This is absolutely appalling:

In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, who will jointly oversee security during the president’s two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against Iran for its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit for safety reasons related to ongoing construction there.

“There has been some interest expressed in his visiting the area,” Mr. Kelly said. “It’s something that we are prepared to handle if in fact it does happen.”

Mr. Kelly said that Mr. Ahmadinejad had not indicated why he wants to visit the site of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Oh I think we know why.

File this under “What the hell are they thinking??!” Not only would it be insulting to the memories of the 9-11 victims who were murdered by Islamofascist thugs like Ahmadinejad, but it would be a slap in the face to our military who have to battle terrorists in Iraq who are being armed, in part, by the Iranians. Iran has issued threats to this country. Iran has also made it clear that they would like to see our strong ally Israel “wiped off the map.” Iran and Hamas are tag team terror partners. Not only that, but the US has made it clear that they consider Iran the world’s “primary state sponsor of terrorism.” Ahmadinejad shouldn’t be allowed to step one foot on our soil, let alone Ground Zero.

Contact the WH, and your representatives in the House and Senate, and put the pressure on to stop this outrage from taking place.

Hat tip: Stop The ACLU

Update I: ST reader GWR provided this link in the comments:

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — UPDATE: NYPD is rejecting the request from the President of Iran to visit Ground Zero.

NYPD is citing security reasons for the reason of rejecting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s request to visit the old World Trade Center.

STATEMENT FROM NYPD:
A request earlier this month to permit a visit by Iranian President Ahmadinejad to Ground Zero during the United Nations General Assembly was rejected in a meeting which included NYPD, Secret Service, and Port Authority officials. The site is closed to visitors because of construction there. That was the only request. Requests for the Iranian president to visit the immediate area would also be opposed by the NYPD on security grounds.

As GWR said in his comment, the “security grounds” is likely the “official” reason they rejected the request, but unofficially, I’m sure they were mad as hell at the thought of escorting Ahmeanie to Ground Zero.

Update II: (Via MM): Columbia U will host Ahmadinejad on Monday. You may remember that Columbia U. invited Ahmeanie to speak there last September during his previous visit to the United Nations. The controversy over that led Columbia to withdraw the invitation.

But then, so is allowing him to enter the United States, even to visit the UN council. First, here’s what was reported yesterday (via Melanie Phillips), and Mitt Romney summed it up correctly about the monster:

  1. It’s outrage enough that this terrorist slug is allowed into the country, but this goes beyond appalling. I guess he wants the opportunity to spit on the graves of several thousand infidels.

Maybe the Dem presidential candidates can come by and kiss his ring and promise, as Obama’s already done, never to take action against him no matter what he does.

If it were up to me, I wouldn’t even let him into the country. But if it were necessary, I’d have him treated exactly the same way he treated our embassy hostages in 1979-1980. Except for the time he appears before the UN, he would be held confined to a single shabby room (no 5-star NY hotels for him), and before he could leave it he would be blindfolded and escorted by armed guards. That would go for him and his entire entourage.

  2. I too am outraged by such actions.

    What are they thinking?!?!?

Isn’t Iran one of the “axis of evil”?

Isn’t Iran a known major terrorist sponsor and trainer?

    Wasn’t terrorist responsible for 9-11?

    This is beyond unthinkable.

The only reason I would support this is if they BURY him up to his neck in the rubble and leave him there for everyone to spit on.

All this will do is make for good propaganda for him when he gets back and gleefully releases publically about how happy he was seeing the destruction of America first hand.

    Absolutely disgusting.

  4. Bloomberg should have simply said, “No, it isn’t feasible. So sorry.”

He’s a waste of flesh. But then so is Ahmadinejihad.

    What a stupid thing.

  6. Maybe we will get lucky though, and someone will put a bullet in his head.

Won’t change much, as his bosses would replace him pretty easily. But it might sens a message.

  7. UPDATE: NYPD rejects the request.

    Details are
    here
    .

The NYPD is citing security concerns, but I’d not be a bit surprised if they weren’t steaming over the idea of escorting an islamofascist who wanted to dance on the graves of so many of their brother officers.

  10. Gosh, what kind of a world do we live in when the U.S. won’t let the leader of a country currently killing American soldiers lay a wreath at sacred ground.

    It’s Bush’s cowboy diplomacy!!!!!!

  11. - So Jamaha-ha-dinah-jacket wants to see New York. Ok. I’ll volunteer to take him deep in Central park about 2 in the morning, strip his ass down, hand him his wallet, and say adios.

Leave him behind a maple…He’ll be fine.

  14. Hi,

    Just some FYI:

    WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Friday

Freedom’s Watch President Bradley A. Blakeman released a statement and a copy of the print advertisement it has requested to be run in the Monday edition of the New York Times.

“Freedom’s Watch could not sit back and allow a terrorist to come to
America masquerading as a world leader. We have an obligation to warn the
world of the dangers of a nuclear Iran and to uncover the true intent, that
being, the destruction of the United States and the State of Israel.

Let’s be clear, Iran today kills American soldiers in Iraq and they will not stop
there,” said Bradley A. Blakeman, President of Freedom’s Watch.

The text of the advertisement follows:

    Ahmadinejad Is A Terrorist

Columbia University is wrong to give him a platform.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatens our nation and the
freedoms we value. He has supported attacks on our soldiers and our allies.
He should be treated as the terrorist that he is.

Yet, while Columbia gives a terrorist like Ahmadinejad a platform to
speak, they refuse to allow the ROTC on campus.

What has happened to this prestigious university?

People who support killing Americans are welcome. But the military that
    defends them is not.

Columbia should be ashamed of its actions.

Freedom’s Watch knows that America and the forces of freedom are right.
We know the threat of terrorism is real. And we know Democracy must
    prevail.

The terrorists and their appeasers are wrong.

“And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon
experience a world without the United States and Zionism.”
    — Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
