The latest “we don’t wanna hear that war critics are changing their tunes on Iraq” denialist? None other than the far left’s favorite selective fact quoter, sock puppet, strawman creator Glenn Greenwald.
To repeat something I asked in my prior post on this issue: It’s almost as if they’re wishing things weren’t turning around in Iraq, doesn’t it?

Greenwald thoroughly decimates the credibility of the two “liberal scholars” and “war critics” that the entire right wing has been frantically clinging to. He shows that the entire selectively guided tour these two took was one long photo-op by the U.S. military, that every person they talked to was hand-picked by their tour guides, that their credibility will be harmed if the surge fails, and that they passed optimistic judgment on neighborhoods where they’d only spent a couple of hours.
All you can come back with is, “those lousy liberals must want us to lose.” No, we don’t want to lose in Iraq. We simply understand that Iraq was lost long ago, and the sooner we get out of there the sooner we’ll stop throwing lives and treasure down a vast, hungry pit.
Calling O’Hanlon and Pollack “war critics” is a mark of pure desperation by the pro-war crowd, as is calling their stint as stenographers for the military “research”.

Bryce,
Hanging your hat on a known liar like Greenwald makes you look like one of Greenwald’s sock puppets. Are you?

Yeah, Glenn “Lambchop” Greenwald.

Here are that facts of the matter- if Patreus comes back with a realistic yet positive report regarding Iraq, the Democrats are screwed for the time being. If it continues through the elections, the Democrats will lose the Presidency and will have screwed the pooch entirely.
This is a stark reality for partizans like Greenwald and Bryce and they will present the reality of the situation as grimly as possible in order for the Dem’s bid to power to be sucessful.
Of course, the opposite is true for the Republicans.
I see no reason to believe the Op Ed to be false at all certainly because by definition it can’t be false. I also see no reason to disbelieve what was written.
To the point, I do not believe that most liberals want us to lose the GWOT of which Iraq is part of, as most liberals are everyday folks. I don’t think they believe the war to be unwinnable either, but are frustrated with the lack of progress made. Most of us in the middle (which includes both moderate liberals and conservatives which consist of the VAST majorities of your parties) wants us to make progress and win this war.

I haven’t dropped by STs site for a while. I usually find it interesting but am surprised to see such a lame posting here. Bryce is right on. This is the best you can do ST? Assign the typical adjectives to someone with opposing view points and offer up (again apparently) the lame suggestion that they want us to lose?
Trying convincing us why anything Greenwald wrote in this post isn’t factual. Give us a counter-point. Anything.
Ted kids himself thinking that A)Patreus will be the one actually delivering the assessment in Sep and B) that his assessment is going to have that much impact on the next election.

tom, all I have to do is see how the usual suspects react when war critics start changing their tunes on whether or not the war in Iraq is winnable for me to know that my assertions about those people and how they don’t want us to win are are dead on.
Thanks for proving my point.
Oh, and save the BS about you used to come here and finding what I have had to say “interesting” - you never have, and in fact have always been critical and cynical of things I’ve written in the past, so you aren’t fooling anyone by pretending to be disappointed now. Talk about lame. The only way you’d be happy with me is if morphed into a Daily Kos diarist, and I can assure you with certainty (just to cement your disappointment) that that is never going to happen.
