Just insane – but not surprising – how far the Obama administration’s favorite news network is going to defend The Chosen One. Martin Bashir practically had a meltdown yesterday when discussing the IRS scandal and how, in his view, the complaints leveled by the GOP on the administration about it equate to “racist” GOP strategies of old. NRO’s Charles W.C. Cooke has a brief recap:
“Republicans are using [the IRS scandal] as their latest weapon in the war against the black man in the White House,” he suggested. ”IRS” is the new “N****r.” Bashir gave a nod to the late Republican strategist Lee Atwater, to whom he attributed the subtle strategy.
And guess what? Bashir engaged in the classic MSDNC strategy of selectively editing quotes, which Mediate notes here in a post about how Bashir “selectively edited Atwater’s remarks in order to make them appear more sinister than they really were.” SHOCKING!
Newsbusters’ Noel Sheppard expanded on Bashir’s “argument”, recapping how he served himself his own pitch and then tried to hit it out of the ballpark – all the while engaging in some curiously familiar personal attacks against Chairman Issa (bolded emphasis added by me):
After playing a clip of Mitt Romney making a joke about his birth certificate, Bashir said, “That was the moment that proved that the rhetoric of racist insults and slanderous attacks on the President had moved from the lunatic fringe to the very center of presidential politics.”
Bashir then pointed to a number of books about the president from conservatives including David Limbaugh and Dinesh D’Souza.
“All of these books played an important role in preparing the groundwork that eventually allowed a presidential candidate to make a racist comment, in front of the cameras, without any fear of contradiction,” said Bashir.
“And now,” he continued, “the IRS is being used in exactly the same way as they tried to use the President’s birth certificate.”
“You see, for Republicans like Darrell Issa – who knows something about arson – the IRS now stands for something inflammatory. Those three letters are now on fire with political corruption and malfeasance burning hot just like that suspicious fire that engulfed Mr. Issa’s warehouse back in 1982. And, despite the complete lack of any evidence linking the President to the targeting of Tea Party groups, Republicans are using it as their latest weapon in the war against the black man in the White House.”
Note how Bashir brings up the same types of cheap personal attacks against Issa that – shock – Obama senior advisor David Plouffe did just a couple of days ago. Could there be coordination? I’d be shocked if the honest answer was “no.” The auto theft charges (from 1972) were dismissed and no one was ever charged in the arson investigation (21 years ago) – IOW, they have nothing concrete to hold over Issa’s head, but they think by flinging baseless poo (and decades old at that) on the wall regarding the Chairman that it will deflect take attention off the very real scandal regarding the deliberate IRS targeting of Tea Party groups.
It’s not just raaaacist to criticize him and his administration anymore, but if you do you better make sure your OWN house is squeaky clean or they’ll try to use anything – no matter how petty, no matter how irrelevant, no matter how meritless, no matter how far back – to try and discredit you in desperate attempts to take heat off this administration and its various scandals – including the IRS, Benghazi, and Fast and Furious.
We have met the enemy, ladies and gentlemen, and it is our very own federal government and its allies in the press who are busy falling on their swords for the empty-suit celebrity politician they helped usher into the White House both in 2008 and 2012. The press, once upon a time, was charged with holding government accountable. Now, many of them view their role as covering for the very type of corruption they used to be hungry to expose. And they do this all now because there is a Democrat in the White House who they view as our nation’s savior. Sick, sick, sick.
