is trivial compared to action. Like so many he has that in reverse. Pray is pivitol to actions. “Except the Lord watches over the city, the Watchman walkth in vain.” The long decline of this country all began when they took prayer out of the schools. – Lorica
