Now, on to something more pleasant. In today’s NFL action, the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are on a surprising roll at 2-0, while my beloved Niners are… getting rolled at 0-2. š
After last week’s embarassing away game loss to the Giants, the Panthers are hoping for a little redemption today as they play their home opener against NFC South division rival Tampa Bay. Tampa, on the other hand, will hope to build on last week’s 17-14 home win over the Jake Delhomme-led Browns with one today against Delhomme’s former team.

About a month ago, I wrote a lengthy piece on how our “state-run” media here (liberal sister papers Charlotte Observer and Raleigh News & Observer) in North Carolina were trying to do their best to sabotage the work of the State Bureau of Investigation by falsely accusing and insinuating via a series of biased “investigations” – some based on an independent audit/review of the SBI’s serologyĀ unit that was much less “scathing” than reported – that the SBI routinely andĀ deliberately withholds lab evidence that could be favorable to the defense.Ā As a result of that misread independent review, the systemic efforts of both Observer papers, and the continued crusade by “innocence” groups here in NC to keep the unofficial death penalty moratorium in placeĀ using any means necessary, state legislators are now in full tilt boogie mode to “right” these “wrongs” viaĀ demands for a top downreview of all SBI labĀ unitsĀ and calls for a new accrediting agency for the SBI.
Update – 6:48 PM: Wasn’t a great day for the Panthers on multiple fronts. We lost to the Giants 31-18, our offense is still struggling, and QB Matt Moore was taken to the hospital after a hit late in the game. Hope he’ll be ok.
