As The Usual Suspects continue to weigh in with their screams of outrage, a more serious discussions on Obama’s remarks have been going on at places like NRO’s Corner, where several of the writers there are urging the McCain campaign to move on from this controversy and stop routinely treating Gov. Palin like she’s a helpless victim.
Senator Obama and his campaign’s spokesman and many surrogates have continued to make misleading – and in some cases fabricated – claims about Gov. Sarah Palin’s record on the Bridge to Nowhere. Using the “for it before she was against it” theme that ended up hurting Sen. Kerry in the 2004 elections, they say she was for it before it was popular to be against it. Not only is this a distortion of her position, but as McCain supporter and staunch conservative Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) writes in the WSJ today, this is a “bridge” that Obama and Biden really should know better than to try and cross:
When last we left you, they were bogusly claiming that Gov. Palin “slashed” funding for teen moms earlier this year via line-item veto. That story was debunked hours after the WaPo first reported it. To my knowledge, they still have not issued a correction.
This is a speech that was made before Rudy’s speech last Wednesday night that didn’t get much attention, primarily because Gov. Lingle is not only not well-known nationally in comparison to Rudy and (now) Gov. Palin, but also because of the fact that Lingle is known as one of those “RINO” type Republicans who carries the banner but then turns around and supports things like Hawaii’s secession from the US.
