Former fashion consultant to Al Gore: Thanks to Gov. Palin, the end is near

Well, ok, that’s not exactly what Naomi Wolf said, but it’s pretty darn close. Here’s a sneak preview:

Please understand what you are looking at when you look at Sarah “Evita” Palin. You are looking at the designated muse of the coming American police state.

You have to understand how things work in a closing society in order to understand “Palin Power.” A gang or cabal seizes power, usually with an affable, weak figurehead at the fore. Then they will hold elections — but they will make sure that the election will be corrupted and that the next affable, weak figurehead is entirely in their control. Remember, Russia has Presidents; Russia holds elections. Dictators and gangs of thugs all over the world hold elections. It means nothing. When a cabal has seized power you can have elections and even presidents, but you have freedom.

I realized early on with horror what I was seeing in Governor Palin: the continuation of the Rove-Cheney cabal, but this time without restraints. I heard her echo Bush 2000 soundbites (“the heart of America is on display”) and realized Bush’s speechwriters were writing her — not McCain’s — speeches. I heard her tell George Bush’s lies — not McCain’s — to the American people, linking 9/11 to Iraq. I heard her make fun of Barack Obama for wanting to prevent the torture of prisoners — this is Rove-Cheney’s enthusiastic S and M, not McCain’s, who, though he shamefully colluded in the 2006 Military Tribunals Act, is also a former prisoner of war and wrote an eloquent Newsweek piece in 2005 opposing torture. I saw that she was even styled by the same skillful stylist (neutral lipstick, matte makeup, dark colors) who turned Katharine Harris from a mall rat into a stateswoman and who styles all the women in the Bush orbit –but who does not bother to style Cindy McCain.

Newsbuster’s P.J. Gladnick sums up my thoughts:

This sure reminds me of a certain Gary Larson cartoon. A patient is reclining on a psychiatrist’s couch. Sitting next to him is the shrink writing on his notepad: “Just plain NUTS!!!”

The exposure of the militant liberal feminist movement continues.

Compare Wolf’s alarmist rantings with what Bill Clinton had to say about Gov. Palin earlier today:

(CNN) — Bill Clinton said Monday the Democratic ticket should steer clear of launching personal attacks on Sarah Palin over her relatively thin resume, and instead acknowledge she was a “good choice” for the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket.

“Why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don’t we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket? And just say that she was a good choice for him and we disagree with them?” said Clinton, who faced repeated charges during the primary season he was overly negative toward Obama on the campaign trail.

Clinton’s comments appear to echo advice Karl Rove gave to Barack Obama in his regular Wall Street Journal column last week, when the former Bush strategist noted attacking the VP candidate has rarely proven to be an effective strategy.

In one of the former president’s few extended comments to date on Palin’s surprise VP candidacy, Clinton also told reporters in New York Monday he knows why the Alaska governor is attracting massive crowds on the campaign trail.

“I come from Arkansas, I get why she’s hot out there,” Clinton told reporters in New York, according to the Associated Press. “Why she’s doing well.”

“People look at her, and they say, ‘All those kids. Something that happens in everybody’s family I’m glad she loves her daughter and she’s not ashamed of her. Glad that girl’s going around with her boyfriend. Glad they’re going to get married,'” he said.

Referencing Palin’s 5-month old child who has Down Syndrome, Clinton also said voters will think, “I like that little Down syndrome kid — one of them lives down the street, they’re wonderful children.”

Is it just me, or do ya’ll think the Clintons really aren’t trying to do much to help Obama win the presidency? Hillary’s been on the campaign trail a bit for Obama, but you haven’t read about any fiery attacks she’s launched on Gov. Palin. In fact, by some accounts, her criticism – especially in contrast to how she went after Obama during the primaries – has been tepid. Methinks the Clintons are secretly hoping for an Obama loss so they can make a run for it again in 2012.
